In loving memory of a dear husband, father and grandfather, Giuseppe
Nicola, who passed away 12 years ago, March 16, 1994.
I'm still here, though you don't see me.
I'm right by your side each night and day and within your heart
I will always stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I will never depart as long as you keep
me alive in your heart.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine and you'll
see that the face in the moon is mine.
I'm the salty tears that flow when you weep and the beautiful
dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on my grandchildren's face.
Just look at me, I'm every place.

Area woman dies after sport utility vehicle rolls on top of her
By John HERBERT, Free Press Reporter, Tues., February 7, 2006
A 35-year-old Nairn woman on her way home from work in London
Monday was killed after her vehicle hit a patch of ice and rolled
over into a ditch on Vanneck Road near Nine Mile Road in Middlesex
Centre.
Ontario
Provincial
Police said Michelle
HYMERS died when her
sport utility vehicle rolled on top of her in the ditch.
Ontario
Provincial
Police said
HYMERS was not wearing a seatbelt
and was thrown from the vehicle when it went out of control at
about 5: 30 p.m.
"I'm sure she would have survived that collision had she worn
a seat belt," Const. Doug
GRAHAM said. "She was thrown out and
her Cherokee rolled over. If she had been belted, I doubt there
would have been anything more than minor injuries."
HYMERS is the fourth London and area motorist killed since Sunday
in crashes blamed on poor weather conditions.
Sixteen-year-old Joanna
PILARINOS and her mother, Christine
FOSTER,
45, died Sunday afternoon whern their van was struck by a
VIA
train at a gated crossing in Thames Centre. The teenager was
driving the vehicle. Iklas
SARDOUM of Windsor died Saturday in
a three-car crash on Bloomfield Road south of Chatham during
high winds and snow.

Family shattered by crash
Joanna PILARINOS and her mother, Christine
FOSTER, were positive,
loving people, kin say.
By April KEMICK, Free Press Reporter, Tues., February 7, 2006
A Dorchester family is struggling to cope with an unthinkable
loss in the aftermath of a crash Sunday that killed a mother
and daughter.
Joanna PILARINOS, 16, and her mother, Christine
FOSTER, 45, died
Sunday afternoon when their van collided with a train in Thames
Centre.
PILARINOS, a beginner driver described as a "vibrant, popular"
teen, was behind the wheel when the van slid onto the snow-covered
tracks at Shaw Road north of Catherine Street.
The van was pushed more than 500 metres down the tracks by a
Via Rail train.
"We were all really tight," Spiro
PILARINOS said of his mother,
sister and stepfather, Carey
FOSTER.
"I feel so dislocated and lost," he said.
"I am going through every emotion possible."
The 29-year-old, who was visiting from Toronto for the weekend,
said his mom and sister were out shopping for school supplies
when the crash happened.
Yesterday would have been his sister's first day back in Grade
11 classes at Regina Mundi College after the exam period.
The "high-achieving, studious" teen wanted to have fresh supplies
to start the second term off right, Spiro
PILARINOS said.
"She always did really well in school," he said. "She got straight
As and she was very goal-oriented."
Ted GORSKI, principal at Regina Mundi, said yesterday was a sombre
day at the school.
"The teachers and students were just crushed by the news," he
said.
"Joanna was a beautiful girl with a beautiful personality," he
said, adding the school will hold a special mass today in her
honour.
The tall, athletic teen was an optimistic girl who loved to "see
possibilities in everything," her brother said.
"She was always looking for opportunities, for ways to make things
better," he said. "She was very passionate and caring."
Her positive attitude and determined character were traits she
shared with her mother, Christine, a Kellogg's employee for 25
years, he said.
Christine's supportive, accepting parenting style made it easy
for him and his sister to be close to their mom, Spiro
PILARINOS
said.
She was a good listener who made it known she loved her kids
no matter what, he said.
"My mother was so supportive," he said. "If we ever needed to
confide in anyone, she was always there. She was so accepting
and loving."
The two were both avid readers who liked to shop -- a pastime
they often shared, he said.
"They were very close," Spiro
PILARINOS said.
He said there's no one thing he'll miss most about his mom and
younger sister, whom he talked to almost daily from Toronto.
"I'm going to miss everything," he said. "There's no words to
describe how much I'm going to miss them."

