Herbert Clifton EBY of Feversham passed away in Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre on January 7, 2006 in his 90th year.
Herb was born in Elsinor, Ontario on August 8, 1916, the son of the late Gideon and Georgina EBY. In 1926 the EBY's left the farm at Elsinor and moved to Feversham and purchased what was to become known as "Eby's Store".
Herb aftended public and continuation school in Feversham and in 1936 he married Madge DAVIDSON. The young couple resided in the apartment above the family store and Herb worked for his father. In 1937 their son Stephen was born and shortly thereafter, Herb, Madge and baby moved to Barrie where he worked at a hardware store and drove a taxi.
In 1946 they returned to Feversham to take over the general store as the elder EBY's moved to Walters Falls. In 1950 their daughter, Sally May, was born. Herb purchased an insurance business from Norman HARRIS and for the next 15 years he and Madge operated the store and the insurance business.
Herb was an active member of many community organizations and as many of his generation was involved in getting what is now known as the "old community centre" established. He enjoyed many years in the bowling league there. The church was an important part of the EBY's life and for 40 years Herb was an Elder at Burns' Presbyterian Church in Feversham.
1986 was a landmark year for the EBY's as they celebrated 40 years of operating the store, their 50th wedding anniversary and made the decision to sell the store and retire to the home they purchased in the village.
Left to mourn his passing are Madge, his wife of 69 years, son Steve, daughter Sally, son-in-law John HOOD, grand_son Kevin HOOD, sisters Marguerite FORSYTH and Marion DOBIE as well as many nieces, nephews and Friends.
A funeral service was held in Burns Church on January 10, 2006 with Dr. David GLADWELL officiating. Pallbearers were Kevin HOOD, Todd ARMSTRONG, Scott ARDIEL, Bill BRISTOW, Wayne DAVIDSON, Lonnie HUDSON. Honourary pallbearers were Elmer MULLIN, Bruce DOUGLAS/DOUGLASS, Lloyd HUDSON, Burt HALE and Murray LASHOVICH.
Flowerbearers were Reta PHILLIPS, Bonnie DAVIDSON, Carol WAGSTAFF, Mary Lynn McCAULEY, Pamela BRISTOW, Cindi ALLEN, April HUBBARD, Lois PLUMMER and Jane ARDIEL. An excellent eulogy was provided by Burt HALE and a reading by John HOOD. Evelyn DARGAVEL and Kenton HUDSON shared their gift of music and Burt HALE, Rev. Charles JACKSON, Barbara SHIER and Kenton HUDSON sang "Because He Lives". Following the service a large crowd enjoyed the wonderful lunch organized by the Osprey Museum Committee assisted by Friends in the community.
Herb will be remembered for his quiet, gentle manner and he will be missed walking the streets of Feversham with his wee dog Lori.

Of Saint Thomas, passed away at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, March 19, 2006, in her 78th year. Dearly loved sister of Ruth WARK of Saint Thomas, and Violet JONES of Exeter. Special friend and cousin of Grace MERRITT of Saint Thomas. Also fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. A brother, Thomas CAMPBELL died overseas during the Second World War while serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force and a sister, Eva FORSYTH died in 1980. Born in Saint Thomas, November 30, 1928, the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (REYNOLDS) CAMPBELL, she lived in Saint Thomas except for time spent in Peterborough (1950-1953) and Hayriver, N.W.T. (1972-1977). Mary worked as a Registered Nursing Assistant for 19 years at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital. She was a member of the Saint Thomas Pentecostal Assembly. Born May 18, 1920 at Emerson, Manitoba to Leonard MAIER and Emily (KRUGER) both of Volyhnia, Russia. The family was of German Lutheran descent. Helena, known as Helen, was a teacher and served as a translator with the Canadian Army during World War 2. Married George TEATHER on February 16th, 1952 at London. After George's retirement from the military in 1962, they settled in Thamesford where they raised a family of two boys. George was active with the Lions Club and Helen was active with the Anglican Church Women. George and Helen moved to London in 1980. Predeceased by her loving husband, Maj. George L. TEATHER in 1990. Dear mother of Andrew (Kim) of Ottawa and Thomas (Joanne) of Springfield. Stepmother of Linda TEATHER of Waterloo. Proud grandmother of five grandchildren: David, Jennifer, Jacob, Joshua and Julie. She was the last surviving member of her own immediate family, having been predeceased by a sister, Florence JONES and three brothers, Lewis, George A. and Samuel W. HUNTER. Robert was born in Montreal on October 7, 1928, the son of the late Thomas and Agnes (NEILL) FORSYTHE. Robert has lived in Saint Thomas since 1974 and formerly of Valcartier, Quebec. He worked for the O.P.P. in Communications Dispatch. He was with the Canadian Armed Forces 1951-1977 (Royal Canadian Dragoons, 12e R.B.C., Elgin Regiment and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. D'Iberville FORTIER died peacefully in his home on Saturday April 22, 2006 at the age of 80. He leaves behind his wife, Marie-Thérèse ALLÉGRET, his children, Sébastien and Valérie, his sister Colette (Paul DUFRESNE) and his brother Roland (Mercedès LOSIER.) Mr. FORTIER had a distinguished career in Canada's Diplomatic Service. Joining the Department of External Affairs in 1952, he held a variety of functions in Canada and abroad. He represented Canada on the Armistice Commission in Vietnam, served as head of the press office of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, served consecutively as Canada's ambassador to Tunisia, Italy, Belgium and assumed various important functions in the Department in Ottawa. He was then appointed and served for 7 years as Canada's Official Languages Commissioner, crowning in this function his lifelong contributions to the promotion of the French language in Canada. Mr. FORTIER was awarded the medal of officer of the order of Canada. He leaves behind the memory of a man of culture, profoundly honest and generous, endowed with both humor and critical sense, but above all bon vivant. Petrolia man dies in sport utility vehicle crash

