DUNCAN, John Leslie
John Leslie DUNCAN entered into rest in Centre Grey Hospital, Markdale on Monday, December 19, 2005 at 76 years old. He was the dearly loved husband of Marion (BAKER) DUNCAN of 52 years. A wonderful father to his three girls: Carolyne HOOD of Evansburg, Alberta; Dianne VAN BLITTERSWYK and her husband Bob of Brockville Barb GROSS and her husband Gord of Burlington and David KENNEDY and his wife Donia of Brampton. He was loved and respected by his eight grandchildren: Andrew and Robert HOOD, Jared, Devin and Deane VAN BLITTERSWYK, Braeden and Ethan GROSS and Keira KENNEDY, plus several loved nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his sisters, Christina (Charles) JACKSON and Irene DUNCAN his brother Edgar DUNCAN (Liz;) his sisters-in-law, Eileen BAKER and Verna SNOW and his brother-in-law, Allan (Marie) BAKER.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Pearl DUNCAN and son-in-law David HOOD.
Leslie was born April 11, 1929, raised on the Duncan homestead north of Dundalk on Highway 10 and attended S.S.#4 Artemesia. In June 1953 he married the love of his life, Marion BAKER in the Pilgrim Holiness Church of Proton Station where he took his family to church regularly. He was a board member and usher for several years. In more recent years, Les and Marion attend the Orangeville Baptist Church where they have made many meaningful relationships.
Les was passionate about his family and farming. He loved his wife and family and enjoyed his cattle and animals. He farmed right up until this past Thanksgiving, 2005 when he had his farm auction. He was looking forward to a well-earned retirement and selling the farm. Les also enjoyed his neighbours and Friends and always lent a hand wherever he could.
Les was admitted to Markdale Hospital December 14 where he suffered from heart complications, a stroke and passed away suddenly Monday, December 19 from a massive heart attack.
A complete funeral service was held Thursday December 22 at 1 p.m. at the McMillan and Jack Funeral Home, Dundalk, officiated by Pastor Earl MARSHALL of Orangeville Baptist Church and assisted by Reverend Al VARDY of Dundalk Wesleyan. Two special songs were sung by his brothers-in-law, Allan BAKER and Charlie JACKSON, accompanied by Audrey OLDFIELD. Heartfelt eulogies were shared by son-in-law, Bob VAN BLITTERSWYK and David KENNEDY. Pallbearers were family and Friends, Andrew and Robert HOOD, Gord GROSS, Jim ELLIS, Mark▼ NICHOLLS and Phillip BANNON. Honorary pallbearers were close Friends and neighbours Doug NICHOLLS, Bill STOCKS, Norman ACHESON, Rick GORETSKY, Doug RODGERS, Morley JANES, Vernon ATKINSON, Glenn SCOTT, Don CAMERON and Calvin BAILIE. His five younger grandchildren were flowerbearers. Spring internment will be at Bethel Cemetery.
Les' legacy as shared at his funeral is defined by "Family" being important, "Faith"; steadfast and sure, "Fun"; put it in daily living and "Friends"; lend a hand And make a friend. Too know Dad was to love him and we; miss him greatly!

Gerald “Jerry” Milton GATEMAN of Chesley, passed away after a challenging ten years on June 5, 2006 at the Hanover and District Hospital in his 70th year. Beloved husband and best friend of Iris GATEMAN. Loving father of Cathy (Bob) of Tiverton, Paul and his wife Sandra of Chesley and Barry of Chesley. Cherished grandfather of Derek, Scott, and Lisa. Dear brother of Carol of Chatham, Eleanor (Buck) and Ruth (Murray) all of Georgetown, Glenna (Bruce) of Gormley, Don and Jim (Anne) all of Elmwood. With dignity and grace, surrounded by her devoted children and grandchildren on January 2, 2006. Our mother lived her 81 years with a fierce independence, but such a kind spirit that touched the lives of her sisters, children, her Friends and all who came in contact with her. She was a constant friend and mentor to us all. Mom is now with her friend and husband, our father William (Bill) LONGMORE, who passed away 20 years ago December 24, 1985. Mother devoted all of her time to others through her quilting and charitable causes and was an active member of the London Health Science Centre Hospital Auxiliary as Convenor for the Boutique and Flower Shop. Mother was a daughter and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Maple, Ruth and Bethlehem Chapters. She was an active member of the Glamis Quilters and a past member of the Friendship Quilters. Predeceased by her sisters Joan WADSWORTH and Marjorie FELLOWS and survived by her sisters Phyllis ELLIS and Joan DE BRUYNE (George). Duo sought after killing

Toronto -- Police were searching for a young mother and her seven-month-old daughter who may have a connection to Toronto's latest homicide.
