DEVEREUX, James Peter (February 20, 1930-May 8, 2006)
Very peacefully, surrounded by his family, James has set forth on his final sail. son of the late James and Kathleen DEVEREUX. Adored husband for nearly 50 years to Barbara. Father of six, Mark (Marylynn,) British Columbia; Michele (Paul) MENDELSON, Toronto; Nikki (Paul) BRAND, England; Melissa (Paul), Ireland Matthew and James. Beloved Granddad to Samantha, Alex, Kathryn Jared, Austin, Natasha; Nathan and Max. Beloved brother to Pat, Eileen, Joe, Bernie, Kathleen and Maura. Born in Liverpool, England, eldest of seven, James early years were shaped by growing up during the war. He joined the Royal Air Force and saw action in Egypt. As a mechanical engineer he worked the tug boats in Liverpool. He immigrated to Canada, sent for Barbara WOODS and they were married. Jim worked at Texaco Refinery in Clarkson. He raised his six children on Southdown Road and started his diverse career. Jim was Manager of Motor Specialty, later Magna, then became manager of Nepentha, and later Maxwell's Plum in Yorkville. He was in charge of renovations of the King Edward Hotel in 1981 and later the Essex Park. Jim retired in the mid 80's and started building his beloved boat "The O'Sean", a 58' ketch. At 65, he sailed solo, across the North Atlantic, enduring force 8 gales. He spent many years sailing but that ended in 2001, when after traversing the South Atlantic, Jim was felled by a stroke in Barbados. He spent several years in Canada, but returned to England, where he passed away after a short illness. He was cremated on May 12th in England. Passed away at the Valleyview Home for the Aged, Saint Thomas on Thursday, February 2, 2006, in her 91st year. Loving wife of the late Murray A. CORNISH (1992.) Mother of Lynda RUDDICK, Karen MOULE and her husband Mike, and Richard W.H. CORNISH and his wife Catherine UPFOLD, all of Saint Thomas. Grandmother of Chris RUDDICK and his wife Sandra SCHNIEDER/SNIDER/SNYDER of R.R.#2, St. Agatha, Julie CONNOR and her husband Ian of Barrie, Kerry MENDIANS and her husband Dr. Andrew MENDIANS of Manistee, Michigan, Kristy O'REILLY, and Michael J. MOULE and his partner Christine COLLINS, all of Saint Thomas. Also survived by 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Born in London, Ontario, June 7, 1915, the daughter of the late Herbert and Ethel (HARKNESS) TAILOR/TAYLOR, she lived most of her adult life in the area. Mrs. CORNISH was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Saint Thomas and a former member of Monta Rebekah Lodge, Belmont. The funeral and committal service will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas on Saturday at 11: 00 a.m. Interment will be made in Elmdale Memorial Park privately. BRADFORD, John Vincent " Jack"
Peacefully on February 1, 2006, after a lengthy illness, Jack BRADFORD passed on to his eternal rest. Jack was predeceased by his parents Jack and Cora BRADFORD, sister Joye MENEER, and brothers Stewart and Ted BRADFORD. Jack is survived by the love of his life Shirley McGUIRE, sister-in-law Rheta BRADFORD, numerous nieces and nephews and many close Friends. Jack was born in Swan River, Manitoba on April 4, 1932. As a teen he was an avid hockey player. Over the years he worked as a telegraph operator for C.N. and C.P. Railways. Jack's favourite past times included spending time with family and Friends, travelling, dancing, singing and attending Toronto Blue Jays games. He loved a good laugh. Jack recently retired after spending 30 years driving a cab in the Toronto area and was proud of being featured in the January 2000 issue of Taxi News as the First Cover Cab of the Millennium. Jack was a gentle, patient, fun loving gentleman, who held his family and Friends in high regard. We will all miss him greatly including his funny, happy songs. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gary LOCH and the staff at Community Services for their excellent care of Jack. Special thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff of the Palliative Unit at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto for their excellent care and compassion extended to Jack over the past several weeks. We will all miss you Jack. Thank you for enriching our lives, God bless and may you rest in peace until we meet again. Cremation will take place. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 3: 00 p.m. at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home and Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street (south of Wellesley). Jack will be laid to rest with his parents in Winnipeg at a later date. Peacefully on May 16th, 2006 after 20 months in the complex care unit at Barrie's Royal Victoria Hospital. Jim was born in Pittsburgh in 1910 and lived in England prior to coming to the Toronto area where he resided until moving to Barrie in his later years. Jim was admired by all who knew him for his gentle friendly nature he regularly enjoyed recounting stories of his life and times with Friends and family and even well into his 80's with his loyal customers. Much loved and greatly missed by his children Bob (Sue) of Toronto, Don (Jill) Midhurst, and Mary (Cory) MENEES, Raleigh, North Carolina and his grandchildren Meeka, Brian (Amy), Cory, James, Greg and Jon. At Jim's request no service will be held; his ashes will be buried, along with those of his beloved Molly, in Pine Hills Cemetery, Toronto. MENELEY, Rosanna " Rose" (née BRENNAN) (1932-2006)