A Petrolia man died Saturday after the sport utility vehicle he was driving missed a curve and careened over a cliff in Lambton County, tumbling down a ravine into a creek.
Dennis M. HARTMAN, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene
Two female passengers survived the crash in Enniskillen Township. Chantal FORTIN, 34, of Petrolia was able to crawl out of the densely wooded ravine and went to a nearby home to get help. The resident of the home went to the crash site and found Caitey Kali FORTIN, 29, the sister of Chantal. She had also managed to get out of the vehicle, but suffered more serious injuries. Both were treated in hospital in Petrolia.
The crash occurred on Rokeby Line east of Fairweather Road.
The incident occurred when the westbound sport utility vehicle on Rokeby Line missed a curve in the road and struck a cable on the south side. When rescue workers arrived, the vehicle was partially submerged.

Born in Montreal to Germaine neé FORTIN and Arthur BARRÉ, he was the third of four children. His childhood was rapscallion. He joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1950 and met his wife Eileen neé GREENE on Labour Day of the same year. They were married in 1955 and two children, a daughter and a son, came into the world in 1956 and 1959. He left the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and worked at a handful of jobs until he started with 3M in 1965, where he stayed for 32 years. After retiring, he worked and played at The Home Depot. He was always up to something, even if, at times, no one quite knew what it was. He was a skilled woodworker, a sometime artist, a bonsai aficionado and much else. A "gentleman of calibre" and a gleam ever in his eye, unforgettable, he will be sorely missed by his daughter, Lynn (Bill LA HAM,) his son, Geoffrey, his grandchildren, Jessica and Claire LA HAM, and Selena BARRÉ, his wife, Eileen, and many others too numerous to mention. There will be a visitation at Turner and Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga (Hwy. 10 north of Queen Elizabeth Way) from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 11. All who knew him are welcome. Instead of flowers, please make a donation in his name either to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association

La famille désire remercier le personnel de l'Entraide Ville-Marie, du centre local de services communautaires Verdun, et des départements de Pneumologie et d'Oncologie du CHUM. La famille accueillera parents et amis à la Communauté chrétienne Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys, 286 Elgar, Île-des-Soeurs, à partir de 13 hres mardi, le 30 mai et une messe suivra a 14 hres. At Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto on Wednesday April 5, 2006. Betty Jean (ANSELL) BROWN was the beloved wife of Wayne BROWN of Beaverton. Loved mother and grandmother of Dave and his wife Lynda and their children Jeremy, Joey and Katlyn of Beaverton, Mike and his wife Louise and their children Matthew, Jenna and Cooper of Kitchener, Sheri and her husband Mike FORTIN and their children Mykayla and Adam of Almonte, and Dale and his wife Tanya of Beaverton. Sister of Alex ANSELL of Aurora and the late Marg ANSELL. The family will receive Friends at the Mangan Funeral Home, Beaverton (705-426-5777) on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday at the Beaverton Presbyterian Church from 12 noon until 2 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held in the Beaverton Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. The family would appreciate memorial donations to the Beaverton Meals on Wheels or the Hospital for Sick Children.
