HUNTER,
Eleanor (née
THOMAS-
ZUGLOFF)
Beloved and best friend of sons Alan and David (Jone) and grand_son
Kyle EVAN. Dear sister of Stephen. Daughter of the late Vana
and Spero THOMAS-
ZUGLOFF and sister of the late Jimmy. Eleanor
was the past first President of the Ladies Auxiliary from June
1963-July 1965 of the first Macedonian Orthodox Church - St.
Clement of Ohrid Cathedral who worked tirelessly to help see
it built. She was a prior manager of Vic Tanney's Health Clubs
whose numerous members and prior staff kept in touch with her
throughout the years. She cared for people. She always found
time to listen to their problems and helped any way she could.
Her family was the most important part of her life. She cared
and loved us. Her regrets are not being able to enjoy the Young
and the Restless, tennis, baseball and most importantly music
which she loved - R and B, jazz and classical. Good for the soul
she would say and dance. Private family Panachyda will be held
this Tuesday March 7th to mark the 40th day of Eleanor's passing.

possibly can"

SHANAHAN,
Frances
Lucy
(March 6, 1959-May 23, 2006)
With deep sadness we mourn the loss of our dear sister Frances.
Much loved and sorrowfully missed by her mother Mary
SHANAHAN,
Frances was predeceased by her father John
SHANAHAN in 1972.
Brothers and sisters Frederick, Maria, John, Martin, Thomas,
Theresa, Eileen and Margaret have lost a trusted and constant
companion. Frances was sister-in-law and friend to Lilian, Susan
and Laura SHANAHAN, also Chris
McDONALD,
Mark
LANIGAN and Andrew
EVANGELISTA.
She was devoted to her nieces and nephews Niall,
Claire, Miriam, Fiona, Aislynn, John Anthony, Mary, Michael,
Martin, Joseph, Adam, Ruth, John Patrick, Julia, Sophia, Luke
and Maria. Frances delighted in all the children and loved them
dearly. Her kindness and compassion, coupled with an unwavering
family loyalty, bonded her in a unique and special way to each
member of her family. Frances enriched all our lives with her
insight, intelligence and humour. Her innate ability to evoke
the best in people - listening, understanding and caring for
others - endeared her to family and Friends alike. In her final
illness Frances gathered her family around her and we drew inspiration
from the courage and strength of her brave spirit. The joy of
her presence will be ever present for us in the enduring memories
of her sweet and lovely nature. We seem to give them back to
you, O God, You who gave them to us, Yet as you did not lose
them in giving So do we not lose them by their return... And
life is eternal and love is immortal and death is only a horizon
and an horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight. Lift us
up, strong son of God that we may see further; cleanse our eyes
that we may see more clearly. Draw us closer to yourself that
we may know ourselves to be nearer our loved ones who are with
you. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude
to Doctor Robert
SAULS for his patience and compassion. Also, thanks
to the dedicated staff of Oncology/Palliative Care (2c) at Credit
Valley Hospital. Friends may call at the Turner and Porter Butler
Chapel, 4933 Dundas Street West, Etobicoke (between Islington
and Kipling Aves.) on Sunday from 6-9 p.m. and
on Monday from
6-9 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday,
May 30, 2006 at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3055 Bloor
St. W., Etobicoke (W. of Royal York Rd.). Interment Assumption
Cemetery, Mississauga. For those who wish, donations may be made

BODNAR,

Jay, Calli, Tegan, Ryan, Eric, Alexandra and Lara. Predeceased
by her parents Roderick and Margaret
MacDONALD (née
MONTGOMERY)
her brothers Jack, Alister, and Roderick; and sister Peggy (Margaret)
PORTER.
Born in 1922 in Stornaway, Scotland on the Isle of Lewis,
she was only three years of age when her mother, father, and
two older brothers left for a better life in Canada. After settling
in Toronto, she and her brothers learned English, although Gaelic
remained the predominant language spoken at home. Her family
came from modest means but they managed to afford highland dancing
lessons for her at a local dance school. When the depression
hit in 1929, her family moved to Fort William, now Thunder Bay,
where she continued her dancing and won many championships. She
also played the bagpipes in the Fort William Girls Pipe Band.
It was in Fort William that she also met her husband of 57 years
and high school sweetheart, Gus
BODNAR.
Etta was a devoted wife
and with his successful hockey career as player, and later coach
and manager which frequently caused him to be away from home,
she raised their five children all the while creating a home
environment that emphasized family and fostered interests and
opportunities that were not possible when she was growing up.
Etta and Gus enjoyed spending time with and entertaining their
many Friends, as well as her adventures with Bonnie and Paul
in the far northern reaches of the Yukon, with Carolyn and Peter
returning to Etta's native Scotland, with Andrea and John in
sunny Bermuda, and with Cheryl and Brian in Ontario's cottage
country. Etta particularly enjoyed her time with Gus, and their
many Friends and family at their winter home in Lake Placid,
Florida, playing golf and relaxing in the warm southern climate.
Etta was active throughout her life, not only with highland dancing
(she could still do a fling in her 70's) but golf and curling
and she maintained a regular exercise routine throughout her
80's. She adored her grandchildren and took pleasure in seeing
them blossom through the years. She will be very much missed
as a loving and devoted wife, mother, nana and friend. In accordance
with Etta's wishes a private family gathering was held. In lieu
of flowers, charitable receipted donations can be made in Etta's
memory to the Highland Dancers Association of Ontario c/o 24 Baymark

HOWARD, J.F., Q.C.
On Saturday, June 3, 2006 Jake died at home surrounded by his
family and Friends, having lived a full and accomplished life
full of love, laughter and with almost all of his ambitions and
wishes fulfilled. He will be sorely missed by his wife of 55 years,
Nancy, his children, their spouses and grandchildren, Gillian
Peter and Leslie; Ian, Robin, Christopher, Daniel and Rachael
and Margot, Peter, Jake and Anne. All of the family always felt
his love, support and delight in their successes and sought his
wisdom and gentle counsel when things went awry. After serving
in Canada's navy Jake graduated with a B.Comm. from the University
of Toronto and then from Osgoode Hall. Jake was a partner at
Blake, Cassels and Graydon LLP, where he began his practice of
law in 1953. He was called to the Bar in Ontario, Saskatchewan,
and Alberta and was named Queen's Counsel in 1966. His practice
was commercial litigation before all levels of all courts and
he participated in numerous special inquiries and administrative
tribunals. He was a member of the Advocates Society, a Fellow
of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and the first recipient
of the Douglas K. Laidlaw Medal for Outstanding Advocacy in 1990.
He was known for his ability to analyze cases quickly and completely
and was a confident and accomplished advocate. He was also a
natural teacher and a mentor to many young lawyers, both in his
firm and throughout the profession. When Jake reduced his legal
practice, he was appointed a Commissioner of the Ontario Securities
Commission where he gladly contributed his wisdom and experience.
Jake was an exceptional athlete being an accomplished skier,
fly fisher, golfer, sailor and horseman, the latter being an
interest which would occupy an important place in his later years.
He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Woodbine Entertainment
Group from the mid-eighties, having served as Chair and then
Honourary Chair at Woodbine where he was deeply respected for
his work that ensured thoroughbred and harness racing in the
Province of Ontario continued to thrive. Winning a major stakes
race at Woodbine remains an unfulfilled wish, but perhaps that's
yet to come. The family would like to express their deepest thanks
