Mercifully released from his longstanding suffering and surrounded by his loving family and the compassionate staff on March 27, 2006 at Salvation Army Isabel and Arthur Meighen Manor in Toronto. Survived by his truest Angel, his beloved wife Matina (née PRASSAS,) his daughter Eleni (David SMOLEN, Deposit, New York;) his oldest son, Tom (Toronto;) his son Jamie (Adele WEDER, Queen Charlotte, British Columbia;) his 2 granddaughters, Julia SAGE and Natalie ROSE and his extra-special son, Adam SHEIKH (Toronto.) Additionally, survived and blessed by his beloved mother-in-law, Loula PRASSAS (Toronto;) his two beautiful sisters-in-law, Koula O'BRIEN and Georgia PRASSAS (Toronto;) and his brother Jack (Saskatoon.) Jim now journeys to his beloved Angel daughter, Julia Caren, who opens her small wings to embrace him after all these years and to his beloved sister Kay (Dr. Katherine METRAKOS, Montreal) who predeceased him after her own valiant struggle. Special thanks to the fine staff at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and the expert care of Doctor Ron KEREN. We will miss his silly, fun-loving spirit and he will be pleased to know we are submitting his name to the Guinness Book of Records for the "longest goodbye." Anwar Sheikh was born on October 18, 1920 in Srinagar, Kashmir and died peacefully on May 13, 2006, in Lahore, Pakistan. "Beloved": daughter of Dilaram Begum (dec.) and Khan Sahib Sirajuddin Ahmed (dec.;) wife of M. Anwar SHEIKH (dec.;) mother of Haji Ghulam RASUL, Mahjabin WAZIRZADA, Shahid Anwar SHEIKH (dec.), Nazneen SHEIKH and Sheerin Anwer SHEIKH; grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and mentor. Gold-medalist undergraduate from Lahore College, Punjab University and graduate from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. She taught at Karachi University, and worked for the Planning Commission and Village Aid of the Government of Pakistan. Dilafroz was the recipient of many honours and awards. Her dearest wish was for peace and prosperity in Kashmir and the betterment of life for women. Jean SHEK, beloved wife of Professor Emeritus Ben-Z. SHEK, mother of Elliot and Ghitta (Wendy GOMEZ,) died on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Sunnybrook Hospital. Daughter of the late Doctor Henry ALDERWOOD and Ruby M. GANDIER, she is survived as well by her dear siblings: Kay PAGET, Hope STEWARD/STEWART/STUART, Ruth PERRY (Jack), Faith SUTHERLAND, and Philip ALDERWOOD (Helen.) Jean had a long and distinguished career in Social Work. She had a profound love of humanity in all its varieties and colours and a firm belief in social justice. Her funeral will take place at Bathurst Lawn Memorial Park (s. of Steeles, e. of Bathurst) at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday, May 14. A celebration of her life and a reception will follow at the Winchevsky Centre, 585 Cranbrooke Ave. (six blocks north of Lawrence, east of Bathurst). It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden, tragic loss of a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. Greg died suddenly as the result of a cycling accident on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. Greg was born on July 16, 1961 in Belleville, Ontario. Greg was proud to be an officer of the Ontario Provincial Police and, served in detachments in Belle River, Powassan, Essex, Rockland, Whitby, Killaloe, and most recently Caledon. He began his police career with the Toronto Police Service in 1981, and was an 18 year veteran of the Ontario Provincial Police. He loved being a policeman and was very proud to serve. He also loved fitness, especially cycling, swimming and running, and died doing something he loved. Loved and loving husband of Eleanor McMAHON, the love of his life; dear father of daughter Christy of Peterborough, Ontario. Beloved son of parents George and Jean STOBBART of Peterborough. Cherished brother of Cathy and her husband Randy JACKSON of Whitby. Predeceased by sister Jan. Eleanor's family, mother Marie, sisters Sue SHELDON (Hugh), Maureen McMAHON, Mary Margaret LAING (David), brothers John McMAHON (Lise,) and Ed McMAHON (Pat) will always cherish their memories of Greg's loving and generous spirit. Several nieces and nephews who were very special to Greg will miss their great fun-loving