Sarnia man killed as sport utility vehicle hits ditch

Sarnia -- A 22-year-old man was killed early yesterday when the sport utility vehicle he was driving veered off the road and crashed into a ditch, police said.
Thomas ROBITAILLE, 22, of Westgrove Drive in Sarnia, was going north on Brigden Side Road near Michigan Avenue around 3 a.m. when his vehicle left the road and slammed into the water-filled ditch, police said.
ROBITAILLE was ejected from the vehicle.
A female passenger was treated at Bluewater Health and released, police said.

Retired professor of the University of Toronto (November 17, 1925), passed away in his home in Guelph surrounded by his loving family on April 6, 2006. Beloved husband of Gloria (née THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON,) dearest dad of Kathleen SINCLAIR (Robert) of Kenya, Christine KALLVING (Anders) of Sweden, Kevin (Theresa ROBITAILLE) of Gabriola Is., British Columbia, Michael of Toronto, Elizabeth (Carlo ADAMO) of Guelph and the late Stephen Christopher. A wonderful grandfather to Quentin and Christine SINCLAIR, Roland Riviere DENT, Kevin and Carina KALLVING, Cassielle and Janeva DENT, Owen and Stephen DUSOME, and dear brother of Dianne GEORGE of California. Ralph started his teaching career in the Psychology Department at Acadia University (1953 to 1959). He continued at the Agricultural College in Guelph where, with Norman High, he founded a Department of Communications. After two years at La Molina University in Lima, Peru (1966-1968), he was appointed to the National Parole Board (1968-1969) but he returned to teaching at the Faculty of Education, University of Toronto, as Professor of Educational Psychology. After his retirement he communicated with many Friends and relatives. The family expresses deep gratitude to Doctor Ellen SCHWANTZ, ComCare, Bayshore Home Health and Therapy Partners. A devoted, loving and jovial father to Rosalind (Pierre) COUTU, Tom (Sandy) KIMPEL, and Martha (John) OLTHUIS and a fantastic "poppa" to his grandchildren Chris, Adi, Jon, Jessica, Melissa, Tanner, Michael and Nicole and dear friend to Joan ROBLIN. He had a wide circle of Friends who were lucky to enjoy his quick wit and entertaining ways. Although he was an independent and active businessman who owned and operated his own veterinary pharmaceutical company (K-Vet) for most of his career, he was active in numerous other endeavors including a long tenure with the Canadian Figure Skating Association, Chairman of Conestoga College and many community associations. Never one to be bored, he thrived on family ski vacations, summers at the cottage, bridge clubs, interesting and distant travels and always dabbling in something. Peacefully, with loved-ones near, at Saint Michael's Hospital in Toronto on September 21, 2006, Isobel Ellen WILKINSON (née ALTHOUSE,) in her 79th year. Beloved wife of John Provost WILKINSON. Beloved mother to: Margaret Ann WILKINSON and husband Richard CROUCH (of London,) Elizabeth Ellen PHIPPS and husband Ken (of Saskatoon,) and John Bertie Althouse WILKINSON and wife Jane STUBBINGTON (of Toronto). She leaves grandchildren whom she loved dearly and of whom she was very proud: Meredith and George CROUCH, Emily and Heather KEVILL, and Connor and Katie WILKINSON. She also leaves her beloved sister-in-law, Ann ROBSON, and her family. Isobel had a long and fulfilled life, founded on her love for family, for Friends, for fun, and for educating herself and others. Isobel was a graduate of St. Clement's School. Her university degrees were from the University of Toronto's Trinity College, Faculty of Education and Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. She retired as Vice-Principal of the Lower School of Havergal College in 1993, where she had taught grade 6 for many years, always enjoyed helping young minds develop, and pioneered the introduction of computers into the classroom. She was always active in Forest Grove United Church where she held numerous positions including Christian education director, chair of the unified board, and Meals on Wheels volunteer. She was also a proud long-time member of the Canadian Federation of University Women-Leaside Club, and its 'Added Dividends' group. Isobel was shaped greatly by her parents whom she loved immensely, the late John George ALTHOUSE, former Director of Education for the Province of Ontario, and Mayme. She often spoke of them and of cherished memories of summers spent on Lake Temagami. Since retirement, John and Isobel fulfilled their goal of traveling to France, Central America, England, and Russia. However, Isobel was always most excited by the opportunity to spend time with John at 'Rudyard', their Muskoka cottage. Rainy days at Rudyard spent with a crossword puzzle, playing a friendly game of Scrabble (aided by her late mother-in-law's dictionary), or teaching George and Meredith to play bridge; and sunny days on a Segwun cruise, encouraging Connor and Katie as they learned to swim, or enjoying her favorite double-ended rowboat. Isobel's family thanks warmly those who assisted her so much throughout her stay at Saint Michael's Hospital's Intensive Care Unit. Friends may pay their respects at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. West, Toronto (2 stoplights west of Yonge St.) on Wednesday, September 27th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Forest Grove United Church, 43 Forest Grove Drive, Toronto (east of Bayview Ave., south of Finch Ave. E) on Thursday September 28th at 2 p.m. In remembrance, contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Lung Association or a charity of one's choice. 75, Halifax, Died Wednesday, October 25, 2006; peacefully at home. Born in Halifax, he was the youngest son of the late John P. MOORE and Annie Isabel MOORE (ROBSON.) John enjoyed his Friends and family, and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He was an avid sports fan. He loved to sail and to swim. His swimming buddies at Northcliff Pool were very important to John. Away in Ontario for 40 years, John returned for his love of Nova Scotia in 1989 for his retirement years. He will be remembered for his good humour and expansive repertoire of jokes. He is survived by his children, Penny (Don STEWARD/STEWART/STUART) in Dartmouth and Joan (Murray MALONEY,) Debbie, Bradley and John Jr. in Ontario, as well as his, grandchildren Keith and Leanne STEWARD/STEWART/STUART and Andrea, Christopher and Brendan MALONEY, and great-grandchild Ava Grace FISCHER. Sisters Ina MONDOUX in Halifax and Helen BUTLER in Ontario survive him also. He was predeceased by his wife Betty (JAMES,) his brother Carl MOORE, and his sister Dentzel ERNST. Donations to Canadian Diabetes society are appreciated. A memorial is being planned by his family for the August holiday on his beloved Saint Margaret's Bay.
