NEUMAN, Cynthia Vita (née BARRETT)
On October 1, 2006 Cynthia died of cancer. Born Cynthia Vita BARRETT in Toronto, December 25, 1921. As a young child Cynthia found a love of music and dance. As a teenager, she focused on dance; she studied with Saida Gerrard and periodically travelled to New York and studied there with Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman, Benjamin Zemach and Loius Horst. After roles in New York, including Broadway, Cynthia returned to Toronto and taught dance for various organizations and opened her own school. She also staged performances, many of them focusing on her Jewish and Canadian background. Her works included, among others, Canadiana, traditional folk music, in 1946 and Song of David, in 1949. Cynthia also worked as a choreographer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Carrying on her love of movement and dance into her senior years, Cynthia taught physical fitness to senior citizens until she was 80 years old. Cynthia is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Henry NEUMAN. She will be missed by her son Ilan, daughter-in-law Lisabeth, and grandchildren Joshua and Hannah NEUMAN of Toronto. She will be missed by Philip NEWMAN and Ted and Jennifer NEWMAN of New York City. Family and Friends will remember Cynthia for her energy, avid love of nature, the family cottage and fierce independence. Special thanks to Cromy MAGALONA and Grace SEM for their loving care. WELLS, Theodore " Ted" Reinhold
At the age of 94, on Sunday, January 16, 2006, Ted decided it was his time to move on. Ted always did things his way and this was no different. He was a loving husband to his late wife Martha, a supportive father to step-daughters Norma MAGANN (JOHNSON) and Dale CONNELL (JOHNSON,) and admired and loved by his grandchildren Michael (Wendy), Stephen (Cathy), Garry (Emma) and Arla (Bruno). His great-grandchildren adored him and will forever remember his playful nature. Born and raised on a farm in Alberta, Ted had a very strong work ethic. He was proud of his days in the navy as a Shore Patrol Officer and of his 35 years at Anaconda as a steam fitter. After his retirement, Ted became known for his "green thumb" and skills as a carpenter. In his final years, Ted became legendary. He was healthy, independent and wise well into his nineties. He will be dearly missed by his family and Friends. We feel privileged to have had him in our lives. Viewing will take place on Wednesday, January 18 from 7-9 p.m. and the memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 19 at 10: 30 a.m., both at Rod Abrams Funeral Home in Tottenham. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Donalda DEAN, a resident of Thompson Gardens in Corunna and former resident of Port Lambton. Muriel passed away in her 86th year at the Palliative Care Unit in the Bluewater Health Centre, Sarnia. Muriel was born in Salmon Arm, British Columbia on February 2, 1920. She was the second daughter of Charles Harvey THORNTON and Mary Elizabeth (CAVERS) THORNTON. Beloved wife of the late Grant Beverly DEAN for 53 years. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Dale and Colleen and Dana and Vera. Loving grandmother of Catherine and Terry SYER, Christine and Daniel MAGEE, Leslie and Alex PALIMAKA, Lisa and Robert RENDERS, Stephanie and John WYNDHAM and Geoffrey DEAN. Special great-grandma of Felicia, Emily, Nicholas, Matthew, Lauren, Natalie, Megan, Dean, Grant, Garrison, Mitchell and Wade. She is also survived by her sister Doris BRINACOMBE and nieces Brooke and Bethanne and their families. Sister-in-law of Jean CARSCALLEN and Jean DEAN. Muriel was a steadfast Christian who loved the Lord all of her life. In her younger years she taught Sunday School at the Port Lambton United Church and following that was the Sunday School Superintendent for 24 years. She was very loving and caring towards her family and was always there for them. Muriel was also a wonderful helpmate to her husband Grant who owned and operated the Walpole-Algonac Ferry from 1949-1981. Passed gently and with dignity on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at his home. Born in Toronto on May 4, 1918. Brian lived his life fully, filling it with much joy and significant accomplishment in both business and sport. Educated at Radley College (England), Trinity College School (Port Hope, Ontario), Royal Military College (Kingston, Ontario) and University of Toronto (Ontario), his dreams of a medical career were cut short by World War 2. He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Atlantic Fleet for the duration. He started work as a salesman for Perma Stone - then met A.E. LePage and found his place. Five years later he owned the company. During his long career, he was director of many companies and organizations. Dir. and Hon. Chrmn. Royal LePage Ltd.; Chrmn and Dir. Royal LePage (U.K.); Chrmn and Dir. A.M.C.A. (U.K.) Ltd. Dir. A.M.C.A. International. Ltd.; A.M.C.A. International Inc, (U.S.); A.M.C.A. BV (Holland); Dir. Management Advisory and Research Center Inc. (U.S.); Dir. Giddings and Lewis (U.K.) Ltd. (Scotland) Dir. Delta Hotels Ltd.; Past Dir. Cdn. National Sportsman Show Past Pres. Toronto Real Estate Board; Board of Trade of Metropolitan Toronto; Cdn. Real Estate Association; Past Trustee, Toronto General Hospital; and Past Dir. York University Business School. He loved being on the Toronto General Hospital Board and was proud that he brought a major expansion in under budget. He played cricket for Canada in 1954 and was honored to be a Member of the M.C.C. (London, England). He was the longest standing member of the Restigouche fishing Club and was never happier than landing the "big one" with his long-time friend and guide, Boyd Craswell. Founder of Loxahatchee Club (Jupiter, Florida) and Founder of Old Port Cove, (North Palm Beach, Florida) and Markborough Properties. During his long career, he made a significant impact on the face of Toronto as we know it