wife Ellen. Ross was a gentle, caring spirit, whose kindness
and courtesy were appreciated by all who had the privilege of
knowing him. Possessed of a constantly probing intellect, he
was a true Renaissance man, with a wide range of talents and
interests. Educated at Upper Canada College, the University of
Toronto (P. Eng.) and the University of Michigan (M. Sc.), he
was a longtime employee of Dow Chemical. A pioneer in computer
science, Ross had the vision to see the potential of emerging
computer applications. Ross was an avid environmentalist and
active in Lambton Wildlife. A connoisseur of classical music,
he was tireless in promoting music in Sarnia, first through weekly
radio broadcasts, and later through his involvement with the
Library Concert Series and the Sarnia Concert Association. Ross
was a proud World War 2 Royal Canadian Air Force veteran. He
trained in Canada on Tiger Moths and Harvards, and later saw
combat in Europe flying Hurricanes and Spitfires as a member
of the elite 441 Squadron. After the War, he continued his love
of flying as a sailplane pilot, setting several long distance
soaring records. Ross was also an enthusiastic scuba diver in
the early years of the sport. With a gift for words and an admiration
of fine literature, Ross had recently discovered the pleasure
of writing young people's fiction. Predeceased by his parents

served during World War 2 in the Royal Canadian Air Force Bomber
Command, Royal Air Force Squadron 103, and was recently inducted
into the Canadian Hall of Valour. After returning from the war,
Donald earned an engineering degree at Queen's which led to a
challenging career in metallurgy. While at Queen's he met Margaret,
the love of his life. He was a member of the Avro Arrow engine
design team and a pioneer in Canadian Nuclear Power at G.E. Canada.
He was a member and Past President of the Fortnightly Club, and
of Peterborough United Services Institute, member Probus Club
of Peterborough and served on the Peterborough Public Library
Board for many years. Donald was a life-long learner and avid
historian, who earned his degree in History during retirement.
He enjoyed extensive world travel, bridge, theatre and, in former
years, skiing and sailing. Special thanks to Doctor John
BEAMISH
for his exceptional compassion and care in recent years and to
the staff of the Intensive Care Unit for bringing comfort to
Donald during his stay in hospital. A funeral will be held at
Saint_John's Anglican Church, 99 Brock Street, Peterborough at
2: 00 p.m. on Monday, October 23rd with visitation one hour prior

During his second career, later in life, Alf served the Ontario
Government from 1984 to 1998 as a Court Constable, Sheriff's
Deputy and a Court Services Officer. Friends will be received

She also bowled on a team for Taylor Electric. Ede was a member
of the Chancel Guild for many years at the Church of the Epiphany,
London and for over forty years at Saint Mark's Anglican Church,
Brantford. She was a creative seamstress/dressmaker providing
most of the clothing for herself and her daughter, as well as
items for church bazaars and an avid and talented gardener for
most of her life. After the age of 65, Ede studied oil painting,
which was one of her lifelong dreams, and became an excellent
and prolific painter. Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves
Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford on Thursday from
