In loving memory a dear son, Rusty, who passed away April 25th,
A million times I've missed you,

All the years we were together,

I felt the warmth of the sun,
As they laid you in your grave.
I know God has his plans and I thank Him
For the memories he gave.

Thomas Stayner recipient loses battle with cancer
Grace FORD remembered by family, Friends at funeral Tuesday
By Michael
GENNINGS,
Page 1
Grace FORD, the winner of last year's Thomas Stayner Award, died
on Saturday.
She was 87.
Daughter-in-law Tish
FORD told The Sun on Monday that
FORD died
of liver, lung and bone cancer. She was diagnosed in early December
and subsequently moved to Stayner Nursing Home, where she passed
away on the weekend.
The award she received at last year's Stayner Chamber of Commerce
Business Awards ceremony was special to her, her daughter-in-law
said.
"She had that on her television in the nursing home so she could
see it. She was so incredibly honoured by it," Tish
FORD said.
The Thomas Stayner Award is a citizen of the year-type award
created by the Chamber four years ago.
FORD told people at the ceremony it was nice to receive the award,
but quickly added there were a number of others just as deserving.
Judges selected
FORD based on a 14-year commitment to the Stayner
Public Library Board.
Many other things she was involved with helped her win as well.
FORD was a volunteer driver for the Children's Aid Society, ferrying
wards to appointments and did work through United Church Women.
"Her enthusiasm toward her town and its heritage is unending,
and she is an individual who possesses a very strong community
spirit and has definitely made a difference to Stayner and the
lives of its citizens,"
FORD's daughter-in-law wrote when nominating
her last year.
She recounted Monday that her mother-in-law was "a very caring
and outspoken person. No one pulled the wool over Grace's eyes.
If she had something to say she said it. You always knew where
you stood."
Grace FORD was born and raised in Stayner. She attended Byng
Public School and subsequently Stayner Continuation School.
Her parents were Vern and Eva
JOHNSON.
FORD's dad was a tailor,
who had a business where R.C. Robinson Mens Wear is now located
on Main Street.
Growing up and as a young woman
FORD loved to play sports.
"She played hockey, baseball, whatever was going back then she
enjoyed it," Tish
FORD said.
Helen HANNA, 87,
FORD's best friend, recalled the first time
they met.
"We've been Friends for over 75 years. They'd moved to a new
house on John Street and I'd heard there were two little kids
there. So I lived on John Street too and I went up the walk and
there she was standing out front,"
HANNA said.
Growing up the two played sports together and as adults were
often in each others company,
HANNA said, adding she was a bridesmaid
in FORD's wedding.
FORD lived most of her life in Clearview Township, except for
a few brief stints, including one when she worked building airplanes
for the deHavilland Aircraft Company in Toronto during the Second
World War.
"She was always very good with her hands. It was not uncommon
for her to fix things at my place," her friend said.
She married her husband Fred shortly after the war ended and
the couple lived on a farm at Sunnidale Corners for 20-plus years,
until moving back to town. The Stayner home was the one
FORD
grew up in as a little girl,
HANNA said.
"She loved Stayner too -- it was her favourite place. She was
a big believer in buying locally, which I guess stems from when
her dad was in business."
HANNA noted her friend was also a good mother. She raised two
boys, Tom and John.
"She also cherished every moment with her great-grandchildren
and grandchildren," Tish
FORD said.
In terms of entertainment she loved to play cards, although
HANNA
said she thinks
FORD enjoyed the social aspect more than the
game itself.
Reading was another favourite thing, her daughter-in-law said.
FORD was a big diary writer as well and kept one since she was
a youngster.
HANNA said she will miss her friend dearly.
Yesterday afternoon, a funeral service for
FORD was held at the
Carruthers and Davidson Funeral Home on Main Street.
FORD was
buried at Stayner Union Cemetery.
The family said that donations in memory of
FORD can be made
to the Centennial United Church Building Repair Fund, Box 385,
Stayner, L0M 1S0.

ANDERSON,
Paul
Chenery
(Major, Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, retired)
Passed away gently in the arms of his children on October 7,
2006. Born in Toronto on May 16, 1916, the eldest
son of Oscar
Victor ANDERSON and Isabella St. Clair
CHENERY,
Paul had 90 years
of life, and leaves a fine and enduring legacy of accomplishment
to his family, and
to Canada. The brother of the late Isabella
CONWAY of Guelph, Frances
PEARSON of Vancouver, and Doctor David
ANDERSON of Maple, he was an outstanding student, athlete, soldier,
professional engineer, husband, father and grandfather. The valedictorian
on graduation from Humberside Collegiate Institute, he was also
a starting guard on the Humberside senior basketball team which
won the Dominion of Canada Championship in 1934. He was a leading
figure at the University of Toronto, where he was President of
the Engineering Society of the School of Practical Science in
1939. Graduating with an engineering degree, he worked at Ferranti,
a major United Kingdom electrical and electronics equipment firm.
He married the late Phyllis Irene
HANNAFORD of Toronto at High
Park United Church in early 1941, to share their love of dancing
for life. The honeymoon was interrupted as he had volunteered
for duty with the Canadian Army. He sailed overseas to the United
Kingdom, where he eventually took part in the Normandy Invasion,
serving with honour, in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and
finally Germany. After Victory in Europe and
in Japan were secured,
he returned to Canada and, retired from the military, worked
for Canada Electric, the consulting firm MacGregor-Anderson which
he co-founded, and later with the Toronto Board of Education.
He was married to his beloved Phyllis for 60 years, and was the
devoted father of William Victor
ANDERSON,
Carole
Chenery
JEROME,
both of Toronto, and Bruce Edward
ANDERSON of Laguna Niguel,
California. He was a wonderful father-in-law to Lise
ANDERSON
and Christina
ANDERSON, and a loving grandfather to Anne-Marie,
Lindsey, Thomas, Joshua and Matthew, who all called him 'Bubba',
with affection. Paul continued his athletic career for decades
and was a solid skier and tennis player, finally, but reluctantly,
retiring from downhill skiing at age 76. Not giving up very easily,
he joined a Superfitness club after turning 80. He was also a
skilled vegetable gardener, and travelled with Phyllis in North
America, Europe and Hawaii. There will be a brief visitation,
a memorial service, and a reception afterwards, commencing at
2 p.m. Saturday October 14, 2006, at the Turner and Porter Yorke
Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West (at Winder mere, east of the Jane
subway), Toronto, 416 767 3153. We will be delighted to see Friends
and family there, and of course flowers are most welcome as a
touch of this happy celebration of a good life, welllived. Now
he has left for the unknown territory ahead of us all. He had
a good and strong spirit, a high and thoughtful intelligence,
and a loyal and faithful heart. They And And And gave him light
in his ways, love, and a space for delight; beauty, and length
of days, night, and sleep in the night. We will miss him, and
we now wish him dancing in the stars.
