Predeceased by her loving son John, her parents James and Annie PETCH and sisters Vivian, Beryl, Olive and brother Jack. Cherished grandmother of Christopher and Daniel. Glen will be lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Barbara, grand-nephews Paul, David (Colleen,) and Richard (Steve) MARRITT and grand-niece Robin (Rob) MARRITT and many nieces and nephews. Murray CLELAND, born in Toronto on August 9th, 1914, a son of the late Edward S. and Bertha (PETERKIN) CLELAND of Meaford, passed away at Central Place Retirement Home in Owen Sound on Tuesday January 24, 2006 at the age of 91. Murray served four years with Royal Canadian Air Force overseas, initially as a Radar Mechanic and later as a Flying Control Officer. Her was a part owner and manager of Meaford Steel Products Limited and, following retirement, he farmed in Grey County. Murray was an avid outdoorsman, being a Bruce Trail End-to-Ender No. 2, White Mountain 46er, and an Adirondack 46er. In keeping with Murray's wishes, cremation has taken place and interment of his cremated remains will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford. Crash claims former region mayor

Former Saint Thomas mayor Joanne BROOKS, who died in a weekend crash, left her city a bigger and better place, says former colleague and Ontario Labour Minister Steve PETERS.
"She had to be one of the most community-minded people ever in the history of Saint Thomas," PETERS, whom BROOKS succeeded as mayor in 1999, said yesterday.
London police confirmed BROOKS, 63, was killed in a crash on Highbury Avenue near Dingman Drive Saturday during a heavy rainstorm. Her death was one of three on area roads that day.
The southbound pickup truck BROOKS was driving flipped and landed in a ditch.
BROOKS spent 13 years as a Saint Thomas alderman, topping the polls three times before being appointed by council to succeed PETERS after he won office as an member of provincial parliament.
After 18 months as an appointed mayor, BROOKS ran for the job in the 2000 election, but lost to Peter OSTOJIC by 86 votes.
She ran for mayor again in 2003, but finished second to Jeff KOHLER, the current mayor.
PETERS said BROOKS's "crowning achievement" was chairing the committee that negotiated a 1995 annexation agreement with Southwold and Yarmouth townships, giving Saint Thomas badly needed land for new development.
"It was the first annexation in 30 years and allowed for tremendous residential development. She worked so hard on that," said PETERS
Born and raised in Saint Thomas, BROOKS worked for many years as a salesperson at the auto dealership now known as Saint Thomas Ford.
She also owned and operated a hairstyling shop and a children's wear store and was active in many civic groups, including the Trillium Fund, First United Church and Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
BROOKS was a founder and president of Christmas Cares, an organization that has delivered food and toys to needy Saint Thomas-Elgin families for 25 years.
BROOKS and her husband, Stirling, had been married for 43 years. Along with her husband, she's survived by her son, John, daughters Shelly and Sue and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Saint Thomas tomorrow from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at First United Church.

PETTIT, Vivian Ann (SOUTHWICK)
With stillness, and her son Dennis at her side, Vivian Ann PETTIT left us at University Hospital at the age of 87 as the result of a stroke. She joins her best friend and husband of 62 years, Gar (2001) and predeceased siblings Lloyd, Ray, Bud, Madeleine, Pat and Harvey. "Mom" to Dennis (Sine) PETTIT of London and Wayne (Carmen) PETTIT of Houston, Texas. She was infinitely proud of her boys and their families. She supported them unwaveringly her entire life. Her grandchildren were so lucky to have Nana into their adult lives. Nana's stories and trips to the beach will be missed by Brooke and Brett, Carrie (Trevor) MERRICK of Edmonton, Alberta, Kelly (Dave) ROWCLIFFE of London, Stephanie (Bill) PETERS of Southampton, New York. Nothing gave Nana more joy than to see her seven great-grandchildren born. She will be missed by Josh, Kennedy, Steven, Paige, Ella, Tyler and Bridget. There will surely be a void at the annual Southwick and Pettit picnic. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews with whom she had a special bond as "Aunt Viv". Vivian had a long life starting in Weed, California where she developed a love for horses and all animals. After moving to Brantford, she met the love of her life Gar in 1938 while working at Patterson's Candy. Married 62 years, they shared a wonderful life in Brantford, Toronto, London and in retirement on the shores of Lake Huron and Winterhaven, Florida. Vivian and Gar were models for our family, immediate and extended, and we will carry forward their love, generosity, compassion and integrity with us. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place in Mount Pleasant at a later date. A resident of Chatham and formerly of Tupperville, Thelma (PETERS) MORRISON died on Monday, November 6, 2006 at Copper Terrace Nursing Home at the age of 94. Born in Sombra Township, daughter of the late Arnold and Lily Mae (KENDALL) PETERS. Beloved wife of the late Angus MORRISON (August 2006.) Loving mother of Keith and Tricia MORRISON of British Columbia, and Burton and Diane MORRISON of Chatham. Grandmother of Jamie MORRISON of Merlin and Ken MORRISON of Chatham and 4 great-grandchildren. Sister of Erma FURTAH of Wallaceburg and predeceased by Donald PETERS. SHAW, Valear Ann (August 21, 1931-May 7, 2006)
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Val was raised on her family's thoroughbred breeding ranch. She was an accomplished young horsewoman and won many ribbons at the annual Calgary Horse Shows. She attended St. Hilda's School for Girls. In 1943 the family moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, where Val attended Crofton House School and graduated from Grade 12 in 1949. She was presented to the Lieutenant Governor as a debutante in 1949. She married in 1950 and moved to Montreal, Quebec where her two sons, Martin PETERS and Richard PETERS were born. The family then moved to Hamilton, Ontario where her third son, Lawrence PETERS was born. Val remarried in 1974, in Toronto, to William Samuel Gordon SHAW who predeceased her in 1990. In 1990 Val moved to Sidney, British Columbia where she lived until her death. Val leaves to mourn her death, her three sons, Martin PETERS (Candy) and grandchildren Kent and Lucy; Richard PETERS (Marlene;▲) Lawrence PETERS and grand_son Jeremy; Stepson Brian SHAW (Debbie) and grandchildren David and Jennifer. Val will be sadly missed by her brother Lance ECKARDT, Vancouver; her cousins: Gale CURRIE, Michael EAKIN, Jack EAKIN, as well as her many Friends in Toronto, Vancouver and Sidney. At her request there will be no funeral services. Her ashes will be sent to the Forest Lawn Mausoleum in Toronto to be placed in the Shaw Family Crypt.