today. He was involved in the land assembly for O'Keefe Centre, The Royal Bank Centre and Toronto-Dominion Bank Centre in Toronto. He was involved in the move of the Greenwood Race Track to the new Woodbine Race Track and the Granite Club to Bayview Avenue. He participated in the early stages of Don Mills with E.P. Taylor and the creation of Thorncliffe Park with George Goldlist. Member of Rosedale Golf Club, National Club, York Club, Granite Club, Toronto Racquet Club, Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club and Hendon Gold (England). In addition to his fishing and other sporting activities, he found time to obtain his private pilot's license that he and Elaine enjoyed together. He knew that pain and joy were a natural part of every life. He was orphaned at age 11 years, married at age 23 and built his family with his beloved wife, Elaine Sadie LEGER. He deeply mourned her passing in 2001, their daughter Judith Evelyn BARIL and granddaughter Catherine (1985) and happily survived to welcome his first great-granddaughter Daniela Evan PAPE in March of this year. He was loved and will be missed by his children Brian (Susan HALLS,) Ivan, Karen Pape, and grandchildren Sarah and Aaron PAPE (Anastasia BOGNER,) Brendan and Diana MAGEE, and Charles BARIL. During his long life he shared both good and bad times and a great deal of laughter with a large circle of Friends, colleagues and extended family in Canada, England and Florida. In spite of failing health, he was always considerate of others and wanted to express his special thanks to Cress Josue, Noel O'Halloran, and all his home-helpers that gave so much to him and to our family. Doctor Warren McIssac, Doctor Terumi Izukawa and Dr. Russell Goldman are gratefully remembered for their care and attention. A service in celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 in Saint_John's Anglican Church York Mills, 19 Don Ridge Drive, Toronto. Interment to follow in the churchyard. Dear mother of Gary (Louise), Glenn (Valerie), and Donald. Much loved mother-in-law of Ann HARDCASTLE (née FRASER.) Grandmother of Andrea, Suzanne, Heather, James and John (Nancy). Great-grandmother of Emma and Jackson HARDCASTLE. Sister of the late Josephine RAMSAY, Sinclair and Robert MAGEE. Margaret (Peggy) lived with dignity and integrity of person, love of life and camaraderie with all whom she met. She possessed a special strength and optimism to deal with and overcome life's challenges, never complaining rather, she took her time to enjoy every moment. A great example of a full life well lived. In her 94th year she would still debate politics and buy gifts for her great-grandchildren - she will be sorely missed. Her cremated remains will be interred with husband Fred's by her family privately. LEBEDEW, Evelyn Louise (GRAHAM)
Passed away July 5th, at University Hospital, peacefully and with Ky and Deb by her side. Evelyn was born June 7, 1934 in London, Ontario. She is predeceased by her parents and husband, Paul LEBEDEW. She will be sadly missed by her children; Paul and Glenda WADDELL, Ky WADDELL and Deb ELLIOT/ELLIOTT, and Alexander and Corry LEBEDEW. Zack WADDELL will never forget the time spent together playing games and talking with his "Meme". Jan (Brad), Mike (Kim), and Chris (Natasha) have many years of laughter and fun to remember Evie by. Dawson LEBEDEW, and his sister Fiona (yet to be born), will learn of their Grandma through stories. Evelyn is survived by her siblings; Ken GRAHAM, Cheryl and Fred SMALL and Marrianne and Marvin MAGILL, John and Burt Ann WARD were special Friends, and their presence in her life these past few years was greatly celebrated by Evelyn. Evelyn spent most of her adult life in London and then Exeter where she raised her three children with unconditional love and support. During her time in Exeter, she started the first "Beavers" pack and served for many years as a leader. These were happy times for Evelyn and nothing pleased her more than watching children, her own and others enjoying themselves. She returned to London 15 years ago, when her first diagnosis of breast cancer was received. Thankfully, she had been symptom free since that early treatment, and only very recently began the battle again. She spent her last weeks at home, as was her wish. Her family offer sincere thanks to Doctor Irene COHEN for her skilled and compassionate care of Evelyn during these last weeks. The Community Care Access Centre team and the Victorian Order of Nurses palliative team were also instrumental in supporting her stay at home. Special thanks to University Hospital palliative team, especially Carolyn. Family and Friends will be received at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North on Friday, July 7th from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by The Rev. Sylvia BRIGHTWELL, will take place at Christ Anglican Church, 138 Hill Street, at Wellington, at 4: 30 p.m. on Saturday, July 8th. With great sadness we announce the passing away of Mary Patricia. Pat was the most caring wife and best friend to Edward since September 21, 1946. A stay at home loving, kind and generous mother and mother-in-law to Janet and Bruce NORMAN (Pickering, Ontario,) James and Shayne HUTTON (Toronto,) Susan GOWANS and Glen WILLIAMS (Toronto,) Stephen and Wendy HUTTON (Newmarket, Ontario,) Donna and Stephen YOUNG (Barrie, Ontario) and Deborah SUTTON (Toronto.) She was a well loved sister and sister-in-law to Arlene and James COCHRANE (Don Mills, Ontario), Gail and Pat GRIMES (Lindsay, Ontario), Judy and Ash MOHINDRA (Nepean, Ontario), Rev William and Miriam HUTTON (Winnipeg, Manitoba,) Mildred and Robert STEPHENSON (Brampton, Ontario) Ethel and late David HOLLINGSHEAD (Winnipeg, Manitoba). She enjoyed all the celebrations with her seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren along with her many nieces and nephews. She joined the Sunnybrook Volunteer Association in 1998 and has served on a number of positions.
