Of Saint Thomas, beloved wife of Robert Doan, passed away at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, in her 73rd year. Loving mother of Sheri HILL and her partner Phil HOUGH, and Alan DOAN and his partner Jodie BOYD, all of Saint Thomas. Cherished grandmother of Adam and Jaden HILL, Shaye, Amber and Riley DOAN. Dear sister of Rena SRIGLEY, Fay McELROY and her husband Rod, all of London, and the late Marion WILCOX (2002). Also remembered by several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Born in Saint Thomas, September 18, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Orton E. "Al" and Fern (NEAR) DAWDY. Friends will be received at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas on Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1: 30 p.m. Interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. HOUGH, Dorothy Marie (née ZINN)
It is with great sadness we announce that Dorothy Marie HOUGH passed away on July 9, 2006 in Southwestern Alberta in her 90th year after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She moved to Alberta in August, 2005 to be with her son Tom and daughter-in-law Joan. Born January 21, 1917 to William and Ida ZINN (both deceased,) in Saint Thomas, Ontario where she lived most of her life with the exception of several years each in Pt. Stanley, Leamington and London. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene Aubrey HOUGH in 1989 and by daughter Nancy Carol BRITTAIN in 1974. Also predeceased by brothers, Floyd, Harvey and sister Marjorie BROWN as well as two grand_sons, Floyd and Steven. Dorothy will be sincerely missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Gerald HOUGH of Scarborough, Ontario, Sally and husband Howard FREED of Bothwell, Ontario And Thomas HOUGH and wife Joan of Pincher Creek area of Alberta. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by brothers Harold ZINN, Burley ZINN and sister Muriel LEE, a number of nieces and nephews and many, many loving Friends. To all of those who sent such wonderful cards and letters and made so many phone calls during her illness, the Family says "Thank You!". She very much looked forward to and enjoyed each and every one. Cremation having taken place, a Memorial Service in celebration of her life will be held on Friday, July 21, 2006, at 7: 30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Gore Road and #4 Hwy. just north of Saint Thomas. Passed away suddenly in his 59th year at Victoria Hospital, London, on Saturday, December 16, 2006. Retired from General Motors after working 30 years. Peacefully on Sunday, February 26th 2006, on her 91st birthday, at Allendale Nursing Home in Milton. Elva EZEARD, sadly missed by her son Darryl and his wife Alice, grandchildren Cheryl (Randy) HOUGH, and Derrick, great granddaughter Jillian and many nieces, nephews, Friends and neighbours. Predeceased by her husband and high school sweetheart Mervin, brothers Russell, Archie, Morley and sister Dorothy. Elva loved her family, her career in nursing at Dr. Stephenson's Clinic, Milton District Hospital and helping her mother (Margaret RASBERRY) at her nursing home. She loved her church and its music, Mission Band, Ladies Groups as President, Secretary, Treasurer, her volunteer work in Red Cross, Cancer Society and the Manor and Milton Hospital. She also enjoyed lawn bowling, curling, playing Bridge with Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire ladies and the highlight of her life, over 40 summers cottaging at Victoria Harbour on Georgian Bay. SISSING, Roelof
We are thankful for the life of Roelof SISSING, and that we were allowed to share part of his long life of one hundred and five years. To be able to think of all the beautiful moments we shared with him we are especially thankful. He is gone from us now, on Tuesday, February 28th, 2006, but he will forever be in the hearts of those he touched. Roelof was born on July 22, 1900 in The Netherlands. He married Alida Henderika SPIER in 1928, the love of his life. They started their lives together on board ship, the Dageraad II, and raised six children on board. When the war broke out, and in the middle of the bombardment, he and mom did their best to keep us safe. In 1944 when the Germans confiscated his ship he kept us safe and together. Then in 1951 two of his daughters married and came to Canada. The following year he brought the rest of his family to Canada and started over. He believed in keeping the family together and safe. The family grew with more marriages and of course grandchildren. In October of 1982, the love of his life Alida died and in 1983 he lost his son Jurrien. Community service has always been part of his life. He served as a medic in World War I, and a volunteer fireman in Holland. He served with the Saint John's Ambulance in Ingersoll for many years, also feeding patients at Alexandra Hospital. He received the Governor General's Award, Heart of Gold Award and Ingersoll Citizen's Award for his services. Dear father of Barteldina and her husband Anton VANDER HOEK of Port Colborne, Henderika and her husband John ONBELET of Ingersoll, Alida and her husband Paul HOUGHTON of Comox, British Columbia, Marten and his wife Patricia of Sweaburg and Roelie and her husband Bernard DILLIOTT of London. Loved by 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also predeceased by one great-grand_son