AVRUSKIN,
Stanley
James
Died suddenly on October 1, 2006 in his 71st year. He leaves
his wife of 40 wonderful years, Bernice
KRAFCHIK.
Caring father
to Hayley (Phil), Adam, Vanessa, and Gillian (Giorgos). Papa
to Jake and Harry. Brother to twin Ted (Marilyn) and Arlene
SOLES.
Recognized in courtrooms and jails across Ontario by his long
silver hair, beard, and big black hat, Stan passionately championed
the rights of young offenders. Respected by his peers and lauded
by his clients, he creatively defended people since graduating
from Osgoode Hall over forty years ago. The self-proclaimed 'Willie
Nelson of the defense bar', Stan approached life with a twinkle
in his eyes, a good-hearted nature and quirky humour. He socialized
with judges, cowboys and street buskers befriending people from
all walks of life. A 'western' scholar, influenced by Jesse James,
Johnny Cash and the Highway Men, Stan always walked the line.
He was a devoted husband and a caring father who will be deeply
missed. The service and celebration of his life will be held
on Wednesday, October 4th at 11 o'clock in York Reception Centre,
160 Beecroft Rd. (Yonge Street, north of Shepherd, west on North
York Blvd., 416 221-3404). Friends and family are welcome at
162 Beechwood Avenue following the service on Wednesday and anytime
on Thursday. In memory of Stan, please say 'Howdy' and give a
little something (food, coffee, a little money) to a person living
on the streets of downtown Toronto. Say it's from the man with
the big black hat.

KENNEDY,
Kathleen
Helen (née
KRAFFT)
Age 87, passed away peacefully at her home April 8, 2006, with
her three loving daughters by her side. Gracious and kind, lover
of music, Kay has joined her beloved husband, Doug, in Heaven.
Kay felt truly blessed by her large, close-knit family, which
included four children: Sue
ROGERS (Robert), Ottawa, John
KENNEDY
(Virginia BARNES,)
Australia,
Pat
BOND (Robert,) Mississauga,
and Janet GRAHAM
(Brian)
Grimsby.
Her 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren
were the joy and pride of her life. Born and raised in Cayuga,
Ontario, Kay (Kathy), at the tender age of 16, was the organist
at her beloved Church of Saint_John the Divine, and later went
on to the University of Guelph where she and Doug met and then
married soon after graduation. Typical of many young couples
in the forties, Kay and Doug lived through the hardships of war
and poverty as they began their young family. (Their first Thanksgiving
dinner was a pigeon that Doug shot on the family farm!) With
wisdom and devotion, Kay rose to the challenge of being a politician's
wife in the years from 1967 to 1985, when Doug served as Conservative
M.P.P. for Mississauga South. World travel was a significant
part of their 63 rich and fulfilling years together, and included
trips to countries such as Australia, Africa, and China. Many
dear Friends and extended family reaped the benefits of her warm
and generous hospitality demonstrated by her wonderful home-cooked
meals, lots of laughter, and enjoyment of card games and scrabble.
To the surprise of her family, in her last few years she took
up playing pool. Kathleen lived her faith with dignity and by
patient example, as she herself had been nurtured. A legacy for
us all. The family would like to especially thank the staff at
the Regency Retirement Home for their loving kindness. Kathleen
had a real place in her heart for Moorelands Camp, www.moorelands.org

organizations would honour her memory. Visitation will be at

(1 block west of Hurontario St.), Mississauga (parking off Ann St.)
on Tuesday, April 11th from 7-9 p.m. There will be a Memorial

VANDERVELDE,
René
Martinus (1935-2006)
René Martinus
VANDERVELDE passed away at the age of 70 on Friday,
April 7, 2006 after a long, courageous, and determined battle
with prostate cancer. His great love of life, expansive spirit
and sense of humour touched everyone who knew him. René was born
May 12, 1935 in Leeuwarden, in the Dutch province of Frysland.
He spent much of the German occupation of Holland on the Harmsma
farm in Joure, Holland. René's secondary education began with
a degree in Hotel Management in Holland. Continuing his studies
in Canada, he earned his M.B.A. from the University of Windsor
in Ontario. René married Claudette
DEMERS and had two daughters,
Gabrielle and Nadine. The family later moved to Alberta where
he worked as District Manager of Versafood Services. René's life
took an unexpected turn in the mid-seventies, while looking for
fossils. After coming across the little known fossilized gemstone
Ammolite, René traded his chef's cap for a white cotton slouch
hat and took to fossilhunting full time. René developed and owned
the Natural History Museum in Banff until 1981. Korite was purchased
