Peacefully at home in Kerwood on Thursday, December 21st, 2006 in his 89th year, August JANSSENS. Survived by his loving wife of 34 years Josephine. August will be sadly missed by children Michel (Maria) JANSSENS, Paul JANSSENS, Raymond (Diane) JANSSENS and Rita (Rick) LUCAN. Survived by grandchildren Michelle (Serge,) Matthew, Michael and Marcus, Lisa, Andrew, Miranda and David, Rick and Britney and great-granddaughter Olivia FERREIRA. Also survived by sister Rosalie. Also remembered by many extended family. August is predeceased by his first wife Johanna (1959), daughter Rita (1952), granddaughter Kristel (1987), four brothers and one sister. Visitation will be held at the Denning Bros. Funeral Home in Strathroy on Tuesday, December 26th, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. with a Funeral Service in the chapel on Wednesday, December 27th, at 11 a.m. with Father George CHIMBINDA officiating. Interment to follow at Strathroy Cemetery. Donations to the Strathmere Lodge Auxiliary Fund or the Saint_Joseph's Neo Natal Care Unit would be appreciated by the family. It is with deep sadness that we announce after a lengthy illness the passing of our dearly beloved Guenther THAN on Monday, January 23, 2006 at the age of sixty-five. Guenther died peacefully at his home in Brampton. Born in Neustadt, Germany on February 23, 1940, he was predeceased by his parents Erna and Richard THAN. He leaves behind his cherished daughter Janice LUCARELLI (nee THAN,) son-in-law Armando LUCARELLI, son Thomas THAN, Barbara THAN his truest and only lifelong love, as well as countless people who are proud to have called him their friend. Guenther fulfilled his childhood's dreams by beginning a family and immigrating to Canada in 1966. He had a deep appreciation for Toronto and especially its changing landscape as it developed into an international city. An accomplished and enthusiastic photographer in his later years, Guenther always had a keen eye for the beauty that surrounded him and took the opportunity of his retirement to capture this in his photography. An avid life-long reader, he enjoyed the pages of a book almost as much as the conversations they inspired. He will be greatly missed by all. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 27, 2006 at Saint John's Dixie Cemetery & Crematorium, 737 Dundas St. East (Cawthra and Dundas), Mississauga at 11: 00 a.m. followed by a celebration of his life and photography at his daughter's home in Brampton. Simone was the past secretary of the Lambton County Saddle Club, was a past member of the Eastern Star, Wyoming Chapter. Loving wife of James Manuel PRATT. Predeceased by a son Brian BOBIER (2005.) Dear brother of Grace DEKAY of London, and Doris HOLDING of Essex. Sadly missed by 9 grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. John was born in London on January 10, 1935, the son of Jessie Alberta (LUCAS) and James Ripley BOBIER. He was a retired Body Shop Manager. Passed away peacefully on February 10, 2006. Born in Montreal on March 6, 1920, Coula was the beloved sister of Helen (Eleni) LIASKOS, Mariya CHRISTIDIS and the late Dean and George SPERDAKOS. She will be forever cherished by her adoring nieces Anastasia (Tassie) CAMERON and Diane GOUZOPOULOS, Paula and Sophia SPERDAKOS, Aurora, Ophelia, Thalia CHRISTIDIS and nephew Alexander CHRISIDIS. Coula was loved by her great-nieces and great-nephews who enjoyed her unique spirit and interest in them. She is also survived by her son George TRAKAS and granddaughter Maggie TRAKAS and nieces and nephew. Coula was a wonderful woman, who brought love and joy to anyone lucky enough to spend time with her. Her sister, Eleni, knew that better than anyone, and enjoyed a special relationship with her. Their bonds were not inspired by blood alone. They loved each other's company and were simply the best of Friends. They were devoted to each other always. People were easily touched by Coula's nurturing warmth, impeccable taste and fine beauty. Her cooking was delicious enough to feed the gods and she graciously and generously shared it with many. Her nature was to heal and love people whom she met. She was an attentive listener who offered guidance without judgment, commiserating with sorrows, diffusing anger and softening the blows of disappointments. Time spent with beautiful Coula inevitably left one bolstered with confidence to move forward. Students at McGill University still remember her kind and caring ways 30 years after she was a student advisor there. Those of us who loved her are blessed with incredible memories of time spent in her company. Coula, you will be remembered, missed and forever in our hearts.

Criminals hanged back to back in Toronto's Don Jail
TURPIN, 29, of Toronto had killed a police officer in a Toronto street battle, while LUCAS, 54, of Detroit, had slashed the throats of a young woman and an American police informant. The execution was bungled. Cyril EVERITT, a Salvation Army chaplain and a witness to the hangings, said in 1986: " TURPIN went cleanly. But LUCAS, the heavier of the two, had too much rope for his weight. His head was almost torn off. He was pretty well decapitated; only the strength of the sinews in the neck kept the head attached to the body. There was blood everywhere, gushing out." It was the last execution in Canada.
