if roses grow in Heaven Lord,
Please pick a bunch for us.
Place them in Mother's arms,
And tell her they 're from us.
Tell her we love her and miss her,
And when she turns to smile.
Place a kiss upon her cheek,
And hold her for awhile.
Because remember her is easy,
We do it every day.
But there is an ache in our hearts,
That will never go away.
Loved and missed forever,

of her adult life in London and then Exeter where she raised
her three children with unconditional love and support. During
her time in Exeter, she started the first "Beavers" pack and

own and others enjoying themselves. She returned to London 15 years
ago, when her first diagnosis of breast cancer was received.
Thankfully, she had been symptom free since that early treatment,
and only very recently began the battle again. She spent her
last weeks at home, as was her wish. Her family offer sincere
thanks to Doctor Irene

of Evelyn during these last weeks. The Community Care Access

MITCHELL
of Montreal and White Rock (2003) and Doris
GROSE of Swift Current
(1999) and his brothers, Walter of Langley, British Columbia
(2005) and Lloyd of Montreal (1986). Cliff was born in Langham,
Saskatchewan and was always fiercely proud of his Saskatchewan
roots. He studied theology at St. Andrew's College in Saskatoon
and at Union Theological College, Columbia University in New
York where he obtained his doctorate with great distinction.
Ordained by The United Church of Canada in 1942 at the age of
23, he served pastorates in Dundurn, Sask (1942-44), Third Ave,
North Battleford, Saskatchewan. (1947-52), St. Giles, Hamilton
(1952-59), Robertson (now Robertson-Wesley), Edmonton (1959-66),
Metropolitan, Toronto (1966-75 and Bloor Street, Toronto (1975-86).
Cliff's great gift and passion was in conveying the message of
the Gospel. This was manifested in radio programmes (Sunday School
of the Air in North Battleford and The Good Ship Crusader in
Hamilton) as well as two minute weekly spots on Station
CFRB
(1970-86) in Toronto; a festival of the arts, dayspring at Metropolitan
United Church; a controversial sculpture of The Crucified Woman
at Bloor Street Church (1979); articles in The United Church
Observer (1960's 1990's) and monthly columns in The Toronto Star.
Following his retirement in 1986, Cliff was a popular anniversary
preacher and retreat leader across the country and a volunteer
chaplain at Casey House Hospice for people with A.I.D.S. and
Wellesley Hospital's H.I.V./A.I.D.S. wing. He taught at many
of the United Church's theological colleges during his ministry
and was the author of several books. Cliff travelled extensively
in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America; in
China, East Germany and Russia and gained on-the-spot understanding
of current social and political conditions which informed his
preaching. Throughout Cliff's life, singing was an important
expression of his faith and love of life and even in his last
years when his memory failed him he continued to sing. For over
forty years he cottaged on Little Boshkung Lake at Carnarvon
in Haliburton, Ontario. For ten and a half years, following a
stroke during surgery, Cliff was cared for in his own home. The
family is grateful to the many, many Friends, Community Care
East
York,
Bayview Community Hospice and Dr. Ian
FERGUSON and
Dr. Robert
McKELLAR who supported them during this time and made
it possible for Cliff to remain at home. A celebration of Cliff's
life will be held at Bloor Street United Church, 300 Bloor St.
W. (corner of Bloor and Huron) on Saturday, March 4 at 11: 00
a.m. Visiting will be on Friday, March 3 at Bloor Street United

She will also
be missed by various cousins in Western Canada. She was predeceased
by her parents a number of years ago, and had no siblings. After
a few years of working in various advertising agencies in Toronto,
Rosalie took a position as a Legislative Assistant in the New
Democratic Party Caucus at Queen's Park in the early 70's and
became much involved in the party and the political process.
She retired from Queen's Park in the late 1990's. She was a member
of the Ontario Public Service QuarterCentury Club. Rosaslie's
great passions in recent years were shopping and walking all
over Toronto, making new Friends and talking with old Friends
across the country, and 'playing' television by taping programs
day and night she had amassed hundreds of tapes. Rosalie had
a number of medical difficulties in the last few years but she
remained cheerful, witty and optimistic and vowed, as she put
it, 'to live to be 130.' A memorial/celebration of life is being
organized to take place in a few weeks.

Much-loved and respected teacher and mentor to countless writers

in 1962, and Margaret (née

Williams Lake and Revelstoke. In W.W. II he served as a Lancaster
navigator in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and after spending
two years in Shaughnessy Hospital recovering from wounds, graduated
with a M.A. in history from University of British Columbia. He
went on to earn a second Master's from Harvard, only to return
to University of British Columbia to teach English. While there
he encouraged Margaret Laurence to publish her first novel. A trusted
editor, Gordon worked as an advisor to hundreds of British Columbia
and Canadian authors. His work displays his eclectic range of
talent and interest, from The British Columbia Centennial Anthology
to Norman Lee's classic Klondike Cattle Drive, to co-authoring
British Columbia's first book on pubs. His own book on the Cariboo
Gold Rush has just been reissued. He was a leading light in the
Vancouver Historical Society and wrote innumerable articles,
both historical and literary, for a wide variety of publications.
When Simon Fraser University opened in 1965 he began teaching
Canadian Literature, and his passion for that subject, and for
all things Canadian, inspired generations of students. He retired
as Professor Emeritus in 1985. A lover of good food, good wine
and good conversation, Gordon was a convivial host and accomplished
chef. Interested in everything and prepared to try anything,
he stomped grapes in Italy, followed Odysseus' journey through

making Friends and sharing laughter wherever he went. A gathering

was an important expression of his faith and love of life and
even in his last years when his memory failed him he continued
to sing. For over forty years he cottaged on Little Boshkung

MARSH,
Bernice
Amelia (née
WRIGHT)
On March 2, 2006 at the age of 73, our angel help-mate, Bernice,
after a valiant battle with cancer, was embraced by the loving
arms of her Heavenly Father, where she believed she would experience
a new and wondrous life. Although petite in stature, Bernice
is fondly remembered as being full of spunk, love, wisdom, courage
and strength. She left a legacy of kindness and consideration.
Bernice gave freely of herself to those in need, whether the
need was for earnest prayer for the sick or needy, a tray of
the best sandwiches ever or an incomparable dessert for an event.
She was always there in mind, body and spirit. As well as being
very loving, she was also a hard working lady. She spent over
50 years in banking and as part owner and chief manager of the
family business. In addition, she was a 33-year volunteer at
a major hospital with many years service in "Post-Op" and administration.
Bernice was also a long-term member of St. Luke's Anglican Church
in Mississauga where she was a special light at the centre of
her musical passion, the 'Joy in the Morning' choral group. As
well, she was very active on several committees. Bernice leaves
