Priest born in Ottawa in 1922.
Raised in Ottawa, he attended elementary school and high school
in Ottawa. He was ordained in 1946 and served as an assistant
priest in Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Our Lady of Fatima parishes
a pastor of St. Isidore's and St. Elizabeth's parishes; and a
rector of St. Patrick's parish. He also attended Angelicum University
in Rome, where he received a doctorate in canon law in 1952.
He was appointed vicar-general for the English Sector of the
archdiocese in 1969 and was ordained as auxiliary bishop of Ottawa
in 1977. He was appointed senior vicar-general of the Ottawa
archdiocese in 1987 with responsibility for the chancery, the
treasury and other administrative matters.
