Duo sought after killing

Toronto -- Police were searching for a young mother and her seven-month-old daughter who may have a connection to Toronto's latest homicide.
Police found the body of Christopher PELLEW, 22, in north Toronto Sunday.
Investigators discovered a trail in the mud suggesting the body had been dragged about 50 metres, Supt. Roy PILKINGTON said. It led to a basement apartment.
When police arrived, the front door was open. Tenants Zalika ELLIS, 19, and her seven-month-old daughter, Zahara, were gone.
"It was apparent that they had left in quite the hurry," PILKINGTON said.
ELLIS's family is concerned for her safety, police said.

Police were searching North York yesterday for a young mother and her seven-month-old daughter who may have a connection to the city's latest homicide.
At 9 p.m. Sunday, police found the body of 22-year-old Christopher PELLEW on Lindylou Road, in the Finch Avenue West and Weston Road area of North York.
Mr. PELLEW, Toronto's 11th homicide this year, was fatally shot in the chest, police say.
Superintendent Roy PILKINGTON of 31 Division said that after finding the body, investigators discovered a trail in the mud that suggested the body had been dragged about 50 metres through several backyards.
The trail led police to a basement apartment on Daystrom Drive, directly behind Lindylou Road, where the shooting is believed to have occurred.
When police arrived at the residence, across the street from Daystrom Public School, the front door was open and the lights on. The tenants, Zalika ELLIS, 19, and her seven-month-old daughter, Zahara, were gone.
"It was apparent that they had left in quite the hurry," Supt. PILKINGTON said.
Ms. ELLIS's family, who contacted police after hearing about the incident, are concerned for the young woman's safety, police said.
Neighbours on Daystrom Drive, a residential street lined with semi-detached houses, describe Ms. ELLIS as a caring young mother.
"We've never had any trouble with her before," said her next-door neighbour, Christan GAIBOR.
"She's a good mother who keeps to herself," Christan's father, Medardo, added.
"I feel really shocked," said one neighbour who asked not to be named.
"We live in a safe family community with children and schools and parks. This sort of thing just doesn't happen here."
"It's really sad," said a young neighbour who lives adjacent to Ms. ELLIS's home. "I didn't see what happened last night but I'm still scared."
Neighbouring homes were cordoned off by police yesterday and several vehicles were impounded, including one rental car that police believe is associated with the incident.
Mr. PELLEW was "very well known to police" with a "significant criminal record for various crimes," Supt. PILKINGTON said.

Loving mother of Dean (wife Evelyn), Peggy (husband Fred), Carolyn (husband Dale, predeceased), Vicky (husband Rod), Les (wife Pam) and Bonnie (husband Don). Sadly missed by 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her two grandchildren Duane and Denise. Survived by her brother Walter (wife Helmi) PELTONEN and sister-in-law Verna. Predeceased by her first husband Oscar BERGERSON and her second husband Benny AUCOIN, her brother Tauno and sister Gertie. Jean will always be remembered by her many relatives and Friends. Visitation will be held at the "Scarborough Chapel" of McDougall and Brown, 2900 Kingston Rd. (east of St. Clair Ave.) on Friday from 11-12 p.m. Funeral Service to follow in the Chapel at 12 p.m. Interment at Prospect Cemetery. Peacefully at Lee Manor, Wilma went to be with the Lord in heaven on Saturday, October 28, 2006. Wilma MacKAY (née REDNER) of Owen Sound in her 75th year. Beloved wife of Jim MacKAY. Dear mother of Don and his wife Christine of Bowmanville, Bob and his wife Debra of Carleton Place, Ken and his wife Tamara of Owen Sound and Linda MacKAY of Waterloo. Sadly missed by eight grandchildren Jaime-Lynn and her husband Carl SHIDELER, Melissa and her friend Darren McCREADY, Lindsey, Alicia, Craig, Kevin and his fiancée Candice RAAB, Sarah and Jessie. Daughter of Bernard REDNER and his wife Doris BELLEVILLE and the late Aletha (née BIRD.) Also survived by three brothers Ron REDNER and his wife Laura of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Jim REDNER and his wife Mairi of Ottawa and Gordon and his wife Lynda of Belleville, six sisters Beverly and her husband Rev. Of Hanover, formerly of R.R.#2 Desboro, passed away at Hanover Care Centre on Thursday, December 14, 2006 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Mabel. Loving father of Joan and her husband Garry WILSON of Winnipeg, Marlene and her husband Carl BAILEY of Chesley, Karen and her husband Doug PORTER of Hepworth, Douglas and his wife Bonnie of R.R.#2 Desboro and Jeff and his wife Brenda of R.R.#2 Desboro. He will be missed by his eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Cecil also leaves behind Mabel's children, Douglas (Charmaine) KLAGES, Lorna (Adolph) PELTZER, Sheila (Earl) GARDINER, Faye (Gerry) BREKELNANS and Tim (Randy) KLAGES as well as twelve step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Eileen KLAGES of Chesley, and Shirley and her husband Mervin REDMOND of Chesley Lake. Predeceased by his first wife Marjorie (HEFT) SACKS, brother Orneth SACHS and his parents Andrew and Emma (WATHKE) SACHS. Visitation will be held at Cameron Funeral Home, Chesley on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 18, 2006 at First St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Hanover at 11 a.m. Spring interment in Chesley Cemetery. ANDREWS, Jean (née STRACHAN)
Passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Sunday, January 1, 2006. Beloved wife of Dr. Alan ANDREWS. Loving mother of Jane SLOGGETT, Betty ANDREWS, Janet VARNER and her husband David. Loving grandmother to Scott and Elizabeth SLOGGETT and Jennifer and Kelly PELZ. She is predeceased by her father Reverend J.T. STRACHAN, her mother Adeline STRACHAN, and brother Knox STRACHAN. She loved learning and attended school in Owen Sound, was a House Captain at Havergal College and attended the University of Toronto. She married Alan in 1943 at Knox College Chapel with her father as the presiding minister. After the war they relocated to Galt where Alan set up his optometry practice. She loved and excelled at her career in real estate both in Galt and Muskoka. A private family service will be held and a private interment will take place at Mount View Cemetery, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, in honour of her love for pets, donations, if desired, may be made to your local humane society.
