Beloved mother of her children Theresa GUILLEMETTE (Gary), Donald (Vicki), Cathy KELLY (Jack,) of Prince Edward Island, Penny MacDONALD (Robert,) Michael, Shawn (Christine), Bruce (Ann) of Kitchener. She also is the much loved grandmother of Angela GATHERCOLE, Laura McKAY, Sandra BROWN, Gary GUILLEMETTE, Elizabeth FAIR, Racheal MacDONALD, John and David KELLY, Bradley, Stephen, Meagan, Patrick, Cameron and Heather MacKINNON. Shirley is the great-grandmother of eight. She is survived by her brother Edward and sister Jane. She is predeceased by her parents Edward and Mary MADDOCK and six sisters and three brothers. Friends will be received at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 30 Nelson Street on Friday, April 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, April 8 at 9: 30 a.m. Interment to follow Mount Hope Cemetery. Marie CURTIS passed away peacefully at her residence at Grey Gables, Markdale on Sunday, March 12, 2006 in her 90th year.
Ann Marie McCARTHY was born February 10, 1912 near Wyebridge, Ontario in the Midland area. Marie was the daughter of Ellen (MITCHELL) and John McCARTHY. She was the sister of May, Margaret, Gerard, John, Malcolm and Theresa.
Marie▲▼ married Bryce CURTIS, June 17, 1933 in Toronto. They moved to Long Branch in 1935 where they raised their daughter Joan and son Bill. They moved to their farm in Kimberley in 1958 then to their residence on the West Back Line between Flesherton and Markdale. Marie and Bryce were happily married for 55 years when Bryce passed away in 1988.
Joan married Tom McGEE of Flesherton in 1961 and Marie was the much loved Nana of Kelly (Dale) MERRIFIELD, Kimberley McGEE- JACKSON (Chad JACKSON), Kerry, Paul CURTIS, Dawn (Kevin) KELLY, precious great-nana of ten great-grandchildren. Bill predeceased her in 1987 as did her grand_son Michael McGEE in 1989.
Marie CURTIS was Reeve of the Village of Long Branch from 1953-1962, a charter member of Metropolitan Toronto Council, friend of Fred GARDINER and many other politicians. Marie Curtis Park in Etobicoke (Long Branch) was opened in 1959, and named in her honour for the work she did to help the residents relocate after Hurricane Hazel in 1954. Today it is a living memory to a wonderful lady. Marie CURTIS was secretary-treasurer of the Ontario Mayors and Reeves, spokesperson and advocate to the members of Grey County Council in the 1960s and 1970s. She was an Honourary Lifetime Member of the Long Branch Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 101. Marie was an A.M.O. 100th Anniversary Municipal Recognition Award recipient, in appreciation of her exemplary service to Ontario's municipal governments and A.M.O.
When Marie could no longer stay in her own home, she moved to Grey Gables in 1999 and made it her own new home. She loved everyone there and they loved her.
The body rested at Gentle Shepherd Community Church where the funeral was held Thursday, March 16 with interment in Markdale Cemetery. A celebration of the life of Marie CURTIS was well attended by Friends and relatives from far and wide. A power point presentation on Marie CURTIS "The Woman Who Got Things Done" was shown. A duet by her granddaughters Kelly MERRIFIELD and Kimberley McGEE- JACKSON was sung "It Is No Secret" was Marie's favourite hymn. Jim HARROLD, former Reeve of Artemesia Township, gave some remembrances and reflections of Marie. Kimberley sang "You Raise Me Up" and daughter Joan McGEE gave memories of Mom. Rev. Don PRINCE gave a thoughtful message. The ladies of Gentle Shepherd served a bountiful lunch following the service.
Pallbearers were grand_sons Chad JACKSON and Dale MERRIFIELD, nephew John McCARTHY, former Reeve Murray BETTS, family friend David CARLSON, former neighbour Raymond SHILVOCK. Flowerbearers were granddaughters Kelly MERRIFIELD and Kimberley McGEE- JACKSON and great-grandchildren Curtis, Jacob and Kirsten MERRIFIELD.
Marie CURTIS was a great lady and will be missed by many far and wide.

