University of Western Ontario, Holy Spirit Parish, Divine Word
International Centre, Women's Workshop, The Circle Women's Centre,
Finders Keepers, Book Club, Society for Learning in Retirement,
New Horizons Band and many circles of close Friends. Visitation
at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, on
Thursday, December 21st from 2-4 p.m., where family and Friends
are also invited to gather for a celebration of Madeleine's life
at 7: 00 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday,
December 22nd, 2006 at 11: 00 a.m. in the Westview Chapel. Interment,
Saint Peter's Cemetery. Friends who wish to make a donation in
Madeleine's memory are asked to consider Wellspring, 231 Hyman

of a heart attack. He is survived by his loving wife and partner

PENTLAND.) He had eight grandchildren he enjoyed
special time with, Sarah, Leslie, Diana, Mark, Veronica, Jesse,
Josh and Allie. Howard was a graduate of Victoria College and
Emmanuel College Toronto B.A.B.D. He also earned a M.Th. from
the University of Ottawa, 1970. He received an honorary degree
Doctor of Divinity from Emmanuel College Toronto, 1978. Howard
held a variety of positions within the United Church - Parishes
in Magrath, Alberta, St. David's in Hamilton, Central in Welland,
Grace United in Brampton, Trinity in Ottawa and Forest Grove
in Toronto. He was an active 'churchman' who served in many capacities
within the scope of the United Church of Canada. He was the first
Secretary of Hamilton Conference, Deputy Secretary of General
Council and Chair of the Division of Ministry Personnel and Education.
Howard was a Reserve Chaplain in the Royal Canadian Navy from
1952 to 1982. After he retired he trained as an Interim Minister
and served several parishes including Scot's Church, Adelaide,
South Australia. He was interested and involved in the Senior
Alumni Program at University of Toronto and received the Arbor
Award for outstanding voluntary service in 2004. Howard was a
lover of education, theology, and athletics. Throughout his life
he was a thoughtful and compassionate person who walked with
others wherever they were on their journey in life. He and Shirley
enjoyed travelling together, time at the cottage and time with
family and Friends. He will be greatly missed and cherished in
all our memories. He will be remembered at a reception on Thursday,
January 19th in the Hearth Room at Forest Grove United Church
from 7-9 p.m. and at a celebration of his life to be held Friday,
January 20th at 11 a.m., 43 Forest Grove Drive, North York, Ontario.
