RAMPLEE-
SMITH,
Colin
Martin
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Colin,
whose active, gregarious and gracious view on life was foreshortened
by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. He was in his 79th year. Beloved
husband of Christine (Chris)
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART and loving father to Sarah
(Clark) and his step-daughters, Lynne (Stuart) and Paula (Edgar).
Colin's loss to our individual lives is too painful to quantify.
Poppa/Grandpa to eight grandchildren he was a Very Important
Person. Magic fixer-upper of everything, he was our walking encyclopedia
and next to indispensable. His in-laws, the Harley family, lovingly
embraced this special man who earned their high esteem. A professional
engineer, Colin graduated with honours from Cambridge University
in 1951. His varied career spanned in diversity from the Avro
Arrow aircraft to managing the installation of sophisticated
technical equipment which enabled Canada's ice observers to help
ships navigate ice congested waters from the Great Lakes to the
high Arctic. Colin was one of the pioneers in a new era of monitoring
sea ice in Canada and the equipment eventually found it's way
into the modern satellite systems of today. He will be missed
by his many good Friends of long standing who shared his life-long
love of sports, academia and social pursuits. Former Environment
Canada colleagues, M.S. Society volunteers/personnel and members
of the U of T, Academy for Lifelong Learning also counted among
his many interests and Friends. He spent much of his last three
plus years at Scarborough Grace Hospital receiving very good
care from super nurses who made his life bearable. Thanks too
to the doctors and the Community Care Access Centre who showed
much compassion by allowing Colin to spend some quality time
at home, a priceless gift to him. A special thanks to the respiratory
technicians who were constantly there for us. Cremation has taken
place. A Memorial Service and reception in celebration of Colin's
life will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 1: 00 p.m. in the
chapel of Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge Street, North York
(2 lights south of Steeles). In lieu of flowers donations are
encouraged in Colin's name to be directed specifically to the
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Research Program at the Centre
for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University
of Toronto, 6 Queens Park Crescent., Toronto, Ontario M5S 3H2,
or The Sunnybrook Foundation for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Research, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M4N 3M5.

Isabella▲ (née
McCAGHERTY)
Margaret "
Peggy"
Isabella Ramsay, née
McCAGHERTY, has passed
away on March 12, 2006, after a short illness, at Rouge Valley
Centenary Hospital. Born in Collingwood, Ontario in 1925, Margaret
was the beloved mother of Peter, Ian and Robert; grandmother
of Jonathan, Andrew, Rebecca and Kaitlin; and widow of Donald
Alexander RAMSAY, who predeceased her in 1995. She devoted her
life to the care and nurturing of others, both in her career
and in her personal life - she was a registered nurse, mainly
at Saint_John's Rehab Hospital, for over two decades; her gentle
kindness and generosity of spirit were a positive influence on
everyone who knew and loved her. In later life, she pursued new
interests in Scottish country dancing and paperweight collecting
with great enthusiasm and enjoyment. She will be deeply missed.
Friends are invited to attend her funeral on Thursday, March 16th
at 1 p.m., at the chapel at Saint_John's Rehab Hospital, 285 Cummer
Avenue, Toronto. Please gather shortly before in the parking
lot. Family flowers only, please; donations in lieu to Covenant
House, or a charity of choice.
