WILLIAMS, Ernest William " Ernie"
Peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at Parkwood Hospital on Sunday, January 8, 2006, Ernest William "Ernie" WILLIAMS died age 82, following a year long struggle with heart and kidney failure. Beloved husband of Margaret (née LAKER) of 51 years. Loving father of Delia RAINE and her husband Norman of Peterborough and Susan MORLING and her husband Chuck of Orangeville. Loving Poppa of Michael and Iain RAINE and Benjamin and Leah MORLING. Loving brother of Olive ELLIOT/ELLIOTT and her husband Derek and nephew Stephen ELLIOT/ELLIOTT and his wife Caroline of Kent, England. Predeceased by his father Ernest Henry (1961) and mother Susan (BROWN) (1983.) Ernie was a psychiatric and general trained nurse for 44 years. He took his psychiatric training from 1941-1945 in Devizes, Wiltshire and general training from 1945-1951 in Farnborough, Kent, this period being interrupted from 1946-1948 which he spent in the Royal Army Medical Corps as an Operating Room Nurse at Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot, Hampshire. After completing his general training in 1951, he was employed at York Clinic, Guy's Hospital, London, as a psychiatric head nurse. In 1957 Ernie and Margaret emigrated to London, Ontario, where he was employed by D.V.A. at Westminster Hospital in psychiatry until his retirement in 1985. Ernie enjoyed ballroom dancing and photography, and in his retirement, returned to his previous hobbies, such as water colour painting, breeding tropical fish, making model boats and building a model railroad. He also enjoyed going to the cottage at Lugan Beach, near Kincardine for over 30 years. He will be greatly missed by his many Friends. Cremation has taken place with a private spring inurnment. A memorial service celebrating Ernie's life will be held at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington Street (at Dufferin), London, conducted by Reverend Robert RIPLEY at 1: 00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14th. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Dearly loved mother of Glenda PEPPER and her husband Herb of R.R.#3, Saint Thomas, and Robert A. CORNELL and his wife Suzen of Port Stanley. Dear sister of Murray LANGILLE and his wife Winnie, and George LANGILLE and his wife Elizabeth, all of Pictou County, Nova Scotia. Also survived by a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Born in West Branch, River John, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, March 22, 1921, the daughter of the late Victor and Christina (MURRAY) LANGILLE, she came to Saint Thomas in the early 1940's. Jessie was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Lord Elgin Branch #41, Royal Canadian Legion, Saint Thomas, recently receiving her 60 year pin. In the comfort he wished for, and surrounded by his loving family, John passed away peacefully at the Hospice of May Court in Ottawa, after a lengthy and valiant struggle with cancer. John is survived by his beloved wife, Joan (née GREAVES/ HILL;) pre-deceased by his loving wife Kathleen▼ (née CORNELL) in 1984; his brother William, and his sister Barbara MARSHALL. John will be sadly missed by his children Marguerite and Keith MacHELL of Kamploops, British Columbia, Patricia and Michael LOEBACH of London, and Thomas and Penny (WHEELWRIGHT) of Toronto. He was dearly loved by his 13 grandchildren and great-grandchild including Mia, Alanna, Kaitlin, and Rae LOEBACH of London. A memorial service will be held in Toronto at a later date. In the comfort he wished for, and surrounded by his loving family, John passed away peacefully at the Hospice at May Court in Ottawa, after a lengthy and valiant struggle with cancer. John is survived by his beloved wife, Joan (née GREAVES/ HILL;) pre-deceased by his loving wife Kathleen▲ (née CORNELL) in 1984; his bother William, and his sister Barbara (Marshall). John will be sadly missed by his children Marguerite (MacHELL,) Patricia (LOEBACH) and Thomas; his Hill family step-children Jennifer, Jeremy, Julia, and Jonathan, his thirteen grandchildren and great-grandchild his eleven step-grandchildren; and his sisters Elizabeth (STEDMAN) and Mary (DODGE.) A Memorial Service will be held in Toronto in the near future. The family is deeply grateful to Doctor Louise COULOMBE and the staff and volunteers at the Hospice of May Court. Brother of Bob and his wife Marie TOPPING of Saint Thomas, Darlene and her husband Bill CORNER of Tillsonburg and Marilyn WALLER of Saint Thomas. Brother-in-law of Mary TOPPING of Saint Thomas and Wendy TOPPING and friend Brian NEELY of Sarnia. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Saint Thomas on November 9, 1936. He owned and operated Saint Thomas Pest Control. He was a former member of the Saint Thomas Kiwanis Club and former member of the Saint Thomas City Council and was active with Saint Thomas Fastball and Saint Thomas Jr. Hockey a number of years and also umpiring. Cherished grandmother of Chelsea Lee GAUTHIER. Dear daughter of Vernon and Ruth CORNFIELD. Sister of Keith CORNFIELD and his wife Diane, Bill WEIR and his wife Cindy, Wayne CORNFIELD and his wife Anita, Nancy WEIR and her husband Ralph GALLEN and the late Donna LLOYD. Carol will be sadly missed by Leslie CHESHIRE and her many nieces and nephews.
