Of Saint Thomas, formerly of Port Stanley and Georgetown, passed away at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Thursday, October 12, 2006, in her 74th year. Wife of the late George Herbert "Herb" KEWLEY (2002.) Mother of Ted and his wife Cheryl of Cambridge, Beth STRONG of Port Stanley, and Herb and his partner Charity DUCKWORTH of Saint Thomas. Grandmother of Kristin, Edward, Sheena, William, Steven, Wesley and Renee. Sister of Alice LAINO and her husband Tony of Ohio, late Joe SYKES and late Eddie SYKES (his wife Nancy of London). Also survived by several in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. Born in Ayr, Scotland, February 8, 1933, the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (NEILL) SYKES. Mrs. KEWLEY formerly taught mathematics and coached various sports at Georgetown District High School. Friends will be received by the family at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas on Sunday afternoon from 2-5 p.m. where the funeral service will be held Monday at 11: 00 a.m. Following cremation, interment in Christ Churchyard (Anglican), Port Stanley. Of London, widow of Hans peacefully passed away on June 24th, 2006 at London Health Sciences Centre Victoria Hospital with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer in her 80th year. Cherished and devoted mother to Madeleine (Art) LAIR, Norman (Juliana) and Rita. She will be remembered by her grandchildren Roger (Alison) LAIR, Sherry-Lynn (Phil) FREEMAN, William (Kristie) JOLLIFFE, Katherine (David) ADAM/ADAMS, Christopher, Lance and Scott. Bill LAIRD of Sutton, formerly of Keswick, beloved husband of Joan (McDONOUGH) and the late Judy (née ROLLO, 1993.) Dear father of Andy LAIRD and his wife Lori of Keswick and Karen LAIRD of Toronto. Grandfather of Nicole and Amanda. Step-father of Christopher McDONOUGH (Grace) and Kelly YORKE (Paul) and their children. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he came to Canada at the age of 19 years. He worked in the insurance industry for 51 years, both in Toronto and later as owner of Laird and Laird Insurance Brokerage in Keswick. Bill gave many years of public and charitable service as York Region Public School Trustee, Ward Councillor for the Town of Georgina, active as a Big Brother, started the first minor soccer league in Georgina, and served on the executive of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 356, Sutton.
