She loved us all and wanted nothing but the best for each and every one of us. She made us who we are. Her nine grandchildren, Kyle, Brett and Sean in Napa, California, Megan and Adrienne in Oakville, Ontario and Claudia, Monica and twins Georgia and Sonia in Toronto were a constant source of inspiration and joy to her. Born Katharine Lois JENTZ she grew up in the paper making town of Three Rivers, Quebec. After raising and educating her children in Montreal and Toronto she pursued her life-long interest in film and fine art and in 1977 graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history. Lois will be remembered forever for her unique sense of class and timeless style. She taught us all to eat healthy long before it was ever the fashionable thing to do. A superb hostess, she enjoyed nothing more than entertaining family and Friends around her dinner table filled with lively conversation at her homes on St. Armand's Key, Sarasota, and in Niagara-on-the-Lake. MORI, Robert Victor
After a courageous four year battle with cancer, Robert MORI, 51 years of age, continued his journey to the next world at 11: 00 a.m. on January 20, 2006, in the loving atmosphere of his home and surrounded by family and Friends. Loving husband for 27 years of Tonie (née HENDRIKS.) Dear father of Anisa and Miguel MORI. Dear son of Leno (Heidi) MORI and the late Philomena. Loving brother of Richard (Bonnie) MORI, Paula VANSTAALDUINEN, Bill (Stacey) MORI, Linette (Jim) GARRETT, Albert (Tara) MORI and Angela (Michael) GORDON. Cherished son-in-law of Martin and Helen HENDRIKS, and brother-in-law to Albert (Nancy) HENDRIKS, Joanne (David) MANTINI, Jane (Les) TASSE and the late Jessie HENDRIKS (1976). Rob gave generously and capably in service to all of society, as he did to the Baha'i communities throughout the Niagara Region. He served on the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'i community of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Rob was part of every event giving whole-hearted, caring support - always striving for excellence. Many knew Rob's passion as a runner as he ran through the streets of Niagara-on-the-Lake. His stride was seen as "Poetry in Motion". He ran his best marathon (26 miles) in Ottawa in 2 hours, 33 minutes. Rob's life was devoted to doing and serving. He joined the family business, Mori Nurseries, after graduation and quickly established himself as V.P. in Sales and Marketing in the company, devoting himself with endless energy to the company's advancement, expansion and development of operations in Ontario, the United States and Mexico in the horticultural industry. He pioneered the development of computer software now used in the horticultural industry in Canada and United States known as "Gro Ware". During over 30 years with the company, Rob focused on promoting the development and advancement of the independent garden centre trade from Ontario through to the Atlantic Provinces and into the Great Lake and New England States. His passion for horticulture led him to travel widely throughout North America and Europe where he forged close relationships with many nurserymen and was able to share their new introductions with Mori Nurseries' many clients. Rob has left his mark, not only in the horticultural industry, but in the hearts of the many lives he touched. Family will receive Friends at the Niagara-On-The-Lake Chapel of the Morgan Funeral Homes, 415 Regent Street, on Saturday and Sunday, January 21st and 22nd, from 2-5 and 7-9 o'clock. MacDONALD, Robert K. " Bob"
'The world has lost a tremendous human being, a loving friend and humanitarian' (S. Jukes, 2 May 2006.) Robert K. (Bob) MacDONALD died May 1 at the Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington at the age of 78. A veteran Canadian broadcaster, 'Mr. Mac' was a retired Vice-President of Armadale Communications. An elementary school teacher by training, he began his broadcasting career in 1950 as an announcer at CFAR in Flin Flon, and later went on to work at CJGX Yorkton and CKCK Regina. At CKRC Winnipeg, he became General Manager, a position he subsequently held at CKOC Hamilton before being named as Vice-President at Armadale in 1988. During the course of his career, he discovered and trained many young men and women who achieved success in prominent positions across Canada. Bob was a member of the Canadian Association of Broadcaster's Half Century Club and a former president of the Central Canada Broadcaster's Association. He supported and held positions with several charitable organizations including the Arts Council and the United Way of Hamilton. He was a devoted husband to Margaret, cherished father to Sandra and Sara, and beloved 'Grampa' to Christopher. Bob was the 'little' brother of Max MacDONALD of Edmonton and of Glenn MacDONALD and Doreen MORISON, now deceased. He was a unique and special uncle to an extended network of nieces and nephews. Years ago, Bob had the opportunity to speak at length with Pierre Trudeau following a small gathering of broadcasters. Upon leaving Trudeau remarked, 'you are a very interesting man.' For family and Friends, this comment is so indicative of Bob's character and the fact that he never stopped learning, exploring, and helping others. His special humour, gentle nature and unique style will always be remembered with love by family and Friends. We wish to extend our deepest thanks to Gus and Anja SONDERMEYER, to a very caring and compassionate physician, Doctor Kathy THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON, and to 'Auntie Helen' (MacDONALD.) Bob so appreciated the visits of his many Friends who traveled from near and far to spend time with him during his recent hospitalization. We also want express our sincere thanks to the nursing staff of 5 South and special caregivers, Gabrielle, Uta, Lydia, and Marie. Family, Friends, and former colleagues are invited to a very informal open house in celebration of Bob's life at the family home in Burlington on Saturday, May 27th from 2-5 p.m. If desired, donations in Bob's name may be made to the 'Rebuilding Health in Rwanda Project' at the University of Western Ontario in London (c/o Foundation Western, Alumni Hall, London, Ontario N6A 5B9).