She▼ entered the Ursuline Religious of the Diocese of London in 1942. During those years she served the Ursuline Community as a nurse at "The Pines", London, Calgary, Drumheller and Windsor. Sister was Pastoral Visitor in Edmonton from 1979-1984 and then returned to Glengarda, Windsor and worked as a Pastoral Visitor at the Windsor Western Hospital. Sister Veronica moved to Chatham in 1995. She is survived by siblings Louis DESMARTEAUX and Anne Louise TINDALL. Sister is predeceased by a brother Louis (Bud) and twin sister Justine, and step-mother Anne DESMARTEAUX. A lifelong Sarnia area resident, Barbara was a well known artist and doll maker. She was an avid fund raiser and supporter of the Sarnia Humane Society and volunteered her assistance with the organization of the art auction for the Canadian Mental Health Association. SMITH (1962) and Sadie (née GRAY/GREY) (1935) and sister Irene (1944). Bernice was the beloved wife of the late C. Murray LOGAN (1993) of Crumlin. Cherished and loving mother of Bob LOGAN and his wife Linda of London. Also loved by grand_son Michael LOGAN and his mother Viviane. Fondly remembered by Linda's daughter Amanda McWHA. She is also survived by sisters Ruby (Reginald HOLLEY) and Lillian JOLLIFFE (wife of the late Ewart JOLLIFFE 1997.) Peacefully, at home, Norman Ralph ANDERSON, at the age of 84, Loving husband and dear friend of Valerie (TAILOR/TAYLOR) SMITH. Norm was blessed with three marriages throughout his life. His first marriage was to Patricia (SMITH) ANDERSON of London, England, whom he met while stationed in Surrey during the war. Loved father of their twin daughters Norma and her husband Jim SMITH of Ireland and Dierdre LLOYD of Manchester, along with son Sean and his wife Rasaline ANDERSON, London, United Kingdom and their mother Patricia. Norm was then married to Gloria HALLIWELL for over thirty years until her death in 1990, and was much loved and respected by their son David and his wife Sara ANDERSON of Camlachie. Step-father to Gloria's children Linda and husband Lee McQUIRTER of Sarnia and Len and his wife Maureen GLANFIELD of British Columbia. Norm also enjoyed becoming step-father to Val's children, Shelly and her husband Laurence LOVEGROVE, Petrolia, Terry SMITH, Strathroy, and Julie and her husband Dale KELLY of Forest. Much loved grandfather of 12 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by wife Gloria (1990) and granddaughter Lauren Gloria ANDERSON (2000.) Norm was born on July 17th, 1921 at Ochre River, Manitoba, to Ralph Waldo ANDERSON (1955) and Margaret YOUNG, who died when Norm was 5 years old. His grandmother Eliza YOUNG (1973), whom Norm highly respected and loved dearly, stepped in to raise him and his siblings, George (1991), Ross (1972), Marguerite and Malcolm (1987) MacDONALD of Sarnia, and William and his wife Ida, also of Sarnia. Norm's father re-married Jessie DALGHIESH (1985) and had two sons, Norm's half brothers James (1984) and Gerald and his wife Gladys of Trenton. At the age of 16, Norm went to Malartic, Quebec to work in the gold mines with his father. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1941 in Noranda, Quebec and went overseas in September. He was on Active Service in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, including the D-Day landings on Juno Beach. He returned to Canada in '45 and worked in the mines until coming to Sarnia in '50 to work in the insulation business, mainly building the plants in the Chemical Valley, eventually purchasing Commercial and Industrial Insulation in '76 and selling it in '82. He owned and developed Forest Golf and Country Hotel from '58 til '89. Not liking retirement, together with his son David, he purchased and developed Bonnie Doon Golf and Country Club. Norm loved sports. He played hockey when he was young and of course enjoyed golf. He was a great curler and a Lifetime Member of the Forest Curling Club. In later years he was a great spectator, especially whenever Dale and Julie played. Norm lived a very full life. Beneath the often gruff exterior lay a heart of gold, one to which is much-loved grandchildren and step-grandchildren can attest. He had many Friends and was a good husband and father. He did a lot of good in the community that no one ever new about. Resting at the Ronn E. Dodge Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 9 James Street South at Watt (Forest) Lambton Shores. Visitation Sunday 2-4 and 7-9. Legion Parade Sunday evening at 6: 45 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday, February 20, 2006 at 11: 00 a.m. at Forest United Church with Reverend Cathy LARMOND officiating. BAECHLER, Margaret (formerly KELLY, née RUSSELL)
