Passed away at the Trillium Health Centre - Mississauga. son of the late Mary and Fred RHODES of Sarnia. Survived by Iva, his wife of 66 years, his daughter Pamela of New Zealand and daughter-in-law Carol ROLPH of Garden Hill, predeceased by his son Frederick. Grandfather to Jennifer RUSAW of Newcastle, Meredith SEABROOK of Yellowknife, Morgain HOLLINGHURST of Edmonton and Jalynn ANDERSEN of Vancouver and their families including seven great-grandchildren. Douglas was a graduate of McMaster University (Math, Physics, and Chemistry), Class of 1936, and was employed by Shell Canada, until his retirement, followed by the Ministry of the Environment, Province of Ontario. He maintained a life-long interest in learning and music and was proud that he participated in the first music festival of Lambton County. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday December 7, 2006 at 11 o'clock at Saint Peter's Erindale Anglican Church, 1745 Dundas St. W. Mississauga. Private interment Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia. Passed away at the Bluewater Health-Palliative Care on Friday, September 29, 2006 at 76 years. Beloved father of Debbie LONG and her three children Jennifer LEGER (Gilles,) Heather FINDLAY (Robb) and Daryl LONG all of Vancouver, British Columbia; Rhonda (Mike) and her two children Dennis KJELDSEN (Michelle) and Mandy KJELDSEN (Jonathan;) Linda MacGREGOR (George) and their two children Ian and Colin MacGREGOR; Doctor Kevin FAST (Deanna BELL- FAST) and their three sons Keenan, Dane and Bennett FAST. Also survived by G.G. children Alexcia, Ryan, Sarah and Onnika. He leaves behind one sister and three brothers Verna FARNAM (Bill) of Scquim, Washington, Alvin FAST (Nellie), Rev. John FAST (Kay), and Robert FAST (Lola) all of British Columbia. Victor was the youngest son of fourteen children and was predeceased by his parents Frank and Helena FAST, three sisters, Elizabeth, Helen and Mata, and six brothers Frank, Henry, Oscar, Dietrich, Arnold and Alfred all of western Canada. Victor was a retired officer of the Royal Canadian Navy, a member of St. Andrew's Church choir, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 and he had a great passion for golf, music and sailing, but his Grand Passion was for Betty Dee BLACK as he offered safety and love while on her walking expeditions over North America for the past twelve years. He is fondly remembered by her children Carl and Susan MITCHELL and Doctor Janet SEAL and their four sons Byron, Simon, Travis and Kurtis; Lori MITCHELL- McNALLY and her children Adam and Amber; Shari MITCHELL; Susan and Dan CORE and their children Ashley and Nicholas; Verba and Jerry BLACK and their daughter Breanne; and not to forget his good friend Sam McGee (Macaw Parrot). He will be sadly missed by all of us for he was a gentleman of the highest ilk. His life was an inspiration to all of us and his memory will be a benediction. A Memorial Visitation will take place at the Stewart Funeral Home, 254 George Street, Sarnia, Ontario (519-383-7121) from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday October 3, 2006. SEAMAN, Letha Mae (née PATTON) (1899-2006)
Letha Mae SEAMAN passed away peacefully at the Wentworth Manor on Monday October 9, 2006, at the age of 107 years. Letha was born on April 8, 1899, in Unadilla, Nebraska, then moved with her family to Truax, Saskatchewan at age thirteen. She was living in the Avonlea area when she met her husband to be, an American who came to assist in the harvest while Canada was fighting in the First World War. When the Americans entered the war, he returned and joined the U.S. expeditionary force. After the war he spent a period in the army of occupation in Germany. In January 1920, he returned to Canada and married Letha Mae. They lived in Rouleau, Saskatchewan, where their four children were born. In 1944 they moved to Saskatoon and then after a short period in New Westminster, moved to Calgary in 1949. During World War 2 Letha took it upon herself to knit and sew hundreds of articles for the armed services. She was an avid housekeeper, and to the envy of her neighbours, was a meticulous gardener. She resided at Wentworth Manor for the past ten years. Letha is survived by sons Daryl K, Byron J and Donald R. SEAMAN; as well as thirteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-nine years, Byron Luther SEAMAN in 1979; four sisters; one brother; and her daughter Dorothy HAMILTON in 2006. The family of the late Thomas VOKES express sincere thanks to Friends, relatives and family co-workers who have shown love, kindness and support during the illness and passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Our deepest gratitude to Dr. KUMAR and the wonderful nurses in the Critical Care Unit and step down and to nurse Shelley on 4th floor of G.B.H.S. for the love and care given to Tom. Heartfelt thanks to all who sent food to our homes, inquiries by phone, sent beautiful flowers, sympathy cards and for donations to Church, hospital and other charities in memory of Tom. Special thanks to Pastor Leslie SEARLES for many visits and prayers and for the kind and comforting words in the funeral service. Thanks to Larry and Robert who read eulogies of Grandpa's life, Lisa for her reading of the 23rd Psalm, Ashley who prepared the special music and to our ten grand_sons who acted as Pallbearers. The former Ena BREESE was the beloved wife of the late Donald WITHERSPOON. She was the loving mother of Marg FROMANGER (John) and Peter WITHERSPOON, mother-in-law to Judy WITHERSPOON. Survived by his nine grandchildren Tanya, Marcus and Thomas MATYAS; Thor, Brad and Adam HERVIEUX; Danielle, Nicole and Colette Suzanne GENDRON; and eleven nieces and nephews. SEARLES, Doctor Gerald Kennard (1925-2006)
Passed away peacefully at age 80 after a brief illness at Scarborough General Hospital on April 15 with his family around him. Born on June 1, 1925 in Toronto to Arnold and Rebecca SEARLES. Grew up in Barbados with his family, was a high achiever scholastically, amateur boxer and all-round athlete. Returned to Canada at 19, served as a gunner and signals operator in the Canadian Army (1944-45) and then graduated with B.A., B.Sc. and M.D. (U.of T., 1964). During this period he married and had five children. He first practised as a staff physician at the Native Hospital in Sioux Lookout, Ontario before going into family practice first in Schreiber, Ontario then in Scarborough, Ontario until his retirement in 2005. Survived by Thelma, his wife of 56 years, children Gerald (Neda), Keith (Christine), Marilyn, Lynda (George), Kenneth (Noel), daughter-in-law Karin and grandchildren Melanie, Danielle, Josh, Darnel, Devon, Tia, Renay and Cara. He also leaves his siblings Philippa, Edsworth (Kathleen), Ernesta, Cynthia, Enid (Cecil), numerous nieces and nephews and their respective spouses and children. Predeceased by his brothers Elden, Benson and Kenneth Leroy. Gerald was outspoken but always kind, compassionate and generous - a true humanitarian and animal lover. He was held in great affection by colleagues, staff and his patients, many of whom became his dearest Friends. Many thanks from the family to attending physician Doctor Howard CLASKEY and the Intensive Care Unit Staff at Scarborough General Hospital. Resting at the Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. East, Agincourt (east of Kennedy Rd.) Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service at Rosewood Church of the Nazarene, 647 Milner Ave. (east of Markham Rd.) on Friday at 11: 00 a.m. Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
