At the Elgin Manor, R.R.#1, Saint Thomas on Thursday, April 7, 2005. Mrs. Valetta A. (SQUANCE) BROWN, formerly of Saint Thomas, beloved wife of the late Dr. Edwin L. BROWN (2004,) in her 91st year. Dearly loved mother of C.J. “Kit” BROWN and his wife Yolande of Saint Thomas, Linda BROWN of St. Hubert, Quebec and Janet and her husband Dr. Ken DYMOCK of Oakville. Cherished grandmother of Anne THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON, Cathy BROWN, Steven RYAN, Simon DYMOCK, Laura DYMOCK, Karen O'NEIL and Kristen NESBITT. Loved greatgrandmother of Meghan, Caleigh, Ryan, Tyler, Bryten, Tryton and Alysha. Also survived by sister-in-law, Eileen SQUANCE of Brantford and several nieces and nephews. Sister of the late Cyril SQUANCE.
Born in Saint Thomas, July 5, 1914, the daughter of the late John and Clara (RANDALL) SQUANCE. Mrs. BROWN was a member of Centre St. Baptist Church, Saint Thomas, a member of the Ruth Fletcher Mission Circle of the church and formerly served on the renovation committee. A public memorial service will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas on Tuesday, April 12th at 1 p.m. There will be no public visitation prior to the day of service. Mrs. BROWN's cremated remains will be interred privately in Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to Centre St. Baptist Church gratefully acknowledged.

Surrounded by her loving family at Shaver Hospital on Thursday, June 9, 2005 at the age of 78. Beloved wife of 60 years to Gordon RUFFETT. Loving mother of Lynda Irene (David) HOLLAND, Heather Ann NYLAND and Robert Gordon RUFFETT. Granma will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Michael, Wendy (Keith), Russell (Stephanie), Bridget and Lisa (Ron) and by her great-grandchildren David, Damen and Kaylie. Dear sister of Vera DAVIS and sister-in-law of Winnifred WALTERS, Lloyd RUFFETT and Betty SQUIB. Predeceased by brothers Harvey and Gordon. MOFFATT, James Joseph (1924-2005)
Peacefully surrounded by his loving children, on October 16, 2005 at the age of 81, Jim passed away at the St. Catharines General Hospital following a very brief illness. Jim was predeceased by his mother Lillian BURK/BURKE (1975,) father John MOFFATT (1929) and brother Jack (2004). Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joan FLANNERY, his sister Betty DANIEL of Thornhill and brother Kenneth of Louisiana. He is survived by his much loved children, Maureen (Wayne SQUIBB,) Marilyn (Robert KRAM,) Gary (Lorri METCALFE) and Greg (Dr. Vivian LIU;) and his adored grandchildren, Cristin (Adam LAZIER,) Jessica, Elizabeth, Geoffrey, Jonathan, James, Jaclyn, Allison, Bryan, Jordan and Clare. Born in Toronto, graduating from commerce at Malvern, Jim joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942. Following his discharge, he moved to St. Catharines where he co-founded and presided as president of Niagara Welder's Supply until selling his interest to Union Carbide in 1991. During his career he served several terms as Chairman of the Canadian Welding Society and The Ontario Welder's Supply Association. Jim and his wife Joan were active golf and curling members of The St. Catharines Golf and Curling Club for over 55 years. He served several years on the Board of Directors, becoming an Honorary Member in 1999. At his Tribute it was stated: 'Jim is a mild-mannered man of integrity and gentlemanly qualities. Many of our older members have known him for decades and what we have written will not be news to them. However, we would bet that every one of them considers themselves to be one of his Friends and you can be sure that they carry that distinction with pride. That is the essence of Jim MOFFATT'. Jim was also an active member of the Niagara Falls Club, Rotary Club and Rodman Hall. Winifred Audrey McMURRAY of 140 Glendon Road, Stratford passed away suddenly at the Stratford General Hospital on Saturday, August 20, 2005, in her 82nd year. Born in West Nissouri Township, she was the daughter of the late Bristol and Elsie Phyllis MARKHAM) HOLDEN. Winifred was an active member of Saint John's United Church, Stratford, a long time member of the Conservative Party of Perth-Wellington and a member of the Brown's Women's Institute. She delivered meals for Meals on Wheels and Neighbourly Services and took Festival guests in her home for many years. Winifred was an enthusiastic golf, crib and euchre player.
She was predeceased by her first husband James Norman KINKADE and her second husband Harry Webber McMURRAY. Dear mother of Audrey MacINYTRE and husband Lach of Gananoque and Susan WHITLOCK and husand Peter of Cambridge. Dear step-mother of Paula McMurray HOARE and husband Wayne of Saint Marys. Passed away peacefully on March 20th, 2005 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was in her 91st year. Miriam was predeceased by her parents Edward Carey FOX and Dora Alexandrina FOX (nee McKAY,) her beloved husband Dr. Arthur H. SQUIRES and her sister Dora Eleanor BARRON. Mim leaves behind her three devoted sons Art, Alex (Kim) and Gordon (Laurie). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Alexandra (Carlo BOS,) Carey, Darrell and Edward. Mim inspired all around her with her grace, charm, zest for life and unfailing sense of humour and wit. She loved all of her Friends and so looked forward to her Friday afternoon bridge games. Mim's memories are like an encyclopedia of Canadian art history. An accomplished artist, Mim was a highly valued and talented member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour and the Heliconian Club (past president) for over 60 years. Some of Mim's artwork may be found today at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour On-Line Gallery and the Art Gallery of Peel in Brampton. Up until very recently, Mim thoroughly enjoyed her weekly painting sessions with her friend and fellow artist, Fred FLETCHER. The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Ida Coloma, 'Mum's' faithful companion and housekeeper for over 25 years, as well as for the dedicated, constant care and support given by Norma, Janet and Maria, and the regular visits from family friend, Dr. Jim SWAN. A celebration of Mim's life will be held on Thursday, March 24th at 4: 00 o'clock at the York Club, 135 St George Street (at Bloor). Suddenly at his home in Orangeville on Thursday, February 10, 2005, in his 69th year; beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth (Betty) SIMPSON; loved father of Wayne and his wife Lori of Shelburne, Charlie and his wife Liz of Grand Valley, Stan and his friend Theresa of Brampton and Laurie MacEWEN and her husband Mark of Orangeville; dear grandfather of Lindsay, Ben, Luke, Drew, Jacob, Rachel, Emma, Josh and Jason; also sadly missed by his sisters Beulah THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON, Eileen SQUIRRELL, Grace PETTY and Alice MOURNAHAN, his brother Murray BRYAN; and his many other relatives and Friends.
