CHAMBERLAIN,
Elizabeth
Anne (née
SCRACE)
Elizabeth CHAMBERLAIN passed away suddenly at Markdale on Monday,
March 13, 2006 in her 65th year. Elizabeth Anne
SCRACE was born
March 7, 1942 in Toronto (North York). Elizabeth was the daughter
of Bessie
(CAIRNS) and the late Walter
SCRACE.
She was the eldest
of a family of four, the sister of Catherine, David and the late
Alan.
Elizabeth married Melville Thomas
CHAMBERLAIN in Rexdale
on June 12, 1965. Their first home was in Arthur, Ontario in
Wellington County and in 1968 they were transferred to Thunder
Bay. Her children were all born in Thunder Bay, Paul Thomas (Monica)
on February 15, 1970, Gayle Elizabeth (Neil
BILLSON) on January 9,
1972 and Glenn Robert (Marta) on August 3, 1973. Elizabeth was
an organized and self-sufficient person who had a serene passion
for life and a determination to always do her best. In her younger
years she was a Girl Guide and Ranger. She loved Guides and maintained
Friendships with three special Girl Guide Friends throughout
her life even though they now live in British Columbia, New Mexico
and Barrie. The group of four all received the highest award
in Guiding, “The Girl Guides Gold Cord”. Elizabeth also enjoyed
music. She studied piano and played clarinet in her High School
marching and stage bands and in the University of Guelph band.
During the past two years she learned to play the guitar as part
of the midweek music night at Annesley United Church. Elizabeth
was a dedicated student and received excellent grades throughout
the years. Following graduation from Thistletown Collegiate Institute
in Rexdale she had the vision of pursuing a Science degree and
enrolled at the University of Guelph as a member of the class
of ‘65 Ontario Agricultural College. She was one of eight women
in a predominately male class of 200 students. She graduated
in May 1965 with a major in Chemistry. Following University graduation
and her marriage to Mel, Elizabeth attended the Ontario College
of Education and began her teaching career at Mount Forest District
High School teaching Grades 12 and
13 Chemistry, Grade 13 Physics
and Grade 10 Science. Later she was a supply teacher in Thunder
Bay, Wellington County, London, and
in Grey County until the
time of her passing. Elizabeth had become a full time Mom to
her three children in Thunder Bay and continued to stay home
with the children for several years after the family returned
to Wellington County in 1977. As all mothers realize this was
the greatest, most challenging and rewarding career of all. She
became involved on the local nursery school board, taught Sunday
school, and was a Girl Guide leader and a Beaver leader. Elizabeth
was a loving, patient, encouraging and guiding hand to her children.
She passed on these traits and her sense of vision and determination
to her three children. Her latest pride and joy was her four
beautiful grandchildren: Tressa and Thomas
BILLSON, children
of Gayle and Neil, and Bernadette and Sophia
CHAMBERLAIN, daughters
of Paul and Monica. Following the transfer of Elizabeth and Mel
to Markdale from London in 1995, Elizabeth continued with community
involvement, she volunteered as fitness instructor at Participation
Lodge, continued to promote wellness and the importance of nutrition
and healthy lifestyle to Friends and was an active member of
the Denim N' Lace Square Dance Club in Flesherton. Elizabeth's
greatest joy since moving to Markdale was as a member of the
Annesley United Church Choir. She always looked forward to Thursday
night choir practice and Sunday service. Her love of music and
the choir was central to her funeral service on Saturday, March 18th.
The service was conducted by Rev. Mark R.
WAUGH.
The
Annesley
Choir sang as their Anthem “On Eagles Wings”. Selected hymns
were “Part of the Family”, “Jesus Loves Me”, and “In the Bulb
There Is a Flower”. Words of comfort and hope by Mark
WAUGH comforted
the family. Words of Remembrance were presented by Colleen
CARRIERE
and Catherine
BULLEN, cousin and sister of Elizabeth respectively.
Prelude and postlude organ selections were beautifully performed
by David FRIES,
Director of Music. Pallbearers were sons Paul
and Glenn CHAMBERLAIN, son-in-law Neil
BILLSON, and nephews Keith
BULLEN,
Craig
CHAMBERLAIN and David
CHAMBERLAIN. Following committal
at Markdale Cemetery a wonderful lunch was served by the Annesley
United Church ladies. Elizabeth was a beautiful, loving and caring
lady, always dedicated to her family and to her Lord, Jesus Christ.

In loving memory of my mother, Gail
One year ago today, my life changed.
I had to say good bye to my mother and my best friend
Everyday that has passed has been difficult
Everyday I want to call to tell you something
There has been so much you've missed
Your grandchildren miss you and I miss sharing their lives with
you
I know your watching over us
Everyday I shed a tear I miss you more then anyone knows
You are always in my thoughts and in my heart.

