Lovingly remembered by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Grant was a veteran of World War 2, member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #140, Clinton and founding Brigade member of the Bayfield Fire Department. MAITLAND, Allen Bruce
On Tuesday July 18, 2006 only ten days short of his 86th birthday, Allen passed away at Humber River Regional Hospital, Church Street Site, due to complications following hip surgery. A veteran of World War 2 in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, R.C.E.M.E., he was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star and C.V.S.M. and Clasp, serving in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. After the war, he was a professional driver, then worked for Toronto Hydro until retirement. He was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Oddfellows (I.O.O.F.), and was active in a wide range of organizations including those devoted to railway and Toronto history. In recent years, he lived at St. Hilda's Towers where he had many Friends. Allen is survived by two relatives, Jackie LOUCKS of Alaska and Alemeth RITCHIE of Toronto, longtime Friends Jack MURTON and Bill HOOD, dear Friends Tony RICCI, Dorothy DUNCAN and Jane BEECROFT. Friends will be received at McDougall and Brown Funeral Home, 1812 Eglinton Avenue West (at Dufferin) on Sunday July 23 from 2-5 p.m. Funeral Service in the Chapel on Monday July 24, 2006 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. On Wednesday April 12, 2006, our husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 82 in Barrie at Royal Victoria Hospital. Survived by his loving wife Eileen PORTER, daughter Susan SYME and her husband Ted and their daughter Leah of Barrie, daughter Alison SYME and her husband Glenn and their children Andrew, Matthew and Marina of Arborg, Manitoba, daughter Lesley PORTER and her sons Brock, Brad and Michael VANDRICK of Barrie, son Stephen PORTER and his wife Nancy and their children Amaret and Jesse of Balgonie, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by daughter Nancie MINTEN, but survived by her children Amanda, Hailey and Hayden of Wyevale, Ontario. Lovingly remembered by nephew Robert ALLEN of British Columbia, and nieces Ruth, Iris and Kathleen ALLEN of Winnipeg and Claire GORDON of British Columbia. Predeceased by sisters Annie GORDON of Vancouver, British Columbia and Grace ALLEN of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born to William and Annie PORTER of Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 10, 1923. Bill graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 1946 and subsequently moved to Toronto where he gained employment at General Electric and met his future wife Eileen. In 1949 they moved to Barrie where Bill worked for Ontario Hydro from which he retired after 40 years of service. During this time Bill also completed an M.B.A. at the University of Toronto. In his retirement years Bill continued working by starting a Tax Business as a second career. During early life in Barrie Bill enjoyed many pastimes, especially sailing at the Barrie Yacht Club and skiing at Snow Valley. In retirement Bill enjoyed camaraderie at the Parkview Centre playing snooker, and his Monday night "games" at B.C.C.. Over the years Bill was also involved in Little Hills Player, Central Church, Probus, Downtown Development Board, B.U.G., and the Barrie Library Board. Bill was also very active in his Class of '46 Reunions. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Doctor BEECROFT, and the nurses and therapy staff of 3SA at the Royal Victoria Hospital for their compassion and understanding. Reg was an avid photographer seen around town with his camera in hand and enjoyed feeding "his children" the ducks at Southside Park and looked forward to a friendly game of tennis every now and then. Also survived by son-in-law, Geoff HEBB of Saint Thomas, sister-in-law, Verna JAGOE of Kenora and several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his own immediate family, having been predeceased by sisters, Hilda BEER and Ivy POTTICARY and brothers, Frederick and Harry KITCHENHAM. Born in Saint Thomas, July 11, 1920, the son of the late John and Lilly (GILLINGHAM) KITCHENHAM. Alan was a retired Sears Canada sales manager and a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Saint Thomas. Peacefully at home on Sunday, April 9, 2006, Raymond Kenneth HILL passed away in his 65th year. Sadly missed by his daughter Kellie HILL (Mike.) Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Natasha, Shane and Brett. Survived by his sister Joyce BEER and brothers Ron (BettyAnn) HILL, Ralph (Kathy) HILL. Also missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by mother Florence Ashton (O'NEIL) and father James Chauncey HILL. Of Saint Thomas, passed away at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Saturday, September 30, 2006, in her 79th year. Beloved wife of 54 years to the late Donald W. BEER (Mar. 2, 2003.) Loving mother of Linda LEE and her husband Greg of London, Richard BEER and Gerald BEER, both of R.R.#3, Saint Thomas. Dear grandmother of Trisha MORRIS and her fiancé Jason GROUETTE, Steven LEE and his fiancée Joanna REGAN, and great grandmother of Benjamin and Thomas LEE, all of London. Sadly missed by her sister, Mary DUDDER, her brother, Walter MELNYK and his wife Mary, all of Calgary, Alberta and sister-in-law, Muriel SUCH of Saint Thomas. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Born in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan, October 16, 1927, the daughter of the late Samko and Annie KRYSAK) MELNYK. She was a former employee of Singer Controls, Saint Thomas.
