At Baycrest Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, on January 1, 2006, after a lengthy, courageous battle against cancer. Adored wife of fifty-nine years of William (Bill) of Toronto; beloved mother of Jan MORRIS (David) of Burlington, Ontario, and John (Celia) of Claremont, Ontario. Loving grandmother of Kristy and Alex MORRIS and Jennifer FRECHETTE of Bradford, Ontario. Predeceased by brothers Kenneth (Jean) of Toronto and Gordon of Bath, England, sister of Stuart of Calver, Sheffield, England. Born in London, England, daughter of Colonel Albert and Elsie DALZIEL, she was educated in Winnipeg, Vancouver and Toronto. She endured the London Blitz of World War 2, working at the Canadian Bank of Commerce and Canadian Military Headquarters before joining the Canadian Army Auxiliary Services in Stratford-upon-Avon where she ended overseas service, returning to Canada in 1946. A volunteer worker with the Canadian Diabetes Association, she became an expert in dealing with the dietary complexities of her husband's combination of diabetes and celiac disease. She was a long time active member of the Anglican Church of Saint Timothy North Toronto (100 Old Orchard Grove) where a funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock on Thursday, January 5th, 2006. Friends who wish to make memorial gifts, which the family would appreciate, may choose the Church of Saint Timothy or a favourite charity. Passed away peacefully, at Lakeshore Lodge, Etobicoke, on Thursday, March 30, 2006, in her 86th year. Beloved wife of Ron, and loving mother of Kathy and Bill. She is survived by her brother Bob and sister-in-law Bonnie (Bruce) and family; son-in-law Rick FRECKER; three grandchildren Heather (Greg HARRIS,) Karen and Helena FRECKER; and two great-grandchildren Benjamin and Aimee HARRIS. Our Baba will be missed by the entire family and by her many Friends at the piano, at the bridge table and at Baker's Narrows near FlinFlon, Manitoba where she spent so many happy summers. We extend sincere thanks to all the marvellous staff at Lakeshore Lodge who, over the last 2½ years, took care of Jean and kept her secure and comfortable, when she could no longer be cared for at home. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held later for family and Friends. Daughter of the late Doctor Fred Owen FREDERICK and the late Dilys Catherine Hendrie OWEN. A private family commemoration will be held. The family would like to thank the caregivers, nurses and doctors of the 15th floor of the Montreal General Hospital for their care and compassion. Ann was well known and respected in the dog fancy. She and Tom have been longtime breeders and exhibitors of Bearded Collies, under the kennel name Strathearn. Ann held many positions in various dog clubs and was deeply committed to the welfare and enjoyment of her beloved breed. Beardies were Ann's passion and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Sincere thanks to Ann's close Friends and to those in the Beardie and dog communities across Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom that supported her and sent her their best wishes during her stay in hospital. Of London passed away on September 19, 2006 after a short battle with liver damage at the age of 69. There was some dispute as to how to sum up his character and existence and this seems to do it. Somewhere George GALE heard a drum that no one else could hear and he was determined to march to it. Beloved husband of Eleanor (MORIARITY) GALE. Dear father of Angus GALE and his wife Jennifer of Kitchener, and Sean GALE and his friend Michelle HENRI of London. Dear brother of Bev GALE and his wife Barb of Tillsonburg and Shirley HOUGHTON (and her late husband Gord) of London. Also loved by his 2 grand_sons Dustin and Curtis, and 2 granddaughters Riley and Frankie. Survived also by his nieces and nephews. George worked much of his life for the Government, first for Ontario Highways, and then for Ontario Hydro, in the capacity as an appraiser. It is with great sadness we announce that Dorothy Marie HOUGH passed away on July 9, 2006 in Southwestern Alberta in her 90th year after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She moved to Alberta in August, 2005 to be with her son Tom and daughter-in-law Joan. Born January 21, 1917 to William and Ida ZINN (both deceased,) in Saint Thomas, Ontario where she lived most of her life with the exception of several years each in Pt. Stanley, Leamington and London. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene Aubrey HOUGH in 1989 and by daughter Nancy Carol BRITTAIN in 1974. Also predeceased by brothers, Floyd, Harvey and sister Marjorie BROWN as well as two grand_sons, Floyd and Steven. Dorothy will be sincerely missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Gerald HOUGH of Scarborough, Ontario, Sally and husband Howard FREED of Bothwell, Ontario And Thomas HOUGH and wife Joan of Pincher Creek area of Alberta. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Cabbie killed by racing Mercedes