On Tuesday April 4, 2006, Margaret BAECHLER of Goderich in her 93rd year. She was born in Morris Township, Huron County, on November 14, 1913, the daughter of Alex RUSSELL and Florence STOREY. She graduated in Nursing at Saint_Joseph's Hospital, London, and from Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal in Obstetrics. After graduation she had a long and rewarding career at Saint_Joseph's Hospital in London where she was head Nurse in the Delivery Room for many years. She distinguished herself in her field and was recognized for her excellence when she retired from her position at Saint_Joseph's Hospital in 1964. The Margaret Russell Trust Fund was established by a group of doctors at Saint_Joseph's Hospital to provide a prize for the student obtaining the highest grade in Obstetrics in their graduation year. She married Doctor John KELLY on June 24, 1964. They resided in Brussels until his untimely death in November of 1965. On June 24, 1989 Margaret married John Edward "Ted" BAECHLER of Goderich. Mr. BAECHLER predeceased Margaret in January of 2003. Margaret was also predeceased by her brother Lewis RUSSELL and sisters Catherine "Kate" WILSON and Clara HAIG. She is survived by one sister Hannah WEISS of Florida and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. With dignity and grace, Dorothy Lillian Chadwick left behind the pain and suffering of a lengthy and brave battle with cancer. She was surrounded by the love of her family, on November 30th, 2006 when she peacefully passed. Beloved wife of the late Leonard CHADWICK, loving mother to Russell, Robert, and Deborah, special mother-in-law to Lynne and Scott, and precious grandmother to Maranda, Summer and Chelsea. Predeceased by brothers Fred and James STRUCKETT, and sister Joan STRUCKETT. She had a strong spirit and wonderful way of seeing the good in everything and everyone. Her wisdom, compassion and unselfish love were felt by all that were blessed to know her. The family wishes to thank the wonderful nurses and caregivers from Saint Elizabeth and Physical Relief for their kindness and support. Marie▲▼ CURTIS was Reeve of the Village Long Branch from 1953-1962, a charter member of the Metropolitan Toronto Council, secretary-treasurer of the Mayors and Reeves of Ontario, Honorary Lifetime Member of the Long Branch Royal Canadian Legion, spokesperson and advisor to members of the Grey County Council in the 1960's and 70's and is best remembered for the City of Toronto Park named in her honour for the support role she played in relief efforts after Hurricane Hazel in 1954. The family will receive Friends at Gentle Shepherd Community Church (8th concession and Inkerman Street), Eugenia, on Tuesday, March 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of the life of Marie CURTIS will be held at the church on Wednesday, March 15 at 1: 00 p.m. Interment Markdale Cemetery. Mary taught her children, John QUIGLEY, Ted▲ QUIGLEY, Caroline QUIGLEY, Meg▲ and Gerry HAWKINS, Therese QUIGLEY, Patrick QUIGLEY and Daniel QUIGLEY, that compassion for others is the greatest virtue and expression of a true love of God. Norman KELLY died peacefully at home to join his beloved wife, Helen, of 60 years in the fourth mansion on the right just inside the Pearly Gates. Norm served both his country in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War 2, and his community as a family doctor. On January 1, 2006, the golfing and curling world lost one of its biggest fans, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa Hospital, due to a stroke. Widow of the late Fred MOORE; long term employee of Hilti Canada and enthusiastic member of Streetsville and Calerin Golf Clubs; wonderful mother to Russ MOORE and wife Audrey, Karen HOUSTON and partner Peter KELLY. Mom was not only the 87 year old matriarch, but the perfect example of how to live life to the fullest to a large family of grandchildren: Kathy and Robert BROWN, Chris and Hiro URABE, Linda and Jeff WRIGHT, Leslie LEVERE and Tim SMITH, and to her great-grandchildren: Alex and Ian BROWN Tara, Erik, Kyra, and Ryan URABE; Sara and Hannah WRIGHT; Tyler, Rebecca and Tara LEVERE and Megan SMITH. Mom lived with zest, humour, curiosity, fearlessness and most of all, integrity. She will be greatly missed by all her family including her sister Dorothy, cousin Joyce and others, and many nieces, nephews and Friends, especially dear friend Trudy. Her latest joy was her adored kitten Sweetie who brought her comfort and smiles. Thank you to the 8th floor staff at Lakeridge Oshawa for their compassion and care. Cremation has taken place. Peacefully at her residence, Grey Gables, Markdale on Sunday, March▲ 12, 2006 in her 95th year. Ann Marie McCARTHY was the beloved wife of 55 years to the late Bryce CURTIS (1988.) Much loved by her daughter Joan and her husband Tom McGEE of Flesherton. Beloved Nana of Kelly (Dale) MERRIFIELD, Kimberley McGEE- JACKSON (Chad JACKSON), Kerry, Paul CURTIS, Dawn (Kevin) KELLY and precious Great-Nana of 10 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her son Bill▲ (1987,) grand_son Michael McGEE (1989,) sisters May HAYES, Margaret BALDWIN, Theresa▲ HAYES, and brothers Gerard, John, and Malcolm McCARTHY. Marie▲ CURTIS was Reeve of the Village Long Branch from 1953-1962, a charter member of the Metropolitan Toronto Council, secretary-treasurer of the Mayors and Reeves of Ontario, Honorary Lifetime Member of the Long Branch Royal Canadian Legion, spokesperson and advisor to members of the Grey County Council in the 1960's and 70's and is best remembered for the City of Toronto Park named in her honour for the support role she played in relief efforts after Hurricane Hazel in 1954. The family will receive Friends at Gentle Shepherd Community Church (8th Concession and Inkerman St.), Eugenia on Tuesday, March 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of the life of Marie Curtis will be held at the church on Wednesday, March 15 at 1: 00 p.m. Interment Markdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Centre Grey Health Services Foundation or Gentle Shepherd Community Church would be gratefully appreciated.
