A Tribute To Marion
(written by one of Marion's special Friends)
Such a special friend is so hard to find, and we were so blessed
to call you "mine".
You cherished your family with love and pride, and graciously
took each day in stride.
Together with Bruce you shared a wonderful life, you each chose
so well for a husband and wife.
Your children you cherished, your precious grandchildren as well,
with each new arrival your heart would swell.
Your gardens, your flowers you tended with care, your gifts and
your talents you would unselfishly share.
Your quiet little chuckle, your beautiful brown eyes, your welcoming
home, your meals and your pies.
As a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a grandma, an aunt,
a niece or a friend, you loved each and everyone right to the
end.
In cards we were told we didn't play our hands, so we laughed
and we chuckled and tried a new plan.
But trying to play like the men soon went amuck, because they
really never had a plan.. just plain old luck.
A campfire, a New Years eve party, a visit... whatever, we always
had such a great time together
We will cherish always these wonderful things, especially now
that you've been given your angel wings.
We know not what the Lord has in His plan, so we will carry on
bravely and try to understand.
Your journey has been such an incredible one, but far too soon,
that journey was done.
Your reward in Heaven will be great I know, for your faith and
your courage you would always show.
Some days like these in life it seems the pleasures are few,
but we only have to recall what a pleasure it was to have a friend
like you!

McEACHERN, advocate for accessibility, dies at 53
Gord McEACHERN, a man who championed accessibility for the disabled
in Clearview Township and across Simcoe County, died last Thursday.
McEACHERN passed away at St. Joseph's Health Care Centre in Toronto.
He was 53.
For the last seven weeks
McEACHERN was in Owen Sound and Toronto
hospitals. He died of lung and kidney disease, family said Friday.
McEACHERN battled health problems for a number of years and often
used a scooter to get around when outside his home.
A funeral service was held at Jubilee Presbyterian Church, on
Main Street, and burial was at Stayner Union Cemetery.
McEACHERN, who for a number of years managed camera stores in
Barrie and later Collingwood, had to quit working about 12 years
ago because of health problems. After quitting work,
McEACHERN
used the change to help the disabled when possible.
In a sense, he said once during an interview with The Sun, his
work on disabled issues became a full-time job.
He had stints on both the Simcoe County Association for the Physically
Disabled and the Community Care Access Centre boards.
McEACHERN is survived by his wife, Cathie and 18-year-old son
Brandon, his mother Betty and twin brother Norm.

ALLEN,
Robert▼
Benedict▼
Born September 21, 1911 in Chatham, New Brunswick, died peacefully
in Mississauga on April 2, 2005, our beloved husband and father
Ben ALLEN, aged 93 and a half years.
Ben is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Catherine, nee
Shillito, and his two children, James and Laura, his adored grandchild
Richard Foy, and his son-in-law Errol Foy.
The son of Robert
ALLEN and Catherine Ann McEachern of Chatham
and latterly Saskatoon, Ben was the last surviving member of
a family of nine. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews
and twenty-three grand nieces and nephews with further descendents.
Ben's ancestors first came to Canada in 1772, and his family
had extensive connections to the Roman Catholic Church in the
Maritime Provinces of Canada and previously in Scotland. His
family were proud Jacobites. Two notable relatives were Bishop
Angus McEACHERN, the first Bishop of Charlottetown and a pioneer
of the Catholic Church in the Maritimes, and Monsignor Benedict
MURDOCH,
Ben's▼ godfather and for whom he was named, a famous
priest, author and Canadian Expeditionary Force Chaplain during
World War One.
Ben graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1936 with
the highest honours as a Bachelor of Science in Geology. He was
also a Professional Engineer. He worked as a geologist until
his gradual retirement in his seventies, latterly with Gulf Minerals
Canada. He loved the intellectual challenges posed by his chosen
profession.
Ben served his country and the cause of Freedom throughout World
War Two. As a Captain in the Canadian Army, he commanded soldiers
stationed in the fields of Kent during the Battle of Britain.
Later, he joined the Royal Navy and spent the latter half of
the war as a staff officer in the Admiralty.
Ben ALLEN was known for his kindness and fairness to all, for
his unassuming nature, for his natural personal dignity and grace,
and for his intellect and culture. He loved animals and children,
with a special love for all cats. He loved reading and listening
to music, particularly Mozart. He was fascinated by science and
by the complexities of military and geopolitical history. He
was an Anglophile in the best sense of the word.
Although he was by nature conservative, he firmly believed that
the favour of fortune or birth carried with it as many responsibilities
as it did privileges. He wholeheartedly despised those who used
power and position of any sort to advantage against the less
fortunate and believed in justice for all. He hated bullies.
We miss our dear Husband and Dad very much every day. We believe
he is in a better place but we will always carry him here in
our hearts.
Friends may attend the Requiem Mass held at St. Patrick's Church,
921 Flagship Drive in Mississauga (Tomken between Dundas and
Bloor) at 1pm on Wednesday April 6. The service will be followed
by interment at the Assumption Cemetery, 6933 Tomken Road in
Mississauga (East corner of Tomken and Derry Road). In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Oakville Humane Society
or to the Alzheimer Society of Peel. For further information
or to arrange delivery of flowers, please contact Lee Funeral

