RYALL,
John
David, C.A.
Born September 16, 1937 in Montreal. Died February 3, 2005, North
York, after a four month illness. Retired Partner Grant Thornton
LLP
Longstanding active and contributing member of the Kiwanis Clubs
of Toronto and Montreal.
Only child of Edgar John (Jack) and Gertrude Irene (née
LOVETT)
who predeceased him by some years.
John was educated in Montreal and practiced there as a C.A. for
two decades before moving to Toronto in 1983. He was noted for
his technical expertise in assurance and a passion for working
with companies in the mines and minerals sector. He loved mentoring
junior members of the accounting profession and cultivating their
skills. In retirement he found a new professional niche in chairing
an audit committee for a public company and remained engrossed
in this work throughout his illness.
He gave back to the community as a Kiwanian, as Treasurer of
the Toronto Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club and as Treasurer of his
Condo Board where he is remembered for his gruffly delivered
wit, Friendship and sense of humour.
Leaves to mourn, his partner in life, Andrea
DEMCHUK and her
son Severn
MOZER who wish they'd had much more time with John.
He was a quick study as step-father, knowing how to make life
fun while providing much-appreciated guidance. For years to come,
episodes of Star Trek and
JAG will bring tears to our eyes, as
will CNN,
British
Broadcasting
Corporation world, takeout pizza
and trips to Radio Shack, Canadian Tire and Costco. Nobody could
talk things through like John. He brought meaning to life.
First cousin Marilyn
YOUNG and her grown daughter (and John's
much beloved Goddaughter) Lindsey
YOUNG of Leaside.
Former wife
Janice
Morrison
RIEHL of Houston, Texas and her husband
Bernard. And too numerous to list here, all of John's wonderful
Friends from his business and community work who took the time
to call, or drop by the hospital or the local Keg. Andrea is
especially grateful to all of you and to her Friends and family.
And John wanted all of the health professionals who provided
care these past months to know how very highly he valued their
work.

Man Dies in Crash
An Owen Sound man who failed to report for his scheduled work
shift was found deceased in his car northeast of Jackson late
in the afternoon of June 25.
Information thus far in the investigation indicates that David
RIELLY, 41 years, of Owen Sound, left a stag party west of Owen
Sound near Jackson alone at about 10 p.m. on June 24. When he
did not report for work at McArthur Tire Service in Owen Sound
there was concern about his whereabouts. Just before 5 p.m. an
acquaintance looking in the area located faint evidence of a
vehicle leaving the roadway where the A Line changes direction
90 degrees to the north to become Side Road 15 in the Keppel
area of Georgian Bluffs. Upon further investigation he located
Mr. RIELLY deceased in a green 1996 Mercury Marquis, which struck
trees after leaving the road. The car was down an embankment
and not visible from the roadway.
It is clear that the car was eastbound on the A Line prior to
leaving the roadway, however few other details, including the
exact time the crash occurred, are clear at this time. Constable
Chuck DICKEY of Grey County O.P.P. is the investigating officer.

with courage and determination, with Peter
DALY, her husband
of 47 years, at her side. A master story teller, she was a constant
source of wisdom, inspiration and hilarity. She was deeply loved
and will be sorely missed by her children John (Ingrid
RIETS,)
Patricia (Eric
GRAFSTEIN,)
Ann
(John
WEIR) and Moira (Claudio
TAPIA.)
She was a loving Oma to Matthew, Daniel and Benjamin
DALY-
GRAFSTEIN, Sarah
WEIR and Owen and Isabella
TAPIA. She also
leaves her sisters Pia
LOOGMAN and Kit
SMITH.
Riki grew up in a large, happy household in Holland, the fifth
of seven children. After Jan, her only brother, a medical student,
died in the Second World War, the family emigrated to Canada.
She married Peter in 1957 in Brantford, Ontario. Her life in
Canada was devoted to her family, keeping an immaculate household,
and caring for creatures large and small. She was also an avid
reader, keenly interested in world events and politics, and a
perpetually disappointed fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
But it was her personality that touched all who met her. Intelligent,
combative and never afraid to voice her opinion, she filled a
room and she filled our lives. We will miss her terribly. After
her long struggle, may she now rest in peace.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 15, 2005, at 11: 00
am at the Humphrey Funeral Home, A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview
Ave. in Toronto.
