Passed away peacefully on January 10, 2006 at home in Toronto at the age of 88 years. Loving sister of Jean DION, Minnie CHYZZY, Stephanie MILLER, Peter BURAK and their families. She will be sadly missed by all of her nieces, nephews and Friends. Predeceased by her parents Catherine and John BURAK and her brothers and sisters Andrew, Michael, Nick, Sophie THORSTEINSON, Steve, and Joe. Anne was a longtime employee of National Cash Register, building business machines such as typewriters, adding machines, and cash registers, prior to the modern day computer. She was an avid bowler, and a dedicated member of Holy Rosary Church. She saw Toronto grow and change from post World War 2 to its present state and always enjoyed the community spirit of St. Clair Avenue. Friends may visit at the Jerrett Funeral Home, 1141 St. Clair Ave. W. (1 block east of Dufferin) on Friday from 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday January 14, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 354 St. Clair Ave. W. WHEELER, Eva Mabel (née BURDEN) (April 10, 1916-January 11, 2006)
Mabel passed away comfortably in the company of her children at Meadowcroft Place York Mills. She was in her 90th year. Mabel enjoyed a long and full life as teacher, nurse, W.A.A.F. plotter in World War 2, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to travel, garden, bake, play cards, knit, and do crewelwork and, especially, to spend time with family and Friends just talking and laughing. The door to her home was always wide open. Born in Griquet, Newfoundland, Mabel travelled to London, England in 1939 returning to Cornerbrook, Newfoundland in 1945 to start her family, after marrying Gordon in 1942. In 1949 Mabel and Gordon moved to Toronto with their young family and eventually moved to Scarborough in 1953 where they settled to raise their family of seven. Mabel's strength, vitality and love of life will be remembered and cherished by her children Pauline CALEY (Harold), Tom (Pam), Ernie (Kay), Dennis (Laurel,) Derrick (Judy,) Glenn (Gwen,) Terryann WILLARD (Scott) and daughter-in-law Carolynne; by her grandchildren Greg, Steve, Kirsten, Anthony, Jamie, Alisia, Elena, Kelly, Colleen, Zac, Erin, Jeff, Eric, Amanda, Michael, Trevor and Olivia; by her great-grandchildren Anna, Lauryn, Jacob and Justin; and, by other family members and Friends of the family. Mabel was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years Gordon who died in September 1992, by her eight sisters and brothers and her infant son Anthony. Mabel was a feisty and loving woman to the end! The family would like to thank the staff at Meadowcroft Place who provided her with such good care and companionship during her final years. Her personal caregivers provided her with warmth and affection for which we are appreciative. A private family service will be held with interment at Pine Hills Cemetery in Scarborough.