uncle and role model. Greg also leaves many colleagues and Friends with great stories and great times to remember him. He will be missed by his dog, Lola for whom he had great affection. He was truly one of a kind. Passed away in her 93rd year on Monday, October 30th, 2006, at Bridgepoint Health Centre. Audrey joins her late husband Ted, who predeceased her in June 1985. Loving mother of Teddene LONG and her husband Robert, Marsha ELY and her husband Alan. Grandmother of Bradley, and his wife Denise, Janelle and her husband Rob LONG, Carly ELY, Claudine and her husband Ryan ADLINGTON. Great-grandmother of Ainsley and Carson LONG. Audrey was a special lady, who enjoyed each day. She selflessly gave to those around her and always found the positives in her Friends and family. She had a wonderful life journey and we were all fortunate to share it with her. She will truly be missed as she was "the wind beneath our wings". As a teacher, Audrey often remarked "a hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of home I lived in, or the kind of car I drove. But, the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child". We seem to give them back to you, O God, You who gave them to us, Yet as you did not lose them in giving So do we not lose them by their return… And life is eternal and love is immortal and death is only a horizon and an horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight. Lift us up, strong son of God that we may see further; cleanse our eyes that we may see more clearly. Helen was born in Kitchener on December 26, 1913. A trained music teacher, she taught Kindergarten at the McKeough School in Chatham. She joined First St. Andrews United Church in 1940 after her marriage to Rudy, a long time member of the church with his family: brother Ken and parents Mr. Charles and Beatrice EBERHARD (STEELE.) Helen joined the Choir and served for over 50 years in the Alto section. Many volunteer interests included teaching in the Mission Band and Sunday School. She enjoyed Friends in Delta Row (later, the United Church Women) and Bi-Focals. Her civic volunteering included the Parkwood Hospital Auxiliary, Inner Wheel (Rotary Club of London), Garden Club, Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire and London Council of Women. On his 92nd birthday, October 29, 2006, Albert Bradley KILB passed away to join his loving wife Lorna of 65 years. Albert leaves 3 children (Loral, Brian and Brad), 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Albert's passions were traveling the world with Lorna, and mentoring the youth of our community. Albert's career began as a toolmaker where he honed the skills he shared as a teacher/administrator for 36 years. Albert taught at the Ontario and Newfoundland Colleges of Education, and the University of British Columbia. Albert accepted two International External Aid postings in Africa and Singapore. Albert consistently served London through the church, Boy Scouts, Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, and as Lieutenant-Governor with Kiwanis International. Peacefully at home on Wednesday September 27, 2006 Linda Margaret MOYES in her 66th year. Dearest Wife of John MOYES. Loving mother of Kenneth (Darlene) MOYES, Joanne (Doug) MUNRO, and Janice (Larry) VOLMER. Beloved grandmother of Andrew OLDHAM, Heather MUNRO, Tyler HEYWOOD, Brayden MOYES, and Ken REEVES. Great-grandmother of Cody REEVES. Sadly missed by siblings Audrey (Andy) SHELTON, John (Anna) COOK, Susan (Bob) WHITE/WHYTE. Predeceased by her parents Ella Jean and Bill COOK. SHELTON, Margaret (née SPIES) (1926-2006)
Margaret SHELTON passed away peacefully on Christmas Day at the St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is preceded by her husband, Michael in 1991 and survived by her son Robert, of Toronto. She was 80 years old. Margaret was born and raised in Vermillion Bay, Ontario. She married Michael in the early 1950s and they moved to Winnipeg shortly afterwards. Together, they established and ran a successful supermarket chain in Winnipeg. Margaret retired from the business in the late 1960s to raise her son. Her love and generosity, along with her curiosity of and interest in the world around us, have all been passed on to and are alive in her son, Robert. Funeral services will be private.