Nina MORLEY, Professor (1909-2006)
Brilliant University of Toronto researcher's first supervisor was Charles BEST, with whom she co-authored an early paper
By Carol COOPER, Special to The Globe and Mail, Page S9
Most likely, Nina MORLEY, a bright high-school graduate from Kamloops, British Columbia, found her life a bit boring. During the 1930s, discouraged from working or higher education by her parents, she spent her life playing badminton, participating in theatre groups and leading Girl Guides.
So, when offered a free place to stay in Toronto, Nina MORLEY, 10 years out of high school, headed east on a one-way ticket. Once arrived, she enrolled at the University of Toronto and eventually became a researcher there. Her first supervisor was Charles BEST, a co-discoverer of insulin; with him, she co-authored one of her early papers.
She taught at the university while continuing with her research in the Banting and Best Department of Medical Research, part of the U of T's faculty of medicine.
Under the supervision of Arnis KUKSIS, she studied the activity of the lipases involved in fat absorption from the intestine and in fat clearance from the blood, resulting in a better understanding of one of the underlying causes of obesity, heart disease and strokes. Lipases are the enzymes that break down dietary or blood fats and free the fatty acids required for absorption by tissues.
Prof. MORLEY co-authored many papers published in leading scientific journals with Doctor KUKSIS, her final supervisor, between the late 1960s and late '70s. "Nina was a very determined, independent person," Doctor KUKSIS said. "There really wasn't room for supervision."
Nina Hope MORLEY grew up as the second of four daughters of an English lawyer and his wife. Not only did she excel in high school, but also at the U of T. The Globe and Mail reported in June of 1939: "Scores of scholarships and prizes studded the list with special kudos for the elect, none of them could match for sheer dramatic quality, the performance of Miss Nina H. MORLEY of Kamloops, British Columbia, who at 29, and after being out of school for 10 years, won the 1939 Governor-General's silver medal for highest general proficiency."
Prof. MORLEY, according to the reporter, said she had never thought much about going to university but, when the opportunity arose, she went out of curiosity and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Perhaps she had been influenced by a British teacher who once stayed with the MORLEY family. For at least 25 years, she corresponded with Christine Fonntaine, who sent her books as well as letters.
Prof. MORLEY supported herself through her degree by doing odd jobs and babysitting, graduating in 1941 in home economics. She interned at Vancouver General Hospital as a dietician and, in 1944, finished her master's degree at the University of British Columbia. The school hired her as an assistant professor of home economics.
"She was an excellent professor," said Evelyn SIMS, one of her students from that time. "She was compassionate and a great person. You could talk to her, any time."
At the same time, she worked on her PhD, keeping her research in one of the wartime huts that served as a classroom. When the hut burned down, her work went with it. Still, she completed her doctorate in home economics at Oregon State College in 1957.
From there, she took up research at the University of Toronto and stayed until retirement. After she retired, she stayed active with the university, proofreading and editing many papers. She also travelled extensively and took an avid interest in the history of the Middle East, even studying cuneiform.
She never married, perhaps because her British parents cared about the social status of her suitors, perhaps because the Second World War intervened.
Said a friend, Shirley FRASER: " She believed that everyone was put on Earth for a reason and that everyone, whether in work or in life, had it within them to live up to their full potential even if they had to be berated into believing it."
Nina Hope MORLEY was born in Kamloops, British Columbia, on December, 14, 1909. She died in Toronto on May 9. She is survived by her sister, Brenda.
