Born April 11, 1934 in Prince George, British Columbia. Adored husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, Fred died on November 7, 2006 at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver of complications from myelofibrosis. He is survived by his wife June (BREAULT,) daughter Julie, son Stewart and daughter-in-law Ela, sisters Kay HAYES (Williams Lake) and Agnes HOLECZI (Prince George,) and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and grand-nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. His parents Fritz and Marie (DYCK) and sister Rose WALCHLI predeceased him. Fred graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960, and went on to a distinguished career as a civil servant, working for the City of Kelowna, City of Prince George, British Columbia Land Department, and for 29 years for the Department of Indian Affairs, of which he was Director General in Alberta and later in British Columbia. Highlights of his career included being made an honourary chief of the Keheewin Indian Band in Alberta in 1976, receiving the Queen's Jubilee medal in 1977, and serving as chief federal negotiator for the Nishga'a land claim for several years before his retirement in 1990. He derived great pleasure coaching the 1984 Forest Hills Little League baseball champions, Stongs; walking his much-loved dogs Nikki, Smokey, and Misha in the Capilano Canyon; and being involved in the Federal Liberal Party, serving as President of the West VancouverSunshine Coast riding association for several years. A life-long student of Canadian history and avid follower of provincial, national, and world politics, Fred loved his beautiful province and country. Please join us to celebrate his life at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14 at Highlands United Church in North Vancouver, 3255 Edgemont Blvd. A private burial will take place earlier that day at Capilano View Cemetery in West Vancouver. His family wishes to thank Doctors Richard Horner, Stephen Nantel, and Isnet Tejpar, and the many skilled and caring nurses of the Bone Marrow Transplant Day Care Unit at Vancouver General Hospital whom he came to know over the past few months. Beloved mother and Baba of Lois, Janice, Robin and Bruce. Dear mother-in-law of Tom and Mike. Proud and devoted Grandma of Kyle, Devon, Sarah, David, Kristi, Karen and Kelly. Loving sister of Kathleen and Harry, and the late Norman. Fondly remembered by sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Muriel and Jack, and cousins Betty and Brian. Lily will be sadly missed by her extended family and Friends. Lily grew up and lived most of her life in Toronto. She served in the Air Force overseas during World War 2. Her legacy is her love of family and Friends. She created a home that sheltered many.

SIMMS, Raymond Edmund
The death of Raymond Edmund SIMMS occurred on February 2, 2006 at Pine Grove Nursing Home, Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was the husband of Maisie (MacRAE) SIMMS. Raymond was born on March 25, 1918 in New Liskeard, Ontario, to parents Edwin and Mary (Reynolds) SIMMS. His early days were spent in Northern Ontario. He attended Scollard Hall in North Bay, Ontario, Queen's University and Osgoode Hall Law School. He served as a lieutenant in World War 2 Canadian Army Artillery Corps. After the war, Raymond practiced law in Sudbury, Ontario and later in Toronto, Ontario. On retirement he returned to his birthplace, revisiting his boyhood haunts, and doing some travelling both at home and abroad. Later he took up residence in the Village of Gagetown, New Brunswick and more recently he moved to Fredericton. Besides his wife, Raymond is survived by his step-daughter Mary-Jo MacRAE (Ray KAINE) of the Village of Gagetown and her three children Dylan, Jordan and Dryw; also by his step-son Wayne (Jean) SIMMS of London, Ontario two granddaughters Leanne SIMMS of New York City and Caroline (Rob) DIRKSON of Winnipeg, Minnesota. Also surviving are his two brothers: Robert (Elsie) of Toronto, Ontario and Clare (Cecile) of Belleville, Ontario and two sisters Joyce DEAS of Beaverton, Ontario and Mava HOLLAND of Clinton, Ontario. There are many surviving nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (McWHINNIE) SIMMS; one sister Cavell and two brothers Hugh and Blake. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, February 7th, 2006 at 3: 00 p.m. Rev. Monte Peters will officiate. Graveside service and interment will follow in the springtime in New Liskeard, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to D.E.C.H. Graduated from De La Salle College "Oaklands" High School in 1948, St. Michael's College, University of Toronto in 1951, and Osgoode Hall Law School in 1955. Law partner at Manley, Grant and Armstrong until 1970; retired partner of Cassels, Brock and Blackwell, Toronto. Member, Knights of Columbus, Kingsway Council, and Knights of Malta, Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. 40-year member of Lambton Golf & Country Club. Peacefully on March 15th, 2006, in his 83rd year, at the Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario. Beloved husband of 61 years to Laura (WEERES.) Loving father of 4 children: Karen (Mike) SIMMONS of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Noreen (Gary) SEELEY of Saint John, New Brunswick, Jack (Susan) NOLAN of Aurora and Cathy (Mati) HOLLAND of Mississauga. Cherished grandfather to Greg (Holly) SIMMONS, Mathew (Lacey) SEELEY, Jason SEELEY, Jessica and Danny NOLAN. He is survived by sisters Teresa FINORA of Pensecola, Florida, and Kay REID of St. Catharines. A former Flying Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Tom completed an extensive Tour of Bomber Operations during World War 2. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association and Royal Canadian Legion. After a successful career with PPG Industries in Atlantic Canada, Tom went on to become very well known in the store fixtures industry and founded his own successful company Nolan Sales and Marketing Inc. He was a member of Rotary Club, the Canadian Professional Sales Association and the Toronto Board of Trade. Tom will be fondly remembered by many Friends and business associates across the country.
