Body found in motel
Free Press staff
An autopsy is to begin today on an 18-year-old woman whose body
was found Thursday in a Chatham motel room.
Chatham-Kent police identified the woman yesterday as Amy Margaret
RINK, 18, of Chatham.
An employee of the Kent Motel on Grand Avenue East found
RINK's
body just before 3 p.m. Thursday and called police, Const. Doug
Gutteridge said.
RINK was pronounced dead at the motel. Police hope the cause
of death will be revealed in an autopsy scheduled to begin today
in London.
Meanwhile, officers with the force's major crime unit are interviewing
motel staff, Friends and anyone else who knew
RINK.

Mom believes teen slain
By Patrick
MALONEY,
Free
Press
Reporter
The teenage girl found dead in a Chatham motel room last week
was the victim of foul play, her mother believes.
The tough life of Amy Margaret
RINK -- a developmentally delayed
18-year-old who loved animals and dreamt of becoming a Hollywood
actor -- came to a shocking end when a Kent Motel employee found
her body inside a room last Thursday.
Though Chatham-Kent police stress the autopsy isn't finished,
RINK's grieving mother, Rosemary
RINK, told The Free Press yesterday
she considers this much more than just a tragic death.
"I feel really angry at everything,"
RINK said. "There's really
an empty feeling inside me."
Chatham-Kent police Sgt. Jim
BISKIE said last night the probe
into the teen's death continues and no one has been arrested.
"Our investigation is nowhere near complete."
The grieving mother recounted her daughter's short, difficult
life.
She said local men may have forced her into prostitution. Those
same men have also beaten her daughter, who had the intellect
of a 12-year-old,
RINK said.
Parts of Amy's childhood were spent in women's shelters, Rosemary
RINK said. She was taken several times from her mother by child
welfare officials, but was always returned, and left school two
years ago.
But Rosemary -- and her daughter -- persevered through their
troubles.
"I'm not ashamed of it at all," she said. "Not ashamed of anything."
Last night, Rosemary attended an evening service at Praise Fellowship
church, where members offered their support and kind words.
Rosemary recounted how Amy aspired to finish high school and
later run off to California in pursuit of an acting career.
As if an indication of her gentle nature, Amy had an all-consuming
love of animals. She had a year-old dog, Sabrina, and young cats
Sassy, Simba and Scamp.
Her favourite, however, was Butterscotch -- the cat she had had
for 13 years.
And the mother-daughter relationship was strong, Rosemary
RINK
added.
"We were more like sisters, doing everything together," she said.
"She was well-loved.
"Amy's very, very trustworthy, she always seemed to help people
out. She believed in people."
The funeral is Wednesday morning at Saint Mary's Church in Blenheim.