RICHARDSON,
Theresa
Madeline (née
LAPETINA)
Left this world with grace on March 13, 2006, surrounded by her
family, after 91 glorious years. You cannot squeeze much more
out of a life than that! Born in Toronto on February 19, 1915,
she was predeceased by her wonderful husband, George, in 1982 and
was never able to find a completely suitable replacement. Theresa
is survived by her daughter Catharine (Paul
CARROLL) and son
George ("Stix") both of whom were with her to the end. Tragically,
she was predeceased by her other son, Jimmy, in a car accident
many years ago, a loss from which she never completely recovered.
She▼ loved, and was loved by, her grandchildren, Peter
CARROLL
(Suzanne LORD), Michael
CARROLL (Vera), Ann Marie
PIEKENBROCK
(Zane) and Amanda
RICHARDSON, as well as by her great grandchildren
Devin, Jenna and Brendan (Carroll). Her former daughter-in-law,
Angela CANNON, was with her at the end, having been a great help
over the years. Grand dogs Robin (San Francisco), Rowdy (Vancouver)
and Cosimo (Kingston) stand on guard for her. The last five years
of her life would have been unbearable if it were not for the
tireless assistance, compassion and humour of her dear friend,
Merlin CAMERON, and all the staff and volunteers at Seven Oaks
Home for the Aged, with special thanks also to Bev and Harold
PARRINGTON for the "happy hours," especially on Fridays. Theresa,
and her husband, were always immersed in music, classical and
opera in particular, but also pop. George Sr.'s favourite line,
with no apologies to Caruso or Beurling, was "if I could sing
like that I wouldn't even talk to you!" Theresa also was a wiz
on the piano, playing mostly by ear. This love of music transcended
their life and is carried forward by her descendants. Even the
dogs like music. A Memorial Mass was celebrated on March 22,
2006 at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church followed by interment
with her parents, husband and son at Mount Hope Cemetery. At
Theresa's request, attendance was limited to family and close
Friends as she did not want a fuss. Anyone wishing to make a
donation in memory of Theresa is invited to send it to Seven
Oaks Home for the Aged, 9 Neilson Road, Toronto, Ontario M1E 5E1
where a fund has been established to continue the tradition of
camaraderie among the residents, in which Theresa was an active
participant.

FOLEY,
Christopher
Columba
Passed away at home, on Good Friday, April 14, 2006, at the age
of 80, in the High Park neighbourhood where he lived for more
than 40 years. Christopher was born in Kells, County Meath, Ireland
on May 10, 1925. He was the beloved father of Margaret
FOLEY
and devoted husband to his late wife, Anne Teresa, née
CLIFFORD.
He is survived by his loving wife
Marie
Terese, née
BONENFANT.
Christopher was known affectionately as Christy by his wide circle
of Friends, many of whom shared his passion for Irish culture.
His was a life marked by a devotion to those institutions that
nurtured the values he held dear, among them, the Catholic Church,
the St. Vincent de Paul Society and numerous Irish social organizations.
Although he moved away from his native Ireland as a teenager,
Christy carried his roots with him wherever he went. He flew
to Canada in 1948 on one of the early trans-Atlantic flights
in search of greater opportunity. It was in Toronto that his
enterprising spirit rose to the fore. Christy worked for C.N. Rail
and the Royal York Hotel. Saving enough to buy his first home
within six months, Christy turned it into yet another opportunity
- becoming a landlord and giving other young Irish men a roof
over their heads. He worked with the Metro Toronto Waterworks
Department for 30 years and continued a close relationship with
fellow retirees through the rest of his life. Family, work and
his many community activities filled his days. Sickness did nothing
to quell his stubborn streak nor dash his great love of travel.
Christy will be sorely missed and fondly remembered. He leaves
behind his cherished sisters-in-law Margaret
HERRING,
Evelyn
FOLEY and longtime family friend, Mildred
CREGAN. He is also
survived by his loving nephews and nieces and their families:
Ray FOLEY, Ann
PALEN, Brian and Thomas
HEGARTY, Thomas
CARROLL,
Peter, Gerard and Michael
O'LOUGHLIN and Angela
BYRNE.
Christy,
the youngest of six children born to Margaret
SMITH and Thomas
FOLEY, is predeceased by all his siblings, Kathleen, Gerty, May,
Lily and brother Paddy. Special thanks to his doctor, Eckhart
SCHWEIHOFER and Margaret
GORECKI, the home care worker who became
such a good friend. Visitation for our beloved Christy will be
held Tuesday, April 18 and Wednesday, April 19 from 2-4 and 7-
9 p.m. at the Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street
West, Toronto, at Windermere Ave., east of Jane subway. Funeral
Mass will be held Thursday, April 20 at 10: 30 a.m. at Our Lady
of Sorrows Church, 3055 Bloor Street West. In lieu of flowers,
donations in the name of Christopher Foley to the St. Vincent
de Paul Society or ShareLife would be much appreciated.