Matthew ONBELET (1981.) Beloved husband of the late Blanche (HOUGHTON) LUNN (1998.) Dearly loved step-father of Gerald E. CHAMBERLAIN and his wife Margaret of London, and Larry H. CHAMBERLAIN his wife Sandra of Saint Thomas. Also fondly remembered by 7 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Mary DINNING and the late Clarence J. LUNN. Born in Port Talbot, Ontario, March 23, 1910, the son of the late Thomas J. and Lizzie (HORN) LUNN. A retired employee of Elgin Co-Operative Services, he also farmed in the Frome area for a number of years. Mr. LUNN was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Saint Thomas and was a former Deputy Reeve of Southwold Township. Of London passed away on September 19, 2006 after a short battle with liver damage at the age of 69. There was some dispute as to how to sum up his character and existence and this seems to do it. Somewhere George GALE heard a drum that no one else could hear and he was determined to march to it. Beloved husband of Eleanor (MORIARITY) GALE. Dear father of Angus GALE and his wife Jennifer of Kitchener, and Sean GALE and his friend Michelle HENRI of London. Dear brother of Bev GALE and his wife Barb of Tillsonburg and Shirley HOUGHTON (and her late husband Gord) of London. Also loved by his 2 grand_sons Dustin and Curtis, and 2 granddaughters Riley and Frankie. Survived also by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Ernest James GALE and Florence Annie McEWAN. George worked much of his life for the Government, first for Ontario Highways, and then for Ontario Hydro, in the capacity as an appraiser. Entered Eternal Life on September 30, 2006 in Chatham, Ontario. She was born in Mount Carmel, Ontario in 1914, the daughter of the late John and Cecilia (HOULAHAN) HOGAN. She entered the Ursuline Religious of the Diocese of London in 1942. During her religious life she served as a homemaker at Ursuline Motherhouse, Parkhill, Stratford, and Strathroy, Ontario. Sr. Cecilia received her Diploma in Religious Education in Michigan and served as a catechist in Menominee and Stephenson, Michigan. She also was Director of Resident Students at "The Pines" did clerical, bursar and receptionist work. She was a Parish Visitor in Strathroy and Woodstock. In 1993, she returned to Chatham. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by brothers Michael, Edward, Wilfred and sisters Theresa DUCHARME and Mary REGNIER. Relatives and Friends are invited to join the Ursuline Community at a prayer service to be held on Monday, October 2, at 7 p.m, in the Holy Family Chapel at "The Pines" Chatham. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Susan MARACLE, Toronto, sisters, Dolores (Steve) BUCKLAND, Oakville, Ontario, Ruth CHRISTMAS, Membertou, a brother Lawrence (Joan) PAUL, Membertou, sister-in-law, Elizabeth PAUL, Membertou, by in-laws, Doreen (Reg) HOULE, Tilbury, Ontario, Pauline (Ralph) DOXTATOR, Southwold, Ontario, Christine MARACLE, Saint Thomas, Ontario, Verda MARACLE, Sarnia and brother-in-law, T.J. Mrs. LAMBERT is survived by her four daughters: Judith CUMMING of Ottawa, Barbara HOURIGAN of Dundas, Jacqueline SIMMONS of Toronto and Mary Louise LAMBERT of Toronto. She revelled in a fresh picked basket of blueberries and noodling in the lake. Comfort was a cat on her lap. Escapism was equally a trashy spy novel or a night of theatre. She knew all the great swing dance steps and moved with grace. She found something in common with even the most uncommon people. Her strength was boundless and when life struck her youngest down with a grave illness, she suited up for battle and crusaded with one hand while stroking his brow to ally his fears with the other. Her blue eyes could charm even the hardest of hearts. Her home was her castle; her cottage her sanctuary. We will miss you very much. A private family service was held at the Turner and Porter, Yorke Chapel, Toronto, Thursday, May 4, 2006. A service to celebrate Carolyn's life will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at The Old Mill, 21 Old Mill Road, Toronto. Service at 11: 30 a.m. with reception to follow. Passed into the presence of his Lord on January 5, 2006 in his 87th year. Born in Saint Thomas, the son of the late Ernest and Hazel MILLER. Mr. MILLER lived in Saint Thomas all his life, he is survived by his wife Eleanor, one son Matthew and his partner Joan CARNOHAN of Listowel, two daughters Marsha and her husband Donald CLEARY and Mary Kay and her husband Barry IDESON, both of Saint Thomas. A son Norman died previously. Papa will be sadly missed by his nine grandchildren, Cody, Dustin and Riley MILLER, Rianne, Kenzie, Shelby and Brodie CLEARY, Karli and Brady IDESON and three great grandchildren Colin and Charmayne MILLER and Ryan CLEARY. Survived by a brother Campbell and his wife Mary of London, a sister-in-law Kathleen and her husband Marvin HOUSE of Saint Thomas, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. MILLER was a member of Trinity Anglican Church and a long time employee of the former Anderson's Ltd. A service celebrating Jim's life will be held on Tuesday January 10 at 2: 00 p.m. at Trinity Anglican Church with Reverend Rob DOERR officiating. Visitation at the church from 1: 00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Following the service Friends will be received by the family in the church hall for a time of fellowship.
