MOIR, Sister Eleanore, C.S.J.
Peacefully, after a brief illness at Saint_Joseph's Motherhouse, Hamilton on March 16, 2006, in her 68th year as a Sister of Saint_Joseph. Daughter of the late Milas Paul MOIR and Catherine Theresa BROPHY. Predeceased by her sisters Mrs. Mary (George) DALES, Mrs. Ada (Anthony) FITZMAURICE, Mrs. Josephine (Joseph) MOORE, Mrs. Anne (Edward) STAHLBRODT, and Winnifred MOIR. Survived by her sisters Mrs. Jean (Edward) BAUER, Sister Mary William (Grace) C.S.J. (London), many nieces and nephews and the members of her religious family, the Sisters of Saint_Joseph of Hamilton. The Sisters of Saint_Joseph will welcome family and Friends at Saint_Joseph's Convent, Hamilton from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6: 30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 20. A Vigil Service will be held on Monday, March 20 at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 21 at 10 a.m. at Saint_Joseph's Convent, Hamilton. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In 1942, Sister Eleanore graduated from Hamilton Normal School and began a lifelong ministry as a religious educator. She received her Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University in 1950. A lifelong learner herself, Sister Eleanore holds a myriad of specialist certificates and a host of post graduate credit courses taken to enhance her ministry of education. Sister taught in the primary grades in Hamilton, Brantford, Kenilworth and Dawson Creek. At the secondary level, she taught for seven years at Cathedral Girl's High School in Hamilton. She devoted 23 years of her ministry to the pupils of Saint_John's College in Brantford as a much appreciated and respected teacher and mentor. After her retirement from teaching, Sister Eleanore's interest in people invited her into the ministry of Pastoral Care. Integrity called her to become C.A.P.P.E. certified in order to be as prepared as possible to minister to God's people. She exercised her ministry of care at Saint_Joseph's Hospital, Brantford, Saint_Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton and Hamilton General Hospital through St. Patrick's Parish, Hamilton. One particular facet of her pastoral work delighted her heart and that was her volunteer ministry as a rehabilitation and pastoral care worker at Burtch Correctional Institute in Brantford and at Brantford City Jail. Later, she volunteered as a literacy instructor at Hamilton City Jail. Sister Eleanore's long commitment to the education of young people and an engagement with their needs in these complex times gave her a particular compassion and sensitivity for troubled youth and those caught in the trap of drug and other addictions. In 2001, declining health forced Sister Eleanore to give up her active involvement in the ministry and she turned her full attention to the ministry of prayer for the many intentions that came her way, never forgetting those whose plight had claimed her attention during her years of active ministry. The absence of Sister Eleanore's serene, generous and prayerful self will linger forever.

WOODSIDE, Peggy (formerly DEVITT, née THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON)
Mother died on December 16, 2006 at Toronto East General Hospital. Peggy was born the fourth of four children in Toronto on August 13, 1921, to most beloved parents the Reverend and Mrs. B.W. THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON (Eva LOW/LOWE/LOUGH of Renfrew, Ontario.) Secondary schooling occurred in Kingston, Ontario, after which she graduated from Queen's University in 1943. In 1944, she attended the College of Education in Toronto, later teaching at Renfrew Collegiate, South Collegiate in London, Ontario, and Western Technical School in Toronto. From 1964 to 1986, Peggy taught at Leaside High School (Toronto). After her marriage to Bill DEVITT in 1947, they moved to Leaside where they raised their three children, Bill, Patricia (Pat) and Peggy-Anne. Immediately they became active in the community, at school, church and in sporting events. Having lived in Leaside for over fifty years, Peggy cherished her life-long Friends and neighbours. She was grateful for the warmth of their affection, in particular the staff and students at Leaside High School, her very close Friends at Northlea United Church, where she was an active member. In 1964, Peggy faced a sudden challenge, her husband died at age 45. Mother's indomitable spirit, and courage, her work ethic and the dedication to her loving children remained steadfast. Peggy resumed her teaching career at Leaside High School in 1964. She had many Friends and a wide range of interests such as The Book Club, music, theatre and her secret passion for sports and athletics scarcely ever missing a game on television. Much of the family socializing over the years occurred at the cottage on Danforth Lake, Quebec where her children and grandchildren have such fun and good times. In 1994, Peggy married Caryle WOODSIDE, a former Queen's University friend, who died suddenly in 1997. She is predeceased by her two husbands, two brothers, sister Evelina "Ev" (1985) and her daughter Patricia (1987). She will be lovingly remembered by her families Bill and Glynis DEVITT, Laurel and Robert; Peggy-Anne and Robert VAN VLIET, Kristyn and Jenna; Bill and Eileen FITZPATRICK, Allison and Ryan, Richard and Nancy WOODSIDE, John and Emma, a niece Elizabeth HUTCHINGS, nephews David and Peter THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON. Mother will be remembered for her guidance, support and generosity; her loyalty to and her love for her children, grandchildren and Friends. The family will receive Friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East) from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2006. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 in Northlea United Church, 125 Brentcliffe Road, Toronto. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery. If desired, donations in Peggy's name may be made to Northlea United Church, Family Practice Unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Canadian Institute for the Blind or a charity of your choice.
