Woman dies, child spared
An autopsy will determine whether medical factors may have led to the death of Barbara WICKERSON, 73.

A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a woman yesterday morning at Thirteen Mile and Wonderland roads. (Mike HENSEN, London Free Press)
Birr -- A London-area woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash near here yesterday that also affected a three-year-old girl.
Barbara WICKERSON, 73, was driving east along Thirteen Mile Road at 10 a.m. when her eastbound sport utility vehicle collided at Wonderland Road with a minivan heading south, Middlesex Ontario Provincial Police said.
An autopsy today will examine if medical factors may have contributed to the death of the Middlesex Centre woman, officers said at the scene, about seven kilometres north of London.
Her injuries, they noted, didn't appear severe enough to have been fatal.
Three generations of the same family were in the minivan, including Nikaia SIRE- RODRIGUES, 3, of Toronto. Her mother, Marcie SIRE, 30, and grandmother, Harolyn SIRE, 59, of Lucan, were hurt.
The toddler was properly strapped into a car seat and that likely saved her from injury, Ontario Provincial Police Const. Chris HUNTER said. "It's just great to see the compliance from parents" to the provincial car seat laws."
Long stretches of road around the rural intersection were closed for hours yesterday as Ontario Provincial Police investigators examined the scene.
The minivan, which had been heading south toward London, came to rest several metres from the road in an open field. The sport utility vehicle, with major front-left damage, ended up nearby.
No charges will be laid, Const. Doug GRAHAM said.

Peacefully on September 12, 2006 at University Hospital, Thomas Francis BAXTER in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Winifred for 53 wonderful years. Loving father of Peter and daughter-in-law Mary. Sadly missed by sister Lucy McAULEY, sister-in-law Marjorie HENSHALL, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Marcia HENSHALL, and sister-in-law Ursula BAXTER. Lovingly missed by Mary and Charlie NEMETH of Edmonton and Violet and Richard ZAHN of Calgary. Predeceased by parents Tom and Lucy BAXTER (née KENNY) and brother Jack from Liverpool, England. Tom will also be fondly missed by many caring family and Friends in Canada and England. Tom, a retiree of General Motors was a proud member of the Canadian Legion for 35 years and a devout parishioner and usher at Blessed Sacrament Church. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2006 -- 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 1559 Fanshawe Park Road (East of Highbury) with visitation held one hour prior. Of Saint Thomas, on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, after ailing health, surrounded by his loving family, in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Beryl (POWELL) HENSTOCK and dearly loved father of Vicky Ann and her husband Guntis GLINAVS of London and Kathleen Elizabeth and her husband Peter BERRY of Saint Thomas. Loved grandfather of Erik GLINAVS and Jeff and Kaitlyn BLUNT. He was the last of his family. Predeceased by 3 sisters Edna, Irene and Sybil. Vic was born in England on June 22, 1927. He came to Canada in 1957 and taught at Parkside Collegiate Institute and Arthur Voaden Secondary School. He coached soccer and football and was an avid soccer fan. He served in the Royal Navy. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas where funeral service will be held Saturday at 1: 00 p.m. Interment to follow in Elmdale Cemetery. Died at home in Morrisville, Vermont, on Thursday, April 6, 2006 peacefully after a brief illness. Born January 22, 1913 in Montreal, Quebec, to Gerald W. FARRELL and Eileen O'Meara FARRELL. Survived by Florence his beloved wife for 54 years; by daughter of his marriage to Joanna WRIGHT, Sally KININMONTH (David), Lac Brome, Quebec; and by Florence's daughters, Fiona FARRELL (Kevin HIGGINS,) Saratoga, New York; and Willa FARRELL (Kathleen HENTCY), Walden, Vermont; by brother Charles (Lady Katherine) of Watlington, England by grandchildren Paul and Michael KININMONTH and Julia BLUNDELL great-granddaughter Mia KININMONTH; five nephews and nieces, Nick, Louisa, Gerry, Dido, and Em, and their children; and standard poodle Emma. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Gerald and Desmond, and his son Mark. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 9, 2006, in Morrisville, Vermont. A pioneering newspaperman, Mark developed Weekend Magazine, and its French-language counterpart, Perspectives, which together in the 1960s, reached half of all Canadians in their local weekend paper. He held managing positions with The Canadian Forum and was publisher of The Windsor Star and The Montreal Gazette. Mark leaves a legacy of love.
