Lou was a volunteer with
the Canadian Forces from 1939-1945. Staff Sergeant O.A.
ARNOTT
served with the 14th Field Regiment in Petawawa and then volunteered
and was accepted for service in the First Special Service Force
where in 1942 he was severely injured during night time parachute
training at Fort Harrison in Helena, Montana. After his recovery,
he rejoined the Field Regiment and was assigned to training duties
in England, Petawawa, Truro, Nova Scotia and
in Owen Sound where
he met and married Kay in 1944. They returned to Owen Sound where
they raised their family “out in the country” at 1st Street and
4th Avenue West. Lou was a master carpenter and a jack of all
the other trades and worked for many years as a construction
superintendent with Ellis Don Construction. He took a position
in the maintenance department at the MacKinnon Phillips Hospital
once construction was complete. He worked there until his retirement
in 1983. Lou was a tireless volunteer over the years in many
organizations. He was past president and a Life Member of the
Owen Sound Branch 6 Legion where he spent many hours ensuring
that the building was in good condition, the beer was cold, and
the comradeship and discussions were intact. He was a member
of the Grey Granite, Blue Water Curling Club, and the Roselawn
Lawn bowling Clubs. He was a member of the Rotary, Kiwanis, Old
Blades and the Masons at various times. He also held a position
as President of the Owen Sound Minor Softball Association for
several years. An avid outdoorsman he loved to fish, hunt, boat
and spend time in the bush. He enjoyed traveling and learning
about new things. Gardening was one of his passions and he took
pleasure in seeing the fruits of his labour each season. Friends
may call at the Breckenridge-Ashcroft Funeral Home on Thursday
from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held
at the funeral home on Friday morning at 11 a.m. Doctor Brad

officiating. Members of the Owen Sound Royal Canadian Legion
Branch 6 are requested to attend a memorial service at the funeral
home on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.

Belarus (Poland) in 1927 and emigrated to Canada in 1939. He
taught at Beal Secondary School, retiring in 1986. He was a gifted
musician and loved the solace of nature. His presence will be
missed. At John's request, there will no visitation or funeral
service. A private family funeral will be held. Interment Woodland

Professional football player, wrestler, actor, poet, lumberjack
and nurturer, our beloved Jeffrey died suddenly at home, in Guelph,
in his 66th year. Jeff grew up in Toronto, earned a B.A. at the
University of Nebraska and a M.A. at Cornell University in English
and Drama, on an athletic scholarship. After University, Jeff
played football with the Canadian Football League in Toronto,
Hamilton and Calgary where his love of the mountains and the
wilderness kept him for several more years building the Kananaskis
Trail System in Canmore, Alberta. A prolific writer and raconteur,
Jeff's uninhibited comic take on life brought laughter and joy
to every get together. In 1988, Jeff returned to Guelph to care
for his ailing father, Kenneth, until his death in 1993 and then
for his beloved mother, Florence, until her death six weeks ago,
in her 96th year. He is lovingly remembered by his many Friends