Cab driver Tahir KHAN had just dropped off his last fare and was headed south on Mount Pleasant Rd. It was 10: 20 p.m.
Racing north were two Mercedes driven by 18-year-olds, each pushing 140 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, police say. Next to one driver was the popular video game Need For Speed.
As the Mercedes rounded a bend, the taxi made a left turn on to Whitehall Rd. A loud crash shattered the still of Tuesday night.
One of the Mercedes, a silver 1999 model, T-boned the taxi, drilling it into a utility pole, police say.
KHAN, 46, died instantly, and the driver of the mangled Mercedes escaped with just a few scratches. The driver of the other car fled, returning to the scene after ditching his car a few blocks away, posing as a bystander, police say.
It was a tragic end to KHAN's life, which was brimming with hope as he looked forward to becoming a Canadian citizen tomorrow. It was a day he'd long looked forward to, because it meant he was one step closer to being reunited with his wife, whom he hoped to bring over from Pakistan.
The accused are university students -- believed to be studying at Ryerson and York -- and both had attended St. Andrew's College, a prestigious private school in Aurora, graduating in June 2004. One played on St. Andrew's football team, and both were average students who never got in trouble, said head football coach Courtney SHRIMPTON. One of them lives a tony neighbourhood just north of the Bridle Path. Yesterday, police would not comment on whether the cars belonged to the teens' parents.
As police yesterday questioned what influence the game may have played and KHAN's Friends grappled with his death, the two accused made a brief court appearance.
"It's a horrible irony," said Det. Paul LOBSINGER about the presence of the video game, which allows players to choose high-end cars and race them through city streets while being pursued by police cruisers.
"Some have said this is life imitating art but I don't know," said LOBSINGER, adding "a game is a game, but when you get behind the wheel it's reality."
LOBSINGER described the game as an "ultra-violent driving simulation, fighting simulation and criminal simulation."
"But are games the cause?" he asked. "Absolutely not. But, it is rather ironic."
Police say alcohol was not a factor, and that it's not clear if the video game was played before the two went out driving.
"I have no words to explain why this happened," said cabbie Muhammad NASEEM, who was a friend of KHAN's. "He was a very nice man, very quiet, very polite, all the good words you can think of can be used to describe him."
Earlier this week, recalled NASEEM, KHAN had told him that he planned to return home to the district of Jhang, in Pakistan's Punjab region. KHAN's mother was ill and he wanted to be with her. He also looked forward to visiting his brother, sister and wife of 15 years, whom he's helped support since moving to Canada almost six years ago.
He was looking forward to returning home as a Canadian citizen, something he would have become during a citizenship ceremony at the Scarborough Town Centre.
"He was so excited," said KHAN's friend Munir AHMAD, while visiting the coroner's office to identify the body. "He was planning to bring his family here."
Last night, a large group of Friends gathered at the east-end apartment KHAN shared with Shahid HASAN to call his family in Pakistan and break the devastating news.
"He had lots of Friends," said HASAN, who has lived with KHAN for the last five years in Scarborough. "He was a very kind man who was helpful to everyone."
Jim BELL, manager of Diamond Taxi, said KHAN had been with the company for three years and called his death a tragedy for everyone involved.
"Those kids must be feeling absolutely terrible and the parents of these kids who were racing must be feeling devastated."
Charged with criminal negligence causing death are Alexander RYAZANOV and Wang-Piao Dumani ROSS. ROSS is also charged with failing to stop after an accident causing death.
Outside the courtroom where the two teens made a brief appearance at bail court in College Park yesterday, the aunt of one described them as "really good boys."
"It's tragic, it's horrible what happened. Now I am going to be worried about him staying in jail with criminals."
Because lawyers for the pair weren't available, the two must return for separate bail hearings -- ROSS tomorrow and RYAZANOV on Monday. Neither has a criminal record.
The two long-time Friends chatted quietly to each other as they sat in the prisoner's box.
The Crown says it will oppose their release on two grounds: public outrage over the death and the likelihood of reoffending.

Dear sister-in-law of Gordon and Dorothy HALL of Nepean. Born in Saint Thomas, January 23, 1922, the only child of the late Alexander and Leila (FREELE) MARSHALL. Jean was a member of Central United Church, Saint Thomas and a member of the Philathea Unit of the church. She was a 50 year member of Flower City Chapter #91, O.E.S. and a Past Worthy High Priestess of Bethany Lodge #8, White Shrine of Jerusalem. Friends will be received by the family at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held Thursday at 11: 00 a.m. Interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to the charity of one's choice gratefully acknowledged.

(Birth Date Jan 31, 1935) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Charles COLEMAN of R.R.#3 Saint Thomas at Saint Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Saturday December 2, 2006 in his 72nd year. Bob was the son of the late George and Edith (MORTON) COLEMAN. Beloved husband of the late Lillian (BAINBRIDGE) COLEMAN (2001.) Dear father of Kim (Mike) CEPLA of Tillsonburg, Robert (Belinda) COLEMAN of Aylmer. Loving Papa to Melissa (Stephen) SMITH of Woodstock, Shaun (fiancee Svetlana SHIKSHINA) CEPLA of South Korea, Leah, Nathan (girlfriend Jessica) INGRAM, Nathasha and Conner COLEMAN. Proud great-grandpa to Tyler, Mikayla and Madison SMITH. Sadly missed by brother Cyril (Joan) COLEMAN of Australia, Tom (Lois) COLEMAN of Saint Thomas and sister May SILVERTHORN (late Doug DREWITT) of Saint Thomas. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas, where visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Private family graveside service to follow on Wednesday.