Police found the body of Christopher PELLEW, 22, in north Toronto Sunday.
Investigators discovered a trail in the mud suggesting the body had been dragged about 50 metres, Supt. Roy PILKINGTON said. It led to a basement apartment.
When police arrived, the front door was open. Tenants Zalika ELLIS, 19, and her seven-month-old daughter, Zahara, were gone.
"It was apparent that they had left in quite the hurry," PILKINGTON said.
ELLIS's family is concerned for her safety, police said.

With heavy hearts but loving memories, we announce the passing of a kind and respected man on Friday, April 28, 2006. Stan BODALY leaves to mourn his loving wife of 60 years, Betty (Elizabeth HEATH), his dear daughters, Gail SWAINSON (John), Susan LITTLE (David,) Donna TELL (Randy) and Anne GUARD, his wonderful Grandchildren: Simon (Susan), Tracey (Andre), Jim (Elizabeth), Jarrett (Julie), Jeffrey, Corinne, Steven, Tara (Jason), Matthew, Katie and Brittany and three precious Great Grandchildren: Kylie, Cohen and Bronwyn, his sister Joan EVANS (Royce,) sisters-in-law June BODALY and Margaret ELLIS and many nieces and nephews. His first love was his family but he was a man of many interests, woodworking, carving, fishing, history and traveling to name a few. Passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 10, 2006 in Kingston, Ontario at the age of 90. Andy is predeceased by his beloved wife, Ena, who passed away on May 1, 2006. Andy's gentle and encouraging presence will be deeply missed by his loving daughters Valerie and husband Alfred FISHER of Kingston, Ontario, Marilyn and partner Patricia VANDERHEYDEN of London, Ontario and Debbie and husband Barry McGUGAN of St. Albert, Alberta. Andy is survived by his dear grandchildren: Benjamin and Laura FISHER, Michelle, Sarah, Hannah and Joel VANDERHEYDEN, and Bobby and Brent McGUGAN. He will be greatly missed by his brother James as well as many loving relatives and cherished Friends. Andy is also predeceased by his parents James and Catherine (CLARK,) and his brothers Sam, Al, Jim and sisters Jean (LEES) and Mary (TALLON.) Andy▼ will be remembered for his wisdom, compassion, quiet wit, and his love for his wife and three daughters. Andy emigrated with his family from Hamilton, Scotland as a young boy and settled in Espanola, Ontario. He met and married Ena in Espanola, where they shared 64 wonderful years together. Andy's educational career began at Normal School in North Bay, Ontario. Later, he graduated from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After only two years of teaching at Espanola Public School, Andy was appointed principal, a position he held for 40 years. Andy's deep commitment to education continued throughout his life. He retired at the age of 63, having spent 56 years of his life, both as a student and then as a member of the staff, in the same school building. It was a wonderful tribute that upon his retirement in 1978, the school was re-named the A.B. Ellis Public School. He was an inspiration to many students and teachers during his long and distinguished career. A memorial Service▼ will be held for Andy and Ena ELLIS on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at 11: 30 a.m. in the United Church of Espanola with Reverend Cory VERMEER- CUTHBERT officiating. Interment of ashes will be in the Espanola Cemetery. Family and Friends will be invited to a luncheon after the committal service. Violet was born in Caledon, Ontario and resided in Sarnia. She was the daughter of the late Jemima PETCH and William TRIBBLE. Predeceased by her loving husband, Michael Henry DRONYK who died in June 1993. They were married October 26, 1940. North York shooting is city's 11th homicide

Police were searching North York yesterday for a young mother and her seven-month-old daughter who may have a connection to the city's latest homicide.
At 9 p.m. Sunday, police found the body of 22-year-old Christopher PELLEW on Lindylou Road, in the Finch Avenue West and Weston Road area of North York.
Mr. PELLEW, Toronto's 11th homicide this year, was fatally shot in the chest, police say.