ALLEN,
Robert▲
Benedict▲
Born September 21, 1911 in Chatham, New Brunswick, died peacefully
in Mississauga on April 2, 2005, our beloved husband and father
Ben ALLEN, aged 93 and a half years. Ben is survived by his wife
of fifty years, Mary Catherine, née
SHILLITO, and his two children,
James and Laura, his adored grandchild Richard
FOY, and his son-in-law
Errol FOY.
The
son of Robert
ALLEN and Catherine Ann
McEACHERN
of Chatham and latterly Saskatoon, Ben was the last surviving
member of a family of nine. He is also survived by seven nieces
and nephews and twenty-three grand nieces and nephews with further
descendents. Ben's ancestors first came to Canada in 1772, and
his family had extensive connections to the Roman Catholic Church
in the Maritime Provinces of Canada and previously in Scotland.
His family were proud Jacobites. Two notable relatives were Bishop
Angus McEACHERN, the first Bishop of Charlottetown and a pioneer
of the Catholic church in the Maritimes, and Monsignor Benedict
MURDOCH,
Ben's▲ godfather and for whom he was named, a famous
priest, author and Canadian Expeditionary Force chaplain during
World War One. Ben graduated from the University of Saskatchewan
in 1936 with the highest honours as a Bachelor of Science in
Geology. He was also a Professional Engineer. He worked as a
geologist until his gradual retirement in his seventies, latterly
with Gulf Minerals Canada. He loved the intellectual challenges
posed by his chosen profession. Ben served his country and the
cause of Freedom throughout World War Two. As a Captain in the
Canadian Army, he commanded soldiers stationed in the fields
of Kent during the Battle of Britain. Later, he joined the Royal
Navy and spent the latter half of the war as a staff officer
in the Admiralty. Ben
ALLEN was known for his kindness and fairness
to all, for his unassuming nature, for his natural personal dignity
and grace, and for his intellect and culture. He loved animals
and children, with a special love for all cats. He loved reading
and listening to music, particularly Mozart. He was fascinated
by science and by the complexities of military and geopolitical
history. He was an Anglophile in the best sense of the word.
Patrick's
Church, 921 Flagship Drive in Mississauga (Tomken between Dundas
and Bloor) at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6. The service will
be followed by interment at the Assumption Cemetery, 6933 Tomken
Road in Mississauga (east corner of Tomken and Derry Road). In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakville Humane
Society or to the Alzheimer Society of Peel. For further information
or to arrange delivery of flowers, please contact Lee Funeral
Home 905-826-1148. We are most grateful for your caring.