Hilton Head, S.C. -- Emily Chapin "Jamie" Jamieson KNAPP, 89, died Friday, June 16, after a long illness. She was born March 20, 1917 in Warren, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Lewis C. JAMIESON and Julia Bliss Chapin JAMIESON. She received her B.A. from Bennington College in 1938, married David KNAPP on May 31, 1941, and worked as a fashion illustrator for Lord and Taylor in New York City before starting a family. The family moved to Oakville where they lived for 23 years before retiring to South Carolina. She painted throughout her life. She is survived by five children, their spouses and grandchildren: Julia, Arthur, Allison and Ashley Roslund of Lyndonville, Vermont; Marcia, Lon, Megan and Meredith PETERS of Portland, Oregon; David, Kathy and David T. KNAPP of Oakton, Virginia; Cynthia KNAPP and Pete HOLDNAK of Atlanta, Georgia.; and Jamie KNAPP and Rick PALKOVIC of Davis, California. Peacefully on Wednesday, July 12th in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late Joseph RACINE 1908-1968. Dear Mother of Margaret (Malcolm) SHINER, Gaylen (Elin) RACINE, and Florence (Lloyd) TAILOR/TAYLOR. Loving Grandmother of Laura MALONEY, Joan HARGRAVE, Keith SHINER, Claire RACINE, Jeanne RACINE, Kathleen KAUFFMAN and Bryony PETERS. Also loving greatgrandmother of 9 little ones. Marian lived her life with great energy, humor, optimism and humility. Her light shone on everyone she encountered and she was much loved. She was born in Fort William, graduated from the University of Manitoba in Home Economics, and did further studies in secretarial training and social work in Montreal. Her life's activities (in Fort William, Winnipeg and Brampton) were directed by her love of people. She naturally gravitated into numerous community and church related activities which were recognized by her being awarded the Brampton Citizen's Civic Award in 1985. Much of her working life was spent with the Children's Aid Society during which time she placed a large number of children for adoption into private homes, and in so doing touched many, many lives. A memorial service to celebrate her wonderful life will take place in Grace United Church (156 Main St. North), Brampton on Wednesday, July 19th at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at the church beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to Grace United Church, Brampton or to the Children's Aid Society of Peel Region would be appreciated by the family. PETERS, Mabel E.
Mabel PETERS died peacefully in the early morning on Sunday, September 10th, 2006. She was 87 years old and follows her husband, Jim PETERS, who died in November 2000. She was the last of the three Coulson sisters, having been predeceased by her sisters Pauline and Harryette. She leaves behind many old Friends as well as her son David PETERS, her daughter Diana O'SULLIVAN, her daughter and son-in-law Ann PETERS and Michael O'SULLIVAN, and her especially loved grandchildren, Stephanie, Sarah and Jamie who, over the years spent a lot of time with their much loved "Shine". Her nieces and nephew, Daphne, Debbie, Anne, Cathy and Andy were also very close to her and loved her dearly. She lived a wonderful and complete life and all of us will miss her constant interest, her gaiety and her laughter. The family will receive Friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday. The funeral service will be held in Grace Church-on-the-Hill, 300 Lonsdale Road, on Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Mabel loved colour and flowers are welcome at the funeral home.