Superintendent Roy PILKINGTON of 31 Division said that after finding the body, investigators discovered a trail in the mud that suggested the body had been dragged about 50 metres through several backyards.
The trail led police to a basement apartment on Daystrom Drive, directly behind Lindylou Road, where the shooting is believed to have occurred.
When police arrived at the residence, across the street from Daystrom Public School, the front door was open and the lights on. The tenants, Zalika ELLIS, 19, and her seven-month-old daughter, Zahara, were gone.
"It was apparent that they had left in quite the hurry," Supt. PILKINGTON said.
Ms. ELLIS's family, who contacted police after hearing about the incident, are concerned for the young woman's safety, police said.
Neighbours on Daystrom Drive, a residential street lined with semi-detached houses, describe Ms. ELLIS as a caring young mother.
"We've never had any trouble with her before," said her next-door neighbour, Christan GAIBOR.
"She's a good mother who keeps to herself," Christan's father, Medardo, added.
"I feel really shocked," said one neighbour who asked not to be named.
"We live in a safe family community with children and schools and parks. This sort of thing just doesn't happen here."
"It's really sad," said a young neighbour who lives adjacent to Ms. ELLIS's home. "I didn't see what happened last night but I'm still scared."
Neighbouring homes were cordoned off by police yesterday and several vehicles were impounded, including one rental car that police believe is associated with the incident.
Mr. PELLEW was "very well known to police" with a "significant criminal record for various crimes," Supt. PILKINGTON said.

Ena will be missed by her dear sister Marjorie JOHNSTON of Gravenhurst, Ontario as well as many loving relative and cherished Friends. JONES, Eileen M. (formerly BATTEN)
Born in 1916 in London, England, in her youth she was an outstanding athlete. She was a Southern England diving champion and member of Hampstead's Mermaid Club, home to Olympic class swimming and diving athletes. She was ranked for the British Olympic Diving Team; however, the cancellation of the Olympic Games due to World War 2 ended her active involvement in competitive aquatic sports. She attended Barrett Street School as a scholarship student. Eileen married Jack BATTEN In 1939. After the birth of their two sons, they immigrated to Canada in the 1950's, settling in Beloeil, Quebec. Jack died in 1975. The following year she married Elwyn JONES, and moved to Kingston, Ontario. Elwyn and Eileen enjoyed a wonderful life together in Kingston, and made many Friends through their involvement in cultural activities, organ, choral music, and theatre. They shared a keen love of the waters of the Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario, and spent many hours exploring the coastline and harbours. After the death of Elwyn in 1997, Eileen remained for a time in Kingston. She moved to Toronto in 2003 to be near family members. In failing health for some time, she died peacefully on Thursday, April 26th, with family at her side. She is predeceased by two sisters, Marjorie and Jessie. She is survived and sadly missed by her sister Mabel (United Kingdom,) brother-in-law Rene, her sons, Anthony BATTEN, Toronto, and Geoffrey BATTEN (Sandra,) Calgary, and her grandchildren Justin (Heidi), David (Carmen), Samantha and Victoria (Kyle) and great grandchildren Jack, Anthony, and Eric. Also by her step-children, Margaret GIBSON (Alan), Helen ELLIS, Trevor JONES and Victor JONES (Muriel) and grandchildren Molly, Lizzie, Conrad, Emma, Ghita and Morgan. And by special family Friends, Mona and Robert, by the Gibson children, Brett, Duane, and Cara, by Zee and Terry SMITH, and children, Zachary and Bronwen, and by extended family in the United Kingdom and Australia. 69, of Wolfville, Nova Scotia and formerly of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away suddenly at home on May 3, 2006. Born in Bombay, India, he was the son of Harry Austin ELLIS, a railroad engineer, and Elsie (HOCKING) ELLIS, a nurse. He grew up in Coventry, England, and attained his medical degree from the University of Birmingham, England, in 1960. In 1965, he emigrated to Canada with his first wife Freda (BARTHOLOMEW) ELLIS, settling first in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, then Oshawa, Ontario and then Ottawa, Ontario. He was a radiologist, practicing for many years in Ottawa and then in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, before finally retiring in 1997 in Wolfville. He is survived by his loving and beloved wife Norma (WHEELER) ELLIS, with whom he recently and joyously celebrated his 26th wedding anniversary, his son Richard (Dawn EDLUND,) of Ottawa, daughter Rowena, of Ottawa, sister Sheila (Frank)Stenton, of Coventry, England, brothers-in-law Raymond (Jennifer) WHEELER, of Cobble Hill, British Columbia and Roger (Trudy) BARTHOLOMEW of Corning, New York, nephews Tony STENTON of London, England John (Kimberly) BARTHOLOMEW of Portland, Oregon, their son Dylan, and niece Lesley BARTHOLOMEW of Providence, Rhode Island. Passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21st, 2006, at Pine Grove Nursing Home where she had been a resident since November 2003. Born in Campbellton, New Brunswick on May 28, 1923 she was the daughter of Sydney and Jennie (WARD) JAMIESON. She graduated from Campbellton High School in 1941 receiving the Lieutenant Governor's Medal. Prior to her marriage she worked for a period of time with Canadian National Railways. