Elizabeth CHAMBERLAIN passed away suddenly at Markdale on Monday, March 13, 2006 in her 65th year. Elizabeth Anne SCRACE was born March 7, 1942 in Toronto (North York). Elizabeth was the daughter of Bessie (CAIRNS) and the late Walter SCRACE. She was the eldest of a family of four, the sister of Catherine, David and the late Alan. Elizabeth▼ married Melville Thomas CHAMBERLAIN in Rexdale on June 12, 1965. Their first home was in Arthur, Ontario in Wellington County and in 1968 they were transferred to Thunder Bay. Her children were all born in Thunder Bay, Paul Thomas (Monica) on February 15, 1970, Gayle Elizabeth (Neil BILLSON) on January 9, 1972 and Glenn Robert (Marta) on August 3, 1973. Elizabeth was an organized and self-sufficient person who had a serene passion for life and a determination to always do her best. In her younger years she was a Girl Guide and Ranger. She loved Guides and maintained Friendships with three special Girl Guide Friends throughout her life even though they now live in British Columbia, New Mexico and Barrie. The group of four all received the highest award in Guiding, “The Girl Guides Gold Cord”. Elizabeth also enjoyed music. She studied piano and played clarinet in her High School marching and stage bands and in the University of Guelph band. During the past two years she learned to play the guitar as part of the midweek music night at Annesley United Church. Elizabeth was a dedicated student and received excellent grades throughout the years. Following graduation from Thistletown Collegiate Institute in Rexdale she had the vision of pursuing a Science degree and enrolled at the University of Guelph as a member of the class of ‘65 Ontario Agricultural College. She was one of eight women in a predominately male class of 200 students. She graduated in May 1965 with a major in Chemistry. Following University graduation and her marriage to Mel, Elizabeth attended the Ontario College of Education and began her teaching career at Mount Forest District High School teaching Grades 12 and 13 Chemistry, Grade 13 Physics and Grade 10 Science. Later she was a supply teacher in Thunder Bay, Wellington County, London, and in Grey County until the time of her passing. Elizabeth had become a full time Mom to her three children in Thunder Bay and continued to stay home with the children for several years after the family returned to Wellington County in 1977. As all mothers realize this was the greatest, most challenging and rewarding career of all. She became involved on the local nursery school board, taught Sunday school, and was a Girl Guide leader and a Beaver leader. Elizabeth was a loving, patient, encouraging and guiding hand to her children. She passed on these traits and her sense of vision and determination to her three children. Her latest pride and joy was her four beautiful grandchildren: Tressa and Thomas BILLSON, children of Gayle and Neil, and Bernadette and Sophia CHAMBERLAIN, daughters of Paul and Monica. Following the transfer of Elizabeth and Mel to Markdale from London in 1995, Elizabeth continued with community involvement, she volunteered as fitness instructor at Participation Lodge, continued to promote wellness and the importance of nutrition and healthy lifestyle to Friends and was an active member of the Denim N' Lace Square Dance Club in Flesherton. Elizabeth's greatest joy since moving to Markdale was as a member of the Annesley United Church Choir. She always looked forward to Thursday night choir practice and Sunday service. Her love of music and the choir was central to her funeral service on Saturday, March 18th. The service was conducted by Rev. Mark R. WAUGH. The Annesley Choir sang as their Anthem “On Eagles Wings”. Selected hymns were “Part of the Family”, “Jesus Loves Me”, and “In the Bulb There Is a Flower”. Words of comfort and hope by Mark WAUGH comforted the family. Words of Remembrance were presented by Colleen CARRIERE and Catherine BULLEN, cousin and sister of Elizabeth respectively. Prelude and postlude organ selections were beautifully performed by David FRIES, Director of Music. Pallbearers were sons Paul and Glenn CHAMBERLAIN, son-in-law Neil BILLSON, and nephews Keith BULLEN, Craig CHAMBERLAIN and David CHAMBERLAIN. Following committal at Markdale Cemetery a wonderful lunch was served by the Annesley United Church ladies. Elizabeth was a beautiful, loving and caring lady, always dedicated to her family and to her Lord, Jesus Christ.

The family of Margaret SINCLAIR would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for all the support we have received since the death of our beloved mother. In her last few weeks we were overwhelmed by the wonderful care given by the Parameds, the Victorian Order of Nurses nurses and the tender assistance provided by Peggy Luxton's staff of Caring Hands. We will always be grateful to Dr. CHAN for the medical services he continued to provide for our mother. The floral tributes, donations, cards, gifts of food and other expressions of sympathy have been very comforting to us throughout this difficult time. We were deeply touched by the provision of a catered meal in our home courtesy of the culinary talents of Ruth BUTLER, May HOWES, Tina WATSON and Ben WILTON. Thank you to Rob Fawcett and his excellent team for their attention to every detail. We could not have asked for more consideration on our behalf. A special thank you to the staff at Hair Fair for styling mom's hair exactly as she would have liked, complete with the little net. Mother always wished her service to be conducted from Gentle Shepherd Church and her wish was granted with special gifts of beauty. We thank Pastor Ann GILLIES for her thoughtful message and her kind words of comfort, her son, Matthew, for his mastery of the sound system and the lovely harmony of Dianne CARLSON, Judy MacNEILL and Irene LITTLE, skillfully accompanied by Heather WIGHT. Krista BULLOCK's piano solo was a special tribute to her great-grandmother. We extend sincere appreciation to the Gentle Shepherd Women, under the capable coordination of Joan McGEE, for providing such a delicious lunch. Reverend PRINCE's visit to our home on Christmas Eve day will always be a treasured memory. Perhaps the best way we can thank this community in its entirety, is through Mom's own words which we recently discovered in a written message to her family, "God bless you all".

