SAVAGE, Brian Colson
Died peacefully in his 55th year, on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Brian leaves his beloved wife, Mary Ann POULOS, and her parents, Vasiliki and Tasso POULOS. He also leaves his dearest Friends Denise HALSEY, Thomas SAMS, Leslie BERNARD, and James NOLAN. Brian devoted his last 4 years to the task of helping others. He developed a new and innovative G.E.D. program to help people complete their high school education, so often a barrier to a better life for the people we serve. But Brian's true legacy will live on in Scarborough Centre for Addiction Recovery and Employment Services - which he co-created with his wife to provide a safe haven, counselling, support and training to people dealing with life's challenges. It is Brian's strongest and final wish that his work through Centre for Addiction Recovery and Employment Services continues. Maurie JORRE DE SAINT_JORRE was born on April 20, 1956 in Vancouver, British Columbia, died on February 14, 2006 in Wakefield, Quebec and will be missed every day by his wife Susan BROWN and his children Adrian and Ariel. Maurie was predeceased by his parents Maurice and Dorothy and is survived by brother Philip (Lynn), sister Julie SAVARD, nephews Dominic SAVARD, Matthew BROWN, Nicholas JORRE DE SAINT_JORRE, aunts Ariel (Jack) MERNER, Jacqueline BOUCHARD and Elizabeth GRASSICK, cousins including Christie (Penny) SINCLAIRE and in-laws including mother-in-law Elizabeth BROWN. Maurie worked at the Privy Council Office with Canada's most talented and committed public servants and political staff and was so proud to have been allowed the privilege of contributing to the government of Canada. Maurie loved his family, Friends, cooking and entertaining, his garden in Chelsea, Quebec and baseball. Maurie's favourite pastimes were coaching Adrian's baseball team, which he did for many years, and driving all over Quebec from Mont Laurier to Fort Coulonge to Montreal to watch Adrian and Ariel play hockey, soccer and rugby. He had an incisive and irreverent wit, you were lucky not to get caught in the cross fire, counterbalanced by his enormous generosity and hospitality. Maurie was diagnosed with brain cancer in September, 2004, he fought his illness heroically and received outstanding and compassionate care from so many including neurosurgeon Dr. Lieu at Centre Hospitalier des Vallées de l'Outaouais, Gatineau, neurooncologist Dr. Fortin and nurse Marie Boudria at Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, all the palliative care staff at C.H.G.M., Wakefield and home care workers Karen and Ken of Casa Mia, Wakefield. The family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to all of Maurie's Friends and colleagues who visited, sent cards and gifts and supported us throughout Maurie's illness. In Sutton, on December 15, 2006 passed away Mr. Robert LAFLAMME at the age of 66 years. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Françoise LAFLAMME (née SAVARD) and his three children Paul (Manon SANTERRE), Marc (Chantal LORD) and Jean (Vanessa GERVAIS). He will also be missed by his grandchildren Jonathan, Alex, Mathieu, Alexandre, Marie-Catherine, Jean-Philippe, Clara and Maxime as well as by his in-laws Ronald, Hélène and Anik SAVARD (Daniel Samson, Frédérique and Tommy). He will also keep an eye from above on all the other members of his family and his numerous and very dear Friends. For all of us that have been blessed with his presence in our lives, his joyful spirit, his sense of humour, his devotion and his generosity will forever stay in our hearts. His funeral will be held with the ashes present on Saturday, January 6th, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex (1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, Québec (514) 279-6540). The family of the late William "Timber" McARTHUR would like to express our appreciation to all our relatives, Friends and neighbours for their expressions of kindness and condolences, food, floral tributes, mass cards and donations, after the passing of our dear father and grandfather. A very special thank you to the caregivers and staff at John Joseph Place for the care and compassion over the last 4 years that Dad resided with you. Thank you Dr. SAVARIA for all your care and medical advise over the years you have cared for Dad. To the staff at Breckenridge-Ashcroft, your guidance and compassion where second to none, again, you anticipated our every need and we thank you. To Father Steve LACROIX and Corey LAPOINTE, for the beautiful service and music and allowing the grandchildren to have their special musical tribute to their grandfather, thank you. A special thank you to the staff at Stone Tree for opening the doors to us for the wonderful reception after the funeral, and allowing us to celebrate Dad's life. The family of the late