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Glendon "Spud"; two loving daughters, Jane CROZIER- ELLIS (Hugh) of Bathurst and Diane CROZIER of Moncton one special granddaughter Lauren ELLIS. As the youngest child in a close and loving family of seven brothers and sisters, she is survived by her sister, Mrs. Florence LYON of Etobicoke, Ontario brother Doctor James JAMIESON of North Bay, Ontario and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Lloyd "Lanky", Harold and Laine JAMIESON and sister Bernice HUTCHINSON/HUTCHISON. During her lifetime Huddie maintained a strong commitment to family and an optimistic outlook at all times. She displayed an attitude of caring and a devotion to helping others, especially the elderly. She was a longtime member of the United Church, the United Church Women and the Canadian Parkinson Society. She valued and cultivated the many personal Friendships she made over the course of her lifetime. She derived her greatest joy from family gatherings, good food, a great bridge hand a colorful joke. She loved music, reading and reciting poems and was well known for her quick wit and embellishment of any story worth telling and what story wasn't! It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George LANE, L.L.M., Q.C. on Sunday, June 4th, 2006. He is predeceased by his parents Maximillian and Florence LANE and his wife Olga. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Catherine LANE and son-in-law Clive ELLIS and is survived by his dear friend Rene DEETH. George served in the Royal Air Force as a Typhoon pilot, and was a P.O.W. in Barth, Germany. After his service he received his Bachelor of Laws at Osgoode Hall, his L.L.M. at York University and was appointed to the Queen's Council in 1962. George was a partner at Jackson, Watson, Gillespie, Lane and Greenwood, and will be fondly remembered as an active citizen of the City of Mississauga. George was also a brother of the Masonic Lodge. Passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 10, 2006 in Kingston, Ontario at the age of 90. Andy is pre deceased by his beloved wife, Ena, who passed away on May 1, 2006. Andy's gentle and encouraging presence will be deeply missed by his loving daughters Valerie and husband Alfred FISHER of Kingston, Ontario, Marilyn and partner Patricia VANDERHEYDEN of London, Ontario and Debbie and husband Barry McGUGAN of St. Albert, Alberta. Andy is survived by his dear grandchildren: Benjamin and Laura FISHER, Michelle, Sarah, Hannah and Joel VANDERHEYDEN, and Bobby and Brent McGUGAN. He will be greatly missed by his brother James as well as many loving relatives and cherished Friends. Andy▲ will be remembered for his wisdom, compassion, quiet wit, and his love for his wife and three daughters. Andy emigrated with his family from Hamilton, Scotland as a young boy and settled in Espanola, Ontario. He met and married Ena in Espanola, where they shared 64 wonderful years together. Andy's educational career began at Normal School in North Bay, Ontario. Later, he graduated from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After only two years of teaching at Espanola Public School, Andy was appointed principal, a position he held for 40 years. Andy's deep commitment to education continued throughout his life. He retired at the age of 63, having spent 56 years of his life, both as a student and then as a member of the staff, in the same school building. It was a wonderful tribute that upon his retirement in 1978, the school was re-named the A.B. Ellis Public School. He was an inspiration to many students and teachers during his long and distinguished career. Our dear mother passed away in her sleep early on September 26. