Skier dies after hitting tree
Man succumbed to injuries after being airlifted to Toronto

Even though nearly 5,000 people took to the slopes at Mount St. Louis Moonstone resort Sunday, no witnesses: have come forward with information about the death of a skier.
Most people would have been heading home, since the accident occurred around 3 p.m., said general manager Rob HUTER, who, nonetheless, added he was surprised no one saw the accident.
It was a perfect day for skiing. The snow was smooth and groomed, he said, and there was great visibility.
Richard BISHOP, 58, was coming down the Tiroler run, a low intermediate course that is hugged by trees.
A ski patroller found the Scarborough man, who had struck a tree in the row of greenery on the left side of the run.
The patroller called for a trauma kit, and a snow machine went up with staff.
Andre HUTER, director of operations at the resort, said four patrollers were on the scene within minutes.
They performed first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and, by the time BISHOP was brought to the bottom of the hill, an ambulance had arrived.
The ambulance took BISHOP to Barrie's Royal Victoria Hospital. He was then airlifted to Toronto's Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre. BISHOP died of his injuries Monday.
“The gentleman had vital signs when he left here, but we knew it was serious because of his head injury,” HUTER said, mentioning there was blood at the scene.
HUTER said they are waiting for more information on what caused the crash.
“We've had another case where someone had a massive coronary and skied off the run,” he said.
A post-mortem examination was performed in Toronto yesterday morning, but police are not releasing any information.
“We're waiting on information so we can figure out if it was a skiing error or a medical condition,” HUTER said.
“We haven't had something like this happen for years. It's an unfortunate accident.&rdquo

Passed away on Friday, January 6, 2006 at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital in his 86th year. Beloved husband of the late Marguerite (née CARROLL) for nearly 60 years. He leaves Glenn and his wife Maureen of Cobourg and Lea Anne and her husband David ZIELONKO of Huntsville and predeceased by his daughter Susan who had battled Cystic Fibrosis and son Gary. Also left behind daughter-in-law Daphne McKELLAR of Vancouver and son-in-law Sherwin HUTH of Toronto. Dear grandfather of Sarah, Kaileah, Andrea, Elizabeth, Cameron, Christopher, Cory, Katya, and Hannah. Norm served overseas in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War 2, returning to Ontario to study and eventually become a Chartered Accountant. Highlights of his professional life included being General Manager of Canadian Electrical Distributors and co-founder of Spence Electrical Products Company Ltd., and in retirement he was an avid golfer and gardener. A Memorial Service to celebrate Norm McKELLAR's life will be held at the Huntsville Alliance Church, 15 Main St. West (Main and Lorne Sts.) on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 1 o'clock, with reception to follow. With great sadness we announce the passing away of Mary Patricia. Pat was the most caring wife and best friend to Edward since September 21, 1946. A stay at home loving, kind and generous mother and mother-in-law to Janet and Bruce NORMAN (Pickering, Ontario,) James and Shayne HUTTON (Toronto,) Susan GOWANS and Glen WILLIAMS (Toronto,) Stephen and Wendy HUTTON (Newmarket, Ontario,) Donna and Stephen YOUNG (Barrie, Ontario) and Deborah SUTTON (Toronto.) She was a well loved sister and sister-in-law to Arlene and James COCHRANE (Don Mills, Ontario), Gail and Pat GRIMES (Lindsay, Ontario), Judy and Ash MOHINDRA (Nepean, Ontario), Rev William and Miriam HUTTON (Winnipeg, Manitoba,) Mildred and Robert STEPHENSON (Brampton, Ontario) Ethel and late David HOLLINGSHEAD (Winnipeg, Manitoba). She enjoyed all the celebrations with her seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren along with her many nieces and nephews. She joined the Sunnybrook Volunteer Association in 1998 and has served on a number of positions. Loving mother of Shirley and her husband Murray MacALPINE of Wasaga Beach, Jane and her husband Vernon AVERY of Little Britain, Marlene and her husband Ken NICHOLLS of Lindsay, and Heather and her husband Wayne COCKBURN of Lindsay. John was the proud grandfather of Lindsay (Matt) BOUWMEESTER; Greg and Jennifer HUTTON; Shannon, Paul and Brianna FITZGERALD; Jack and Elizabeth MARRIN and Myles and Heidi MARRIN and great grandfather of Nicholas and Natalie BOUWMEESTER. Also survived by his brother Joseph; sisters Sister Mary Rose MARRIN, C.S.J. and Sister Anne Marie MARRIN, C.S.J. John was predeceased by his brothers James and Rev. Patrick MARRIN.
