She had a loving nature and a heart as pure as gold
She always had a smiling face and a story to be told
A wonderful sense of humor and a twinkle in her eye
A helping hand in time of need, on that you could rely
Maybe we can't touch her hand or see her smiling face
And maybe we can't hear her voice or feel her warm embrace
But something we will always have, trucked safely in our hearts
Our love for her, her love for us, will never let us part

Man charged with murder
Hamilton man charged, Ottawa man dies after incident in Collingwood
By Shawn GIILCK,
Tuesday,
April 18, 2006, Page A1
Collingwood - An Ottawa man is dead and a Hamilton man faces
charges after police were called to an Elm Street home Sunday
morning.
Collingwood Ontario Provincial Police and emergency response
officials were called to the house at 7: 30 a.m.
The victim, identified as Stephen
LONG, was taken to Collingwood's
General and Marine Hospital and later transferred to Sunnybrook
Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, where he died at 11: 19 a.m.
Collingwood Ontario Provincial Police arrested Christopher Michael
BROUGHTON, 27, a short distance from the Elm Street house. The
Hamilton resident faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted
murder, Const. Tim
GARLAND said Monday afternoon. He is scheduled
to appear in Collingwood court April 25.
It was unknown Monday whether the men knew each other or what
they were doing in Collingwood.
The cause of death was not being released pending the completion
of a post-mortem Monday afternoon.
It's the second serious incident in Collingwood in a week. Last
weekend an unidentified Wasaga Beach man was found beaten on
Hurontario Street in the early morning hours. The Ontario Provincial
Police has released little information in that case and no suspects
have been identified.
Elm street remained cordoned off Monday morning as the investigation
continued.
"It's certainly disturbing," said Dana
DOYLE, who lives two houses
away from the murder scene. "It's certainly sad that it happened,
but (media) are trying to link it to the beating last weekend.
I think it's out of proportion for Collingwood."
DOYLE said he heard people speaking loudly in the back yard of
the house early Sunday morning when he took his dog out.
"I couldn't make out anything. They weren't arguing or anything
like that."
DOYLE said he was unfamiliar with the people who owned the house.
"I don't know how long they've lived there. Maybe a year or two.
I think there's a grandmother, a mother and two children who
are in their 20s."
There was a party at the house Saturday night, but
DOYLE said
he didn't hear any noise from it.
"I don't know who was at the party."
The investigation has been turned over to the Ontario Provincial
Police Criminal Investigations Branch under Det. Insp. Bernie
MURPHY.

BENNETT,
Louise
Christine (née
JONASSON)
Died peacefully Friday, March 3 at Lion's Gate Hospital, North
Vancouver, in her 81st year. Born in to an Icelandic-Canadian
family in 1925 at Winnipegosis, Manitoba, Louise was the youngest
of three daughters born to Gudmundur and Kristin
JONASSON.
Louise
remained proud of, and connected to her Icelandic heritage throughout
her life. She moved with her parents to Winnipeg, where she was
educated and graduated from Kelvin High School. Determined to
follow a career in nursing, she trained at Winnipeg General Hospital
School of Nursing. There she became known to her colleagues in
the Class of 1947 as 'The lady that's known as Lou'. The qualities
of compassion and care for others that had led her into a nursing
career remained with her throughout her life. In 1949 she married
Donald BENNETT, whom she had met at a Halloween nurses' dance
at war's end in 1945, and moved with him to Toronto. She moved
again and again following Don's work in the Canadian Broadcasting
Corporation, to Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, London, and Winnipeg.
In 1986 they moved to Vancouver in retirement. Louise was a keen
observer of nature and enjoyed experimenting with watercolours,
especially in the Gatineau Hills north of Ottawa. There she also
enjoyed trail skiing with her family, which included her daughter,
Christine, and her two sons, Alan and Peter. She excelled at
hooking rugs and enjoyed hours searching for suitable fabric
and colours in company with Friends who were also hooked on hooking
rugs. With many of these same Friends she delighted in visiting
local auction sales in the Ottawa Valley, where strange treasures
could be found. Louise was an accomplished pianist, sharing her
love of music with her family and ensuring her children all learned
to play the piano. Louise enjoyed travel, in Canada and abroad.
Motor trips with the family through Northern Ontario to the Prairies,
or east to the Maritimes or New England, were common. From Winnipeg
there were trips to Florida, Arizona and British Columbia. Abroad
there were visits to Hawaii, Australia, South East Asia, India,
North Africa, and Europe. She shared with her children and grand
children her interest in art and archaeology and in museums and
ancient sites in Italy, Greece and Egypt. Louise will be remembered
for her compassion and love of life, her patience and devotion
to her family and her tender and loving ways. She will forever
be known by her beloved granddaughters as 'gramma sweetheart',
always wishing that everyone should 'have a nice time.' She will
never be forgotten and always be missed by those who love her.
Surviving to mourn the loss of a wonderful partner, a loving
mother and grandmother, are her husband Donald; her sons Alan
(Nanette) and Peter (Deborah;) and daughter Christine
LONG
(Peter)
granddaughters Tamara, Corinne, and Sydney; grand_sons Adam and

Also surviving are Louise's sister Sylvia Allen
ROSS
(Dave)
of Winnipeg; brother-in-law Douglas

brother Howard (Marjorie) and twin sisters Ellen
DERKSEN

SHELDRICK, Audrey Vivian "Bobby" (née
CANNING)
Passed away in her 93rd year on Monday, October 30th, 2006, at
Bridgepoint Health Centre. Audrey joins her late husband Ted,
who predeceased her in June 1985. Loving mother of Teddene
LONG
and her husband Robert, Marsha
ELY and her husband Alan. Grandmother
of Bradley, and his wife Denise, Janelle and her husband Rob
LONG,
Carly
ELY, Claudine and her husband Ryan
ADLINGTON. Great-grandmother
of Ainsley and Carson
LONG.
Audrey was a special lady, who enjoyed
each day. She selflessly gave to those around her and always
found the positives in her Friends and family. She had a wonderful
life journey and we were all fortunate to share it with her.
She will truly be missed as she was "the wind beneath our wings".
As a teacher, Audrey often remarked "a hundred years from now
it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of home
I lived in, or the kind of car I drove. But, the world may be
a little better because I was important in the life of a child".
We seem to give them back to you, O God, You who gave them to
us, Yet as you did not lose them in giving So do we not lose
them by their return… And life is eternal and love is immortal
and death is only a horizon and an horizon is nothing save the
limit of our sight. Lift us up, strong
son of God that we may
see further; cleanse our eyes that we may see more clearly. Draw
us closer to yourself that we may know ourselves to be nearer
our loved ones who are with you. A memorial service will be held
on Thursday November 2nd at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge
Street, followed immediately by a reception. In lieu of flowers,
if desired, donations can be made in memory of Audrey to Unicef,
2200 Yonge Street 416-482-0105.
