HEARN,
Sister
Agnes, S.O.S.
Died peacefully at LaSalle Manor, Scarborough, Ontario, April 22,
2006, having served 78 years as a Sister of Service. Born in
St. Catharines, Ontario, she was one of the ten children born
to Thomas J.

Predeceased by her sisters
Margaret BUSSELL, Eva
JONES, Theresa
HEARN, Catherine
BLAKELY,
her brothers Joseph, Francis, Ambrose, Leo and Thomas, she would
have celebrated her 100th Birthday on May 5, 2006. A pioneer
member of the Sisters of Service, she entered the Community in
1928, six years after its foundation. Her first assignment was
Secretary to Fr. George
DALY, CssR, Co-founder of the Sisters
of Service. Serving in the S.O.S. Immigration ministry in Halifax,
Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton, meeting immigrant boats
and trains she provided reception services, accommodation care
and support for newly arrived women immigrants. With the advent
of World War 2 and immigration at a standstill, her talents were
directed to the S.O.S. Catechetical Ministry delivered from Centers
in Edmonton and Regina. Embracing the Vatican II approach to
Catechetics, she studied theology and new techniques and methods
and continued to serve in this ministry as a Parish Catechetical
Coordinator in Winnipeg and Co-founder of the Catechetical Education
Program in Clarenville, Newfoundland. Agnes will be remembered
for her fervent zeal, her zest for life, her boundless enthusiasm
and energy and her complete faith and trust in God. With her
passing the Sisters of Service have lost a Community icon and
a reservoir of our early history. The Sisters of Service extend
their sympathy to her nieces and nephews and her many dear Friends
across Canada. May she rest in peace. Relatives and Friends may
