Of Sarnia, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 4, 2006 in the Cape Coral, Florida hospital. Faye, as she wished to be called, sustained a heart attack at home on January 31, 2006 and never regained consciousness. Born in Saint Marys, resident of Sarnia, and Florida "snowbird", she touched the hearts of many. Faye greatly enjoyed her work in the travel industry. Survivors include her parents, Leonard LAVELLE of Saint Marys, Helen Kurtz MITCHELL of London, sister Elizabeth "Betty" (Mrs. Fred DUBRICK) of Sebringville and two brothers, James and wife Jeanne of St. Clair, Michigan and William and wife Jill of Edmonton, son Ritchard BATTEN of Calgary, daughter Lisa BATTEN of Sebringville, granddaughter Kayleigh of Victoria, British Columbia, and step-children Scott KIRBY of Clovis, California, Reed KIRBY of San Diego, California, Allison PRYHARSKI of Culver City, California, and her husband, Major H. KIRBY, Jr. (Hank) of Cape Coral, Florida. Faye who derived great pleasure planning and participating in cruises most recently participated in a three week venture over Christmas and New Years from Ft. Lauderdale to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil with stops at four Caribbean Islands, Devi's Island and five Brazilian ports. He and his wife Breda farmed in the Embro area for 45 years, retiring to Stratford. Beloved husband of Brigid (BREDA) BAKER whom he married as a war bride in England May 28, 1945. She predeceased him November 9, 2005. Loving father of Deirdre and her husband Grant MONTEITH, Michael BAKER, Gregory BAKER and his wife Martha, David BAKER and his wife Debbie. Lovingly remembered by 13 grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife he was predeceased by a sister Betty TOLMAN and her husband Ted. Family will receive Friends at the W.G. Quietly and with dignity, Ken ended his long battle with skin cancer at Ian Anderson House in Oakville, on Tuesday, April 18, 2006. Ken is survived by Joan (LANGFORD,) his loving and caring wife of 48 years and his children, Shawn, Joanne (Jim KARAISKAKIS,) Stephen (Terri LAVERY) and Kathy (Ted LABRANCHE.) 'Papa' will also be missed by his devoted grandchildren Jennifer, Alexandra, Joshua, Joffre Reid and William. Ken only wishes he could have enjoyed them when he was younger. Born in London, Ontario in 1930, the only child of Ernest Anderson LAVERY and Norma Loretta REID, Ken began his multitude of careers as a deckhand. This experience led him to realize the importance of education so he took on a job as a tobacco primer to finance his future education. After his service in Germany with the 27th Infantry Brigade and working as short order chef, Ken continued his commitment to lifelong learning as he worked through careers as teacher, devoted husband, author, proud father, managing partner of Touche Ross and P Ross. S. and Partners, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Brewers Association of Canada, and caring grandfather. Finally, Ken initiated a successful class action suit in the United Kingdom versus Cuthbert Heath, 418 Merrett Insurance Syndicate and Ernst and Whinny leading to Lloyd's of London making an offer for 'final' settlement of all outstanding litigation accepted by over 35,000 Names; but not this one. Well travelled and a member of many professional associations and societies, Ken had Friends and colleagues all around the world. Regardless of the many international places he visited, Ken's favourite places were found in his own backyard: Hardy Bay, Mississauga Golf Club, Saint_James Oyster Bar, Royal Montreal and Ottawa Golf Clubs, Rideau Club Billiards Room, Caledon Mountain Trout Club, East India Club, The Ocean Club (Stuart, Florida) and fishing for sail off the St. Lucie Inlet. Other favorite passions included the Forum for Young Canadians and Trudeau Liberals. Visitation to be held at P.X. Jack BURK/BURKE died at home in peace, after fighting cancer for many years with dignity and courage. He was the much loved husband of Winifred; cherished father of Sandra, Jacqueline, Patrice (Jay HITCHON,) Glen and Pamela, inspirational grandfather and proud Poppa of Tanya (Kevin LAVIE), Jackson, Tara, Taylor, Jamie and John and joyful, great-grandfather of Lexa and Liam. Eldest brother of Frank (Blanche), Shirley, Vern (Marcella) and Larry (Margaret Rose). He was born October 10, 1924 in Erieau, Ontario and was the son of Vera and Glen BURK/BURKE. Jack was a distinguished veteran of World War 2, Royal Canadian Air Force officer, Lancaster 428 Ghost Squadron. He bravely joined at the young age of sixteen and returned with his beloved partner for life, Winifred PROCTER. Jack was the original "good guy", his huge smile and generous spirit will live on in many hearts. During his life Jack was Director of Transport for Miracle Food Mart, Past President of the Windsor Transportation Club, Past Chairman of the Essex-Kent District Canadian Industrial Traffic League. He loved life and loved learning; as his body failed his mind remained strong, he watched the news and did his crosswords until his last days. His belief in heaven and God provided him with comfort and in the end he welcomed the arms of his angel to carry him on. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his family.
