BOYD,
Minnie▼
Marian▼ (née
SWANTON)
Minnie Marian was born on April 15, 1921 to Emily and William
SWANTON who resided on the East Back Line, Markdale. She was
the younger sister to her brother George who was five years her
senior. The four were a tight knit farming family who grew up
with strong values and the hearty Grey county work ethic.
Minnie finished high school and then went off to teacher's college.
She began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Ceylon
with grades one through eight; quite a challenge for a newly
graduated young teacher. When she went to Toronto to teach, she
tackled this job with determination and passion and enjoyed the
many opportunities it presented.
It was during this time that she met her soul mate for life
local Flesherton boy, George
BOYD.
They were married in July
1944 with the entire Boyd and Swanton family in attendance. George
and Minnie had three children, Brenda, Randy and Wendy. Minnie
was devoted to her family. Whether as a homemaker to a young
family or as the accountant/receptionist at the family business,
Boyd Bros. Motors, Minnie excelled. She also made time for many
pursuits including sewing, painting and cooking. The family enjoyed
great love and support from each other.
Minnie and George had a great enthusiasm for life. They both
enjoyed impromptu parties with Friends and family and Minnie
was always ready with lots of food and stories to tell. They
had many great adventures through the family trips around the
world and even day trips in the area. Minnie loved to dance and
it was usually George and Minnie who were first up to "cut a
rug" on the dance floor. George was the love of her life and
the two were inseparable until almost three years ago when George
passed away. Although she suffered greatly from heart-break and
arthritis in the final years, Minnie never let the pain dampen
her positive spirit.
The service celebrating Minnie's life took place on Wednesday,
February 15 at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Flesherton. Minnie's
daughter-in-law, Kim
BOYD composed and delivered a wonderful
tribute to Minnie. A second loving tribute was written by her
daughter, Wendy and read by Reverend Martin
GARNISS.
The
Boyd family
appreciated the beautiful music of David
FRIES, the religious
message of Reverend Martin
GARNISS and the excellent lunch served
by the ladies of Flesherton's Saint John's United Church. Thanks
are also extended to the pallbearers Don
BRODIE,
Jack
DAVIS,
Kevin DAY,
Tyler
DAY, Bob
EDWARDS and Jim
WILLIAMS.
Relatives and Friends will remember Minnie's generosity, kind
spirit and keen sense of humour. She will be greatly missed by
her children, Brenda, Randy and Wendy, her daughter-in-law Kim,
her son-in-law Kevin, her six grandchildren, Lindsay, Ferris,
Kelsey, Melanie, Tyler and Samantha and her loving relatives
and Friends.
The Boyd family give thanks for Minnie's life and are comforted
to know that she will once again be with her one true love, George.
Minnie's spirit will remain in the family's hearts and minds
forever.
