BARRÉ, Gilles▼ (1932-2006)
Born in Montreal to Germaine neé FORTIN and Arthur BARRÉ, he was the third of four children. His childhood was rapscallion. He joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1950 and met his wife Eileen neé GREENE on Labour Day of the same year. They were married in 1955 and two children, a daughter and a son, came into the world in 1956 and 1959. He left the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and worked at a handful of jobs until he started with 3M in 1965, where he stayed for 32 years. After retiring, he worked and played at The Home Depot. He was always up to something, even if, at times, no one quite knew what it was. He was a skilled woodworker, a sometime artist, a bonsai aficionado and much else. A "gentleman of calibre" and a gleam ever in his eye, unforgettable, he will be sorely missed by his daughter, Lynn (Bill LA HAM,) his son, Geoffrey, his grandchildren, Jessica and Claire LA HAM, and Selena BARRÉ, his wife, Eileen, and many others too numerous to mention. There will be a visitation at Turner and Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga (Hwy. 10 north of Queen Elizabeth Way) from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 11. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charlotte HAM. Charlotte's passing came after a brief illness during which time she was surrounded by her loving family. Wife of the late David HAM, mother of John, Arthur (Kathleen) and Charlotte (Cameron.) Grandmother of Dawn (Dan), Mary, Kyla (and their mother Barb) Galen and Garnet; Julie, Katherine and Emily. Great grandmother of Jordan. Four great-grandchildren also survive. Dear brother of Victor (Anne) ORLECKY, David (Elsie) ORLECKI, Rosalind YOUGHANS, Nancy HAM and Helen WAITE. Predeceased by brothers John ORLECKI, Joe ORLECKI, infant brother Harry and by sisters Mary KABAGE, Lena ATHEY, Anne SMITH and Margaret ZITTEL. Walter was a Veteran of World War 2 and fought in the battle of Ortona, was a Member of Branch 51 Royal Canadian Legion and a retired Customs and Excise Officer serving in Lahr, West Germany, Ottawa and Niagara Falls. In his 85th year, Douglas entered peacefully into rest at London Health Sciences Centre on Friday, December 22, 2006. Gentle and dearly loved, Douglas was predeceased by his wife Helen and survived by his brother Gordon, nieces Phyllis (Don) LAMONT, Linda (Graham) ENGLAND, Vicki (Bruce) HAMBLY and nephew Ronald. Also, predeceased by Maureen TRACEY and friend Myrtle Showers. Doug will be dearly missed by his close Friends Bill Huntley and Karen Brissette. Doug touched the lives of many people with his positive attitude and was an inspiration to all he came in contact with. Many thanks to the Comcare team who supported him throughout the years and to the ACE team at the hospital. His three little grandchildren Spencer, Jayson and Jenna loved their Papa Gordon. Predeceased▼ by his parents Victor and Jessie DALE of Toronto and his sister Janet and her husband Robert HAMBLY of Oshawa. Fondly▼ remembered by his niece Jill ERKELENZ and nephews John and Bob HAMBLY. Gordon▼ was born and raised in Toronto and graduated in 1954 from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. In 2004 he was reunited with his classmates at a wonderful 50th year reunion. He received his fellowship in Orthopeadics in 1961. He practised orthopaedic surgery at St. Joseph's Health Centre, Queensway General Hospital and William Osler Hospital in Etobicoke. He greatly enjoyed his work and the Friendships he had with all his colleagues. Retiring in 2001, Gordon and Helen moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake where they enjoyed their new home, garden and the beauty of the Niagara area. The family is grateful for the compassion and care he received throughout his illness. Born in Montreal on September 16, 1909, she chose to enter the world of business, first with the Dominion Rubber Company, and after her marriage in 1931, along with her husband, the retail trade, where she was active for more than twenty years. Rheva was a golfer at the Hillsdale Golf and Country Club of which she was one of the earliest women members and also joined with her husband on many of his numerous fishing trips. She was an amateur painter, who participated for several years in the organization of the annual N.D.G. Arts and Letters Festival. Some of her charitable activities included the Ethel Epstein Ein chapter of Hadassah on whose behalf she edited the Shavuot Chapter of the cookbook entitled "A Treasure For My Daughter" which was first published in 1950 and continued through its tenth printing in 1984, and has now been re-issued. She was also for a number of years the Secretary of the Hampstead Chapter of O.R.T. Her guidance, and above all her philosophical attitude toward life will be missed, but remembered. She was a woman of style and dignity, with the discipline to maintain both.
