Mystery deepens
Police are still blocking roads around this Stanley Township
house, where they continued yesterday to probe the 'suspicious
death' of a Kitchener man. But they're saying little about the
case.
By Free Press Staff, Tues., June 27, 2006
The mystery continues surrounding the discovery of a Kitchener
man's body on a rural property just outside Bayfield.
Ontario Provincial Police said little new about the "suspicious
death" yesterday, except to identify the dead man as 42-year-old
Robert SCHNEIDER of 42 Moore Ave., Kitchener.
An autopsy is scheduled today in London.
Neighbours in Kitchener said police cars were parked outside
SCHNEIDER's home all day yesterday.
Police descended on the Bayfield-area site, in Huron County's
Stanley Township, after the body was discovered Sunday -- it's
believed a neighbour found it -- and remained there all day yesterday.
One area resident said the property, with a cottage-style house,
is owned by an absentee Londoner who rented it out weekly during
the summer.
The property is just a stone's throw from Bayfield, a popular
Lake Huron tourism village whose seasonal population spikes in
the summer.
Yesterday, the house at 75368 Bronson Line remained marked off
with police tape.

Freak hammock mishap killed man
By Free Press Staff, Thurs., June 29, 2006
A Kitchener man, whose body was found Sunday in a cottage near
Bayfield, died of a freak accident, provincial police say.
Bob SCHNEIDER, 54, had been using a hammock tied to a tree with
a rotten base when the trunk broke and the tree struck him in
the head, Ontario Provincial Police said.
SCHNEIDER, owner of a martial arts academy in Kitchener, managed
to get inside the cottage, where he died of his injuries, police
said.
At first, the Ontario Provincial Police were probing the death
as "suspicious."
But following an investigation and autopsy yesterday in London,
police concluded the death was accidental.
He died of blunt force to the head, police said.