Rose MENELEY, beloved wife of Robert MENELEY of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 16, 2006 following a great life, undiminished by the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis twenty seven years ago. Rose was born in Kilkenny, Ireland to Daniel and Mary BRENNAN on January 26, 1932. In 1953 Rose graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Luton and Dunstable Hospital in England and followed this with a certificate in Orthopaedic Nursing in 1956. She immigrated to Canada in 1957 as the first step in a working trip around the world. Following short stints in Toronto and Calgary, she nursed at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton. The wanderlust bug bit again in 1958 and she accepted a position as an Industrial Nurse at Imperial Oil's Norman Wells Refinery (North West Territories). In addition to that she traveled by canoe, dogsled and C46 doing medivacs from the north. In 1959 she met Bob who was working as a geologist in Norman Wells for Imperial Oil. Rose and Bob were married in Ireland in October 1960 and then returned to Dawson Creek, British Columbia. In Dawson Creek she quickly made a circle of Friends who continued on with her to Calgary where they stood by her and supported her to the end. Rose loved bridge, golf, tea and chat and serving Irish coffee. Besides her loving husband, Rose is survived by six children and thirteen grandchildren, Marie (Kent) PATERSON, Alex and Ben Anne (Vaidila BANELIS), Theo; Patrick (Michelle), Daniel, Ryan, Liam, Ciara and Declan; Daniel (Myriam BRULOT,) Isabelle and Vivian; Angela (Peter) SEKULIC, Brennan, Olivia and Jared; and David. She is also survived by her brothers, John and Patrick and sisters, Sara and Margaret and by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Ireland. Rose was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Dan, Martin, William and Gerry; and grand_son Lucas. As a successful businessman and entrepreneur he was a senior executive, president, Chief Executive Officer, and owner of several corporations such as Eaton, Standard Brands, Valley Bottling, and Bionaire. Allen enjoyed numerous activities including fishing, cross word puzzles, gardening, golfing, sailing, skiing, and spending time with his grandchildren. There will be no visitations. The funeral service will be at 4: 00 p.m., October 17th, at the Trinity Anglican Church, 1230 Bank Street, at the corner of Cameron Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario. Professor Atta Annan MENSAH passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2006 at Humber River Regional Hospital in Toronto. He was 81. He completed extensive professional studies at Achimota College (Ghana), Trinity College of Music (London), University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Ghana. Professor Atta Annan MENSAH was ranked amongst the most respected ethnomusicologists. As an educator, he was a mentor to many young musicians and taught at the following universities: University of Ghana, University of Zambia, Makerere University (Uganda), University of Cape Coast (Ghana), University of Ilorin (Nigeria), York University, and Central State University (Wilberforce, Ohio.) Professor MENSAH is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mrs. Mercy Eugenia MENSAH, five adult children and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings. He worked for Canadian Pacific Rail for a number of years and retired from Kellogg's after 27 years of service. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and visiting with family and Friends. He is survived by his wife Elsie of Brooksville, Florida, daughter Debbie (Bruce) ELLISON, Saint Marys, stepdaughter Karen (Ted) FIRNSTEIN of Springhill, Florida and stepson Thomas (Sue) MENTRAK of Kingston, Ontario. Three special granddaughters Melissa NOXELL (Don), Tammy NOXELL (Bryce), Tara GARLAND (Chris) and four great grandchildren, Brittany, Alexandra, Brayden and Colby. One sister-in-law Ruth DUNLAP. He taught and coached at Western before entering medicine. He graduated in 1957 and received his fellowship in General surgery in 1962, and Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons in 1966. He was inducted into the Western "W" Club Sports Hall of Fame in 1984. He practiced General Surgery in Tillsonburg for 33 years in partnership first with Elmer Quintyn and later with Mohammed Sabet and James BROWN. Passed away peacefully at Tillsonburg Memorial Hospital on September 18, 2006 in his 79th year. Beloved husband of wife Joan▲ (CRANSTON) of 50 years, wonderful father of Chris (his dear friend Sheila MENZES,) Lisa▲ RAHN (ORT) (husband Aaron) of Vancouver, and Robert ORT of Guelph. Loving grandfather of Carley, Sarah, and Andrea ORT, Jason,▲ and Kyla RAHN. Survived by his sister Margaret CHAMBERLIN (ORT) and predeceased by his brothers Harry and Gerald. Reg graduated with an Honours B.A. in Physical Education from University of Western Ontario in 1952 where he starred in football, hockey and wrestling. He received the Doctor Claude Brown Memorial Award and the Hon. G. Howard Ferguson award for the highest achievement in athletics, scholarship and university life. He taught and coached at Western before entering medicine. He graduated in 1957 and received his fellowship in General surgery in 1962, and Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons in 1966. He was inducted into the Western "W" Club Sports Hall of Fame in 1984. He practiced General Surgery in Tillsonburg for 33 years in partnership first with Elmer QUINTYN and later with Mohammed SABET and James BROWN. Special▲ thanks to Doctor Robert HEVENOR and the dedicated and caring staff of Tillsonburg Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Dear mother of Anne and Brian JACQUES, Rob and Cindy MENZIES, John and Denise MENZIES and David and Leanne MENZIES all of Petrolia and Ted and Darcy MENZIES of Hamilton. Dear grandmother of Bill KONCOVY, Steven and Jen KONCOVY, Rebecca and Randy NAPPER, Jen JACQUES and Joel WEED, Matt, Alex, Heather, Eric, Sara, Nicole, Courtney, Jamie and Scott MENZIES and Denise and Brian BUGLER, and Eric and Christine HUET and the late Jordan MENZIES. Hospital Auxiliary, the Margaret Stokes Chapter of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire, a founding member of Petrolia Minor Hockey Mothers, an avid supporter of Petrolia Minor Sports and as the founder and coordinator for 25 years of the community's Christmas for Everyone program. Visitors will be received on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Needham-Jay Funeral Home, Petrolia. The funeral service will be held at Christ Anglican Church, Petrolia on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 11: 00 a.m. with Reverend Brian SHOESMITH officiating. Of Guys Hill, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at the age of 93, at the York Central Hospital.
