Born December 9, 1916 in Courtland son of the late Bert HOLBROOK and the late Luella HERRON. Verdun farmed near Brownsville until 1974 and later lived in Tillsonburg and Courtland after retiring. Predeceased by his wife of 48 years Eveline (BABCOCK) HOLBROOK (March 22, 1998.) Survived by six children: Lloyd HOLBROOK (Shirley,) Courtland Don HOLBROOK (Carrie), Langton; Earl HOLBROOK, Tillsonburg; Darlene (Silas NEVILL), Delhi; Diane (Jim MASALES) Corinth; and Shirley ANDERSON of Otterville. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Ted SMITH, loved daughter of the late Margaret (LEWTHWAITE) and Reg HOLBROOK and the loved sister of the late Cliff (Aurore) HOLBROOK. She was the much loved cousin of Don HOLBROOK and Barb DOYLE. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed by her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, aunts and cousins. Predeceased by his wife Patricia (1996), father Albert (1965,) mother Vera (1995) and mother-in-law Erma BEATY (2000.) Survived by sisters Karen (John) FELDER of Nairn, Nora (Don) HOLDEN of Ingersoll, Phyllis (Jim) STOAKLEY of Norwich; brothers-in-law Bruce (Helen) of Vernon, British Columbia and Keith (Leslie) of Toronto. He will also be mourned by his godchildren, Stephan BAILEY of Vancouver and Barrie Jordon JANZ of Edmonton and many nieces and nephews. Barrie's academic portfolio consisted of a B.A.(Hon.) (1964) University of Western Ontario, M.A. (1966) University of Western Ontario, M.A.Sc. (1968), in Applied Psychology, University of Waterloo, Ph.D. (1980) in Counselling Psychology, University of Alberta. Barrie had retired from the University of Manitoba, Dept. of Psychology where he had been the Director of Student Couselling for many years. Upon retirement, he pursued his love of travel and reading. His generosity showed itself in the time spent and the numerous donations to many institutions including the Association of Community Living in Beausejour, Manitoba of which he was past Director. Cremation has taken place. He was a retired Lieutenant at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre, with the Ministry of Correctional Services. He was a member of Talbot Lodge #546 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons. Norm served overseas with the Regina Rifles during World War 2 and was a member of Branch 41 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Sadly on Monday, September 25th while on a family visit in Alberta, Melvin Arthur HOLDEN in his 86th year. World War 2 veteran (Perth Regiment) and retiree of 3M Canada where he worked for 44 years as a varnish maker, silk screener and in maintenance. Mel was known for his work ethic, family loyalty, his sense of humour and his mock grouchiness. He was generous to a fault. Mel enjoyed his mobile home adventures, the History Channel and travelling. Predeceased by his wife Verlyn (JUDD,) son Robert and brother Birge. Survived by daughters Valerie, Sara (Mark), brother Allan Ireland (Diane) and sister Phyllis DONOVAN. Dave was born in Stratford, Ontario where he met and married his wife Geraldine (Gerrie) and started their family of 3 children Paul, Sarah and Peter. Survived and sadly missed by his wife Gerrie, daughter Sarah HOLDEN, son Peter David ROBERTS, son-in-law Greg HOLDEN and sister Sylvia WALKER and brother-in-law Joe WALKER. Remembering Poppa's rule to "Take what they like, but eat what they take" are grandchildren Kaitlyn ROBERTS, Chelsey ROBERTS and Shale HOLDEN. Alma PENNY passed gently from this world after an arduous illness on Wednesday, May 17th 2006 at Allendale Long Term Care Facility surrounded by her children. Alma was born in Great Harwood, Great Britain on June 24th, 1920. Immigrating to Canada in 1954 she settled in Scarborough with her husband and family. Alma was an active member of the Centenary Hospital Auxiliary volunteering in the Hospital Gift Shop for many years. After moving to Milton, she became a member of the Milton Seniors Activity Centre and chaired and organized the popular Milton Seniors "Lunch Brunch". She also knit and purled her way into Creative Fingers Craft Club, God bless'um. Alma was predeceased by her husband Joe. She is survived by her son Tony and his wife Sandra, son Michael and his wife Karen and daughter Barbara and her husband Laird. She will be loved and fondly remembered by her grandchildren Jonathon, Craig and his wife Andrea, David and Lesley, Aaron, Brett, Jay and his wife Joanne, Jana and six great grandchildren. Stan was born in Toronto, Ontario and grew up in London, Ontario until 1965 then moved his family to Calgary where he owned and operated Black Gold Printers until his retirement. Stan was well known in the community and was actively associated with: Associated Canadian Travelers / United Commercial Travelers being Dominion President of United Commercial Travelers and First Grand Counselor of Associated Canadian Travelers / United Commercial Travelers. Was also an active member of several organizations including Calgary Minor Hockey, Calgary Oldtime Hockey Players, Calgary Police Rodeo and many more. At Saint Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, July 9, 2006. Douane Dixon HOLDITCH of R.R.#2, Aylmer in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Evelyn (RODGERS) HOLDITCH. Dear father of Muriel JONES of Florida, Don HOLDITCH and wife Carrol of R.R.#2, Aylmer and foster father of Frank WALLIS (Barb) of Saint Thomas. Also survived by a son-in-law Bill WYE and wife Muriel of Ingersoll and a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his daughter Margaret Ann WYE (2002) and brothers George, Arthur, Harold and Cecil HOLDITCH. Born in Malahide Township on June 7, 1916, son of the late Henry and Jessica (DICKSON/DIXON) HOLDITCH. He was a farmer and worked at Imperial for 25 years. Douane enjoyed wintering in Florida for 24 years. Friends may call at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 1: 00 p.m. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery.
