60, of Saint Thomas, passed away at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Thursday, March 23, 2006. Beloved husband of Rachelle (LAROCQUE) REID. Loving father of Ian REID (Brenda) of Toronto, Lisa BAYLEY (Michael) of New Sarum, Aimi-Lynn McKAY (Gary,) and Lori BALDINELLI (Fabbio,) all of Saint Thomas. Cherished grandfather of Fabbio BALDINELLI Jr. and Shannon McKAY. Dear brother of Mac REID (Joanne) of London, and Brian REID (Sharon) of Virginia. Also survived by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Born in London, England, October 4, 1945, the son of the late George and Harriet (MAINES) REID. Ian was formerly employed as a bus driver with the London Transit Commission. There will be no public visitation or funeral service. Following cremation, a private graveside service will be held at Holy Angels' Cemetery, Saint Thomas. Flowers gratefully declined. She continued on to Harvard on full scholarship receiving her M.A. and Ph.D. She taught at Smith College while completing her graduate degree. She then returned to Canada and taught at Western Ontario as a professor of Old English. Betty had an insatiable love of reading. She had an extensive personal library and her greatest pleasure was spending time in the Widner Library at Harvard. She loved to cook and prepared many exotic dinners for her Friends. Betty enjoyed her nieces and nephews - never missing a birthday or Christmas with unusual gifts, often books. In later years she enjoyed traveling internationally with her niece Barbara TOOMER. Betty▼ grew up on the farm in Southern Ontario and through her aggressive reading and pursuit of knowledge became a respected teacher. Her sister Catherine became a medical doctor (Gynecology and Obstetrics, Western Ontario), her brother John (B.Sc. and M.Sc. Guelph, Ph.D. Wisconsin) was a Professor at Guelph, and her brother Robert (Ph.d. Duke) a business man. MAITLAND, Allen Bruce
On Tuesday July 18, 2006 only ten days short of his 86th birthday, Allen passed away at Humber River Regional Hospital, Church Street Site, due to complications following hip surgery. A veteran of World War 2 in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, R.C.E.M.E., he was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star and C.V.S.M. and Clasp, serving in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. After the war, he was a professional driver, then worked for Toronto Hydro until retirement. He was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Oddfellows (I.O.O.F.), and was active in a wide range of organizations including those devoted to railway and Toronto history. In recent years, he lived at St. Hilda's Towers where he had many Friends. Allen is survived by two relatives, Jackie LOUCKS of Alaska and Alemeth RITCHIE of Toronto, longtime Friends Jack MURTON and Bill HOOD, dear Friends Tony RICCI, Dorothy DUNCAN and Jane BEECROFT. Friends will be received at McDougall and Brown Funeral Home, 1812 Eglinton Avenue West (at Dufferin) on Sunday July 23 from 2-5 p.m. Funeral Service in the Chapel on Monday July 24, 2006 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Albert, Laurie and Mike DONELLY of Goderich, Sharon and Greg LA PAINE of London, Shawn and Priscilla DOHERTY of Toronto, Mary Lynn and David WEAVER of Goderich, Steve and Rachelle DOHERTY of Goderich and the late Peter DOHERTY. Loved by 21 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, cousins, in-laws and Friends. Brother of Clarence DOHERTY, Stan DOHERTY, Rita TIGERT, Mary MAIZE and Anne BERRY. Also survived by half-sister Sarah O'MULLAN. Predeceased by brothers James and John DOHERTY and half-sister Mary Catherine RANKIN. The family will receive Friends at the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home, Cambria Road at East Street, Goderich on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint_Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Kingsbridge, on Saturday morning at 11: 00.