Pat MAILLOUX, wish to thank everyone who were so supportive during Pat's many years of illness and following her recent death. We wish to thank you for your numerous visits at home and in hospital, for the beautiful flowers, the food sent to our homes, the help we received at our homes, the cards received, the courtesies shown to us and in particular the memorial donations made in Pat's memory to our Oil Heritage District Community Centre and our C.E.E. Hospital Foundation. We are so fortunate to live in such a wonderful and supportive community. Special thanks to Pat's liver specialist, Doctor Cameron GHENT and her transplant surgeon, Doctor Bill WALL at University Hospital, who gave Pat an extra 10 years of good living following her many years of liver disease and transplant and Doctor Ian CHIN- YEE and the many other caregivers in the Chemo and Radiation department at the London Regional Cancer Centre and Victoria Hospital and the Sarnia-Lambton Community Care Access Centre who helped us at home along with V.H.A. Nursing and Victorian Order of Nurses Home Care for their excellent care over the last five months of Pat's life. Also, Dr. John BUTLER and Doctor Enoch DANIEL and the wonderful staff at Bluewater Health -- C.E.E. Site, your concern and care for Pat was beyond expectation and greatly appreciated. PREECE, Norman Brian
Norman died as he would have it, peacefully in his chair at his home, Hillholm. An accomplished administrator, he lived, and believed in, a rounded life dedicated to family and community. This was based on a personal commitment to lifelong learning, travelling, physical activity and church, particularly his beloved St. Andrew's Anglican Church. Educated at Worcester College, Oxford, he served with the Green Howards as a lieutenant in Nigeria. Norman emigrated to Canada with his wife, Rita, in 1958. He pursued a career in the steel business as President of Stanton Pipes (Canada) Limited. Norman and Rita welcomed Mark, Amanda and Claire and settled in Grimsby, enjoying and sharing their home and garden for 45 years, holding their 'parties on the lawn' for Friends and family including his extended Ridley family as well as for inner city students, creating memorable school outings. Norman attended Harvard in 1970 for an advanced executive management program. During his career, he served on the boards of Ipsco, Sysco and Burlington Steel. Norman was also Vice-Chair, SidbecNormines Inc. At 54, he changed course to other ventures, committing his considerable talents to advancing health care in the community. He accomplished this by being a member of the team that raised over $14 million to build the Hamilton General Hospital; he was asked to join the board of the Hamilton Civic Hospitals Foundation and chaired that board from 1989-1991; Subsequently, he became part of the Hamilton Civic Hospitals Board where he was instrumental in the merger of the ChedokeMcMaster Hospitals and the Hamilton Civic Hospitals. He then served with distinction as the Inaugural Chair of the merged hospitals corporation now known as Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation (1996-1998). He loved reading and sports. He achieved notable successes in track and field and in rugby on the combined Oxford-Cambridge Woodpecker team in his younger years. Committed to the power of spirit through recreational development, he took on leadership roles on the Advisory Board of the Young Men's Christian Association for over 40 years. His absolute favourite sport pastime was watching his grand_sons, Spencer and Thomas, playing hockey, soccer and running. Norman's pain at the loss of his beloved son, Mark, was never fully overcome. To honour his memory, he took up a new cause, the Mark Preece Family House, with vigour and the stubborn perseverance that was a common trait in everything he did. Over a 45 year span, he served in advisory and fund raising capacities with the Hamilton All-Star Jazz Band, the Hamilton Convention Centre, the Salvation Army, the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce. Much loved by his wife and companion of 49 years, Rita, she will miss his support and dry wit. Other saddened family members who will miss his special touch include daughters, Claire (Don SAVIN) and Amanda (John KNUBLEY,) and Lisa (Jacques TITTLEY.) Adored grandchildren that will live his legacy include Thomas and Spencer, Claire, Tamisha and Jack, and Henry, Nicholas and Edward. Brother, Barry, steadfast friend from Picton, North Yorkshire, and his family, will miss his caring calls and visits. The Friends and colleagues he leaves behind in Canada, England and Barbados at his much loved Pirate's Inn will remember him with humour and admiration. His family simply never will forget the true character he was and how he tried to live his life through leadership and learning.