Husband, father, bookseller, poet, gentleman. Born September 8, 1931, in Aberdeen, Scotland. Died November 9, 2005, in Burritt's Rapids, Ontario, of natural causes, aged 74.
Along with his deep knowledge and love of literature, Bill possessed a kindly charm and keen sensibility. He could read his customers a mile away. He'd emerge from the rear of the store, tall, elegant and bearded, and gently introduce them to just the authors they were looking for -- even when they hadn't yet realized it.
Bill raised Ottawa's literary standards. His clientele ran from John Diefenbaker and Lester Pearson to Pierre Trudeau and Ed Broadbent. When the Prime Minister's Office or the Department of Foreign Affairs needed a gift for a visiting V.I.P., they knew whom to call. And over the years, Bill mentored a new generation of booksellers.
Bill was a complex, multifaceted man: a very private person yet a loyal friend and boon companion; a businessman yet an accomplished poet. Growing up in wartime in the English industrial city of Leeds, he was an autodidact who immersed himself in books. His friend Gordon BULLOCK recalls Bill as a perfect gentleman, even as a teenager: "Dressing in tweeds, smoking a magnificent pipe, wearing a stylish hat, all of which gave him the air of a young academic."
Bill moved to London, where he reported for the Fish Fryers Gazette and frequented the theatre. A friend of his, a penniless young actor named Peter O'Toole, slept on his floor while seeking parts in the West End.
In search of better prospects, Bill emigrated to Canada in 1954 with Gordon BULLOCK, who would become publisher of the Hamilton Spectator. A few years later Bill was happily working at Leishman's. As Mr. BULLOCK puts it, "He'd travelled 3,000 miles to find his true home." Bill bought the business in 1961 in partnership with Peggy BLACKSTOCK, raised its stature, and moved the store uptown near Parliament Hill.
Farsighted and imaginative, Bill ROBERTS became a force for innovation and professionalism in the book trade. In 1972, he opened satellite stores in Ottawa and Victoria under the name Books Canada, selling exclusively Canadian titles. He was elected president of the Canadian Booksellers Association, fostered bookseller education, and promoted publisher-bookseller co-operation in bringing electronic commerce to the industry.
Although he was serious about business, Bill's first love was literature. Ottawa poet William HAWKINS recalls Bill approaching him after a reading to share his enthusiasms for Eliot and Auden. The two became Friends, and Bill shared his own poetry with Mr. HAWKINS, who was struck by its craft, wit and poignancy.
Another colleague, bookseller-turned-publisher Al CUMMINGS, became a close friend. He and Bill travelled widely together in search of history, art, good cigars and fine scotch. They marked the millennium by flying from New York to London on the Concorde, visiting galleries and theatres, and returning on the Queen Elizabeth II. Bill immortalized their adventures in a satirically nostalgic verse, Like-Minded Gents.
Bill enjoyed the tranquillity of life with his wife Carole and daughters Stephanie and Victoria in the small village of Burritt's Rapids near Ottawa. For some years after he sold Leishman's in 1992, he and Carole ran a lovely antiquarian bookshop in nearby Merrickville, but Bill's failing health eventually caused them to retire. One of his last and most moving poems begins: I hope the better part / Of who we are / May be remembered.

Fatal Collision
Karen MOLE, age 41 of Owen Sound has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act as a result of a three-vehicle collision that claimed the life of Anthonius BULSINK's, age 27 of Woodford. Ms MOLE's westbound 2000 Dodge van struck the rear of BULSINK's westbound 1992 Ford Coupe and forced it to the eastbound lane of traffic. An eastbound 1998 Dodge pickup driven by Marcel FONTAINE, age 41 of Burgoyne struck the BULSINK vehicle sending both of them rolling into the south ditch.
Mr. BULSINK died as a result of his injuries. Passengers in the FONTAINE pickup truck, Mona Mary BURTON age 52 and Lisa FONTAINE both of Burgoyne were sent to the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre with non-life threatening injuries. An Ontario Provincial Police technical collision investigative team had traffic re-routed on 26 highway for several hours.

Among the living, Mieczyslaw leaves his children and families; Henry, Ruth and sons Jason and Craig with wife Christine; John, Becky and daughters Robin and Stephanie; Irene and Dean SCARROW, daughter Sarah and son Michael, partner Kim and great-grand_son Nicholas; Barbara and Dennis DIONNE, son Wayne and daughter Tanya, partner Shawn and great-granddaughter Kylie. Mieczyslaw also has extended family through his many cousins, nieces and nephews in Poland, in Canada Ela (née WCZESNY) and Rudolph KALARUS, and daughters Kasia and Malgosia; and family through Dean SCARROW -- Daniel, Beverly, Michelle and their families. Much appreciation is given to the care-givers on 4th floors of Bluewater Health - Mitton Site and Saint Michael's Hospital in Toronto. Mieczyslaw was a founding member of Queen of Peace Polish Parish of Sarnia, and was life member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Breast Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Visitation at the McKenzie and Blundy Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 431 Christina Street, Sarnia on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where prayers will be offered at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Stan SOLTYSIK at Queen of Peace Church (Rosedale at Ellwood) on Wednesday at 10: 30 a.m. Interment Our Lady of Merchy Cemetery.
