Father, veteran won't march in first Remembrance Day parade
On March 28th of this year, Peter MELROSE died.
He was a gentle man and he was my father.
Born in Scotland in 1921 to David and Mary MELROSE, he lived in Collingwood until he joined the Navy in 1939.
Like many young men and women of his day, he left home to fight for Canada. He returned safely. And for the next 65 years he lived a good life.
He didn't talk much of the war until his later years.
He had decided that he would march for the first time ever in the Collingwood Remembrance Day parade in 2006 with his war medals.
You won't see him in this year's ceremonies, but he will be there in spirit.
His wife, children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren will never forget.
