HOWORTH, Michael Joseph
Passed away peacefully at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg, Ontario, surrounded by the love of his family, on November 4, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 14, 1942, in Toronto, Ontario, to John and Dorothy HOWORTH, he was the youngest of nine children. A man of many talents: executive, university professor, athlete, intellectual and great friend to many. Left with rich memories are loving spouse Patti McGLONE, sons John Cassidy (wife Ruth) and Matthew (wife Nada), sisters Rosemary, Adelyn GRAVES (Ottawa) and Louise COGGINS, and grandchildren Jessica, Lauren, Carter and Emma. While attending the University of Toronto, Michael began working with the Toronto Catholic Children's Aid Society, a job which proved to be the beginning of a career devoted to helping others. Upon completion of graduate studies at the University of Toronto, Michael spent years as a university professor, followed by roles as National Executive Director of each of Big Brothers of Canada, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Canada, and, for the past 12 years, the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada. A leader by nature, Michael was known for his keen intellect and strong work ethic, but he was also a good listener with a big, infectious laugh and vibrant sense of humour. A 'Fine Christian Gentleman'. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses of the palliative care unit of Northumberland Hills Hospital for their kind and dedicated care. In her 95th year in Montreal on May 18, 2006. Beloved wife of 57 years to the late Henry. Ellen was a loving wife and mother, and loyal friend who courageously faced persecution, war, and the difficulties of immigrant life with grace, honour, and determination. She was an inspiration and guiding light to her three loving sons, whom she was proud to point out all of lead successful professional lives: Thomas (Pamela WISHART,) David (Joy HOWSE,) Anthony (Martha MEDLAND.) She was a great and positive influence on her seven cherished grandchildren: Mark (Marie ROSE,) Darien, Allyson, Jessica, Jonah (Lorna), Theo and Trevor. Her four beautiful and energetic great-grandchildren are Jacob, Reid, Declan, and Mika. A baby girl is due June 6th. She will be missed by Carole ADLEY, her nieces, nephews, and Friends. A Memorial Celebration will be held at the Highland Park Visitation/Reception Centre (2510 Bensfort Road, at River Road South, 745-6984) on Monday, March 27, 2006 at 2: 00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 1: 00 until 2:00 p.m. If so desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Peterborough Theatre Guild. Suddenly at his residence in Guelph on Thursday, January 12, 2006. David L. HOWTING of Guelph in his 54th year. Dear son of Marjorie and Harold HOWTING of London. Loving brother of Alan HOWTING of Trenton, Beverly HOWTING of London, Colleen (Dale) DORION of Banff, Alberta and Jane (Gregg) MAXWELL of Calgary, Alberta. Also survived by his nieces and nephews Danny DORION, Reid and Erin MAXWELL, Douglas, Melissa, Benjamin and Stephanie HOWTING. Predeceased by his brother Paul (1959.) Cremation has taken place. A Private memorial service will be held in the chapel of the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South on Friday, January 20, 2006. Interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. As an expression of sympathy donations to Stoney Creek Baptist Church, 2225 Highbury Avenue North, London N5X 4A4 would be appreciated by the family. The family of the late Vera LEWIS thank relatives and Friends for flowers, cards, telephone calls, and donations made in Mom's honour during our recent bereavement. Thank you to the caring staff at Ashwood Manor, Lambeth, who provided a warm and friendly residence for Vera (she enjoyed each and everyone of you); to the outstanding nursing staff at Ashwood; to Eileen REYNOLDS who gave Mom the care she needed (we are so grateful so you, Chris, Judy, Marlyn and Wanda;) to Mary DUCHARME of Community Care Access Centre; to the minister Charles SCOTT and son, Jim, who made the service so personal; to the organist, Ross MacDONALD to the caterer, Barb MEADES who provided a delicious luncheon after the service; to the exceptional staff at Westview Funeral Chapel; to Geri DOERR, the staff and Board of Directors, Chelsea Green Children's Centre, who sent flowers, donations and food to Shirley RIORDAN, who wrote a special poem for Aunt Vera; and to all the Friends, relatives and caregivers who attended the service and those who traveled from out of town. A very special thank you to Doctor Albert MOK who made special visits to Vera during her last few weeks. Doctor MOK has taken care of our family for many years and is always there for us. Our heartfelt gratitude to him and Bev HOWTING. To everyone who took part in celebrating Vera's life, a very sincere thank you. Richard, Linda and Family.