Teenager remembered as friendly, full of fun
Cassandra HARDWICK was fatally injured while using a crosswalk
on her way to school.
By Peter GEIGEN-
MILLER, Free Press Reporter, Wed., April 12,
Grieving Friends and classmates remember Cassandra
HARDWICK as
outgoing, friendly and full of fun.
The Grade 12 student at Sir Wilfrid Laurier secondary school
was fatally injured Monday morning while using a Southdale Road
crosswalk a block from the school.
It's the latest in a spate of pedestrian accidents that have
killed seven people on London streets in 2004 and 2005 and injured
many more.
Yesterday, shocked classmates responded to
HARDWICK's death by
creating a memorial at the accident site.
The roadside tribute features flowers, photos and a large poster
filled with hand-written messages and memories of
HARDWICK, 17.
The popular student, voted funniest at Laurier this year, laughed
a lot and made others laugh, classmates remembered yesterday.
"She was the queen of funny faces," said Grade 12 classmate Katie
ELDRIDGE. "If you had a bad day, you could talk to her and she'd
cheer you up."
Jessie FOSTER, also in Grade 12, said
HARDWICK always made her
smile.
"If you didn't know her, you missed out on something,"
FOSTER
said.
Laurier principal Frank
GALIZIA spoke about
HARDWICK before her
name was officially released, describing her as "a lovely young
lady, just a good person."
He said the young woman was a good student and well thought of
by staff and students alike.
GALIZIA said guidance counsellors and the Thames Valley District
school board's traumatic events response team have been at the
school to provide support for any staff and students who need
it.
GALIZIA said the student body has responded to the death with
compassion, supporting each other in their grief.
The accident occurred at a crosswalk on Southdale west of Millbank
Drive, where the school is located.
The crosswalk is controlled by buttons that are pushed to turn
traffic lights on Southdale red and give pedestrians a walk signal.
Police are investigating the role of the crosswalk in the accident.
Area resident Wilfrid
VOAKES said he'd like to see more protection
for pedestrians crossing heavily travelled Southdale Road.
He would like to see school zone warning signs and reduced speeds
on Southdale Road near the crosswalk.
"We need signs to slow the traffic down and make drivers more
aware of the kids,"
VOAKES said.
He points out the neighbourhood has Laurier secondary school
and two elementary schools.
"It will probably happen again if they don't do something,"
VOAKES
warned.

STEPHENSON,
Donald
Ross
(May 13, 1928-March 26, 2006)
It is with great sadness that the family of Donald
STEPHENSON
announce his passing on March 26, 2006. Don slipped away quietly
in his sleep at Sarnia General Hospital following a brief illness.
He is now in a better place and we are sure that he is watching
and patiently waiting for the 'happening', that he wanted us
to have in memory of him and in celebration with him. Born in
Toronto, May 13, 1928, Don lived his early years in North Toronto.
Don married Betty Joan
WILCE in 1952 and relocated to Richmond
Hill where together with his wife and life partner they raised
three boys. Don was always a loving, dedicated and supportive
father. After 22 years, they relocated to Camlachie, near Sarnia,
in 1975 and from there their love of boating took them in 1982 to
a condominium in a marina development in Point Edward (a suburb
of Sarnia) where he lived out this retirement years. Don began
his working life as a professional photographer, and enjoyed
his passion for this creative art long into his life. Realizing
that photography might not 'pay the bills', Don soon moved into
a career in marketing, advertising and ultimately, public relations,
concluding his career with a 25 year tenure at Dow Chemical Canada.
Don was transferred to Sarnia in 1975 to take up a position as
Public Relations and Advertising Manager for Dow. During his
years in Richmond Hill, together with Betty, Don was active in
both federal and provincial politics serving in riding association
executives, as president, campaign manager and as a fund raiser.
While his political allegiances changed later in life, his work
at that time was helpful in securing the election of Barney Danson,
Federal Minister of National Defence and Donald Deacon, the Deputy
Leader of the Provincial Liberal Party. In the years following
his transfer to Sarnia he became Director of Public Relations
and Communications, Director of Public Issues and a member of
the Management Committee of Dow Chemical Canada, earning many
national and international awards in the process. Don retired
from Dow in 1988 at age 60. Left behind to mourn his loss and
to remember and celebrate his life are Betty, his loving (and
very patient) wife and partner of 54 years; sons (and occasional
troublemakers) John (Barbara
KEMENY) of Thunder Bay; Chris (Lynn
FOSTER) of Richmond Hill; and Mark (Kerri-Lea
DEMARSH) of Corunna,
Ontario; grandchildren Laura and Andrew (John,) Bill
FOSTER
(Chris▲▼
and Lynn) and Luke and Amber-Lea (Mark and Kerri;) Helen
STEPHENSON
(mother of Laura and Andrew;) his cousins, Doctor Betty
STEPHENSON,
Dr. Alan PENGELLY,
Faye
WEISS and Joan
STEPHENSON, his 'in-laws'
Howard and Ivy
WILCE,
Sandie
WILCE and Howard
HARVEY and his
numerous nieces and nephews on the Wilce side of the family.
Don was the only
son of and predeceased by his father, Roscoe
Cecil (1889-1962) and his mother Leta Louella (née
(LAPP1890-1969.))
Don will also be fondly and humourously remembered by his large
family of long time, close and loyal Friends, affectionately
known as 'the gang'. Too numerous to mention here, they need
only know that he is counting on them to make the 'happening'
a memorable party. Don will also be remembered by his many Friends
in the extended Stephenson and Legge families with whom he had
connected in later years as he worked on the greatest of his
many projects - The Stephenson and Legge Chronicles. As it was
during his working career Don's retirement was enriched by his
enjoyment of his many projects and activities - boating, gardening,
travelling with Betty, making wine, woodworking, photography,
and his genealogical work. Our lives are enriched by his legacy:
the family history he wrote, his many wonderful photographs and
the beautiful pieces of furniture he made. Most of all, we are
enriched by having known him and by our memories of him. At Don's
request, there will not be a funeral service and his ashes will
be privately interred. A 'happening' in memory and celebration
of Don's life will take place at the Sarnia Golf and Curling
Club on Saturday, April 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Memorial donations
in Don's name may be made to Blue Water Health Intensive Care
Unit, 89 Norman Street, Sarnia, Ontario N7T 6S3.