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Geoffrey. Left to cherish countless memories are daughter Judith (Jonathan RUBES) and son Trevor (Nancy); grandchildren Michael (Cathy), Glen, Dale (Martin,) and Morgan and Colin RUBES; great-granddaughter Audrey and many nieces and nephews. Her only sister, Joyce ELLIS, predeceased her this year. Mum was a generous hostess, an inventive decorator and painter, an exceptional knitter, and, right up to the last days, a killer Scrabble player. She considered herself extremely fortunate to have had 66 wonderfully happy years with Geoff, who left her side less than 6 months ago. Betty and Geoff met and married in war-time London in 1940, and their extraordinary partnership was often referred to by their many Friends as one of the "great romances." We are grateful that she is not alone any longer. The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to Helga MacGREGOR for all her loving care and support as well as the excellent nursing staff at Belmont House, Walker Wing 3 West. Art coached little league football, softball, and hockey in his community; he chaired church councils at Hillcrest United and Cookstown/Thornton United; he served as a director of the Broadview Foundation; and sat on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity. At Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario, peacefully, on October 24th, 2006 at age 70 after a nine-month battle with Multiple Myeloma.▲ Loving▲ husband of Ruth (MATHERS;) devoted father to Brad (Carolyn ELLIS), Scott (Wendy MOORE), and Linda (Eric PRINGLE) very proud grandfather of Andrew, Michaela, Schuyler, Liam and Zachery; and brother to Rene (Charles McCORMICK.) Art▲ graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1960 and earned his Masters in Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1961. Art joined Morrison Hershfield in 1962 and became President in 1991 and Chief Executive Officer / Chairman in 1993. Under his direction, the firm tripled in size and now has 11 offices in Canada and the United States. Art was distinguished by the Professional Engineers of Ontario when he was awarded the Gold Medal in 2002 and by the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers when he was awarded the National Gold Medal in 2003. Art coached little league football, softball, and hockey in his community; he chaired church councils at Hillcrest United and Cookstown/Thornton United; he served as a director of the Broadview Foundation; and sat on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity. Art loved golf, football, skiing, fishing, and cribbage. He was a talented artist and enjoyed cartooning. Art will be dearly missed by his loving family, Friends, and the communities he served throughout his life. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Princess Margaret, Stevenson Memorial, and Royal Victoria Hospitals who provided excellent care and kind support. A celebration of Art's life will take place on Saturday November 4th, 2006 at 11: 00 a.m. at Cookstown United Church, 37 Queen Street (Hwy 89), Cookstown, Ontario. ALLISON, Gerda Elizabeth (née FREMMING) M.D., B.Sc. (Med,) (F.R.C.P.C)
Passed away peacefully in Toronto on Sunday, January 29th, 2006 with her family members by her bedside. Dr. ALLISON was born September 17, 1913 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles C.S. FREMMING. She was educated in Winnipeg at Saint Mary's Academy and then graduated from the University of Manitoba with an M.D. degree, class of 1937. At graduation, she won three medals: the University of Manitoba Gold Medal, the Gold Medal in Surgery, and the Manitoba Medical Association Gold Medal for the highest standing in the course. In 1957, she was certified in Psychiatry becoming Manitoba's first woman psychiatrist and later the first woman President of the Manitoba Psychiatric Association. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Frederick Gerard ALLISON in 1989 along with whom she was an Associate Professor in the Faculties of Medicine and Psychiatry respectively at the University of Manitoba Health Sciences Centre. She was predeceased also by her brother Charles FREMMING in 1984 and by her sister Mrs. Austin DOUGLAS/DOUGLASS (Jean) of Ottawa, Ontario in 2005. Dr. ALLISON is survived by her beloved children, Dr. Richard Gerard ALLISON and his wife Robin of Fairview, Texas and his children Richard Gerard of California and Caroline ALLISON and her partner Dr. Dan ENGFER of Arlington, Virginia, daughter Rosemary and her husband Lyle W. NORRIE and their children Jennifer Allison BOOTH and her husband Patrick of London, England and John Gerard of Toronto, Ontario and daughter Lorraine C. ELLIS and her children Barbara and Pamela of Calgary, Alberta and four great-grandchildren, Hunter Gerard, Ella Anne and Eric Lewin ALLISON of California and Katherine Elizabeth Allison BOOTH of London, England. Left to mourn also are her sisters Mrs. Brooks RUSSELL (Ellen) of Seattle, Washington and sister-in-law Agathe FREMMING of Burnaby, British Columbia, family members in Denmark, several cousins, nieces, nephews and devoted Friends. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 4 at 11: 00 a.m. at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home and Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street, Toronto, Ontario, M4X 1K5.
