of Conner. Friends are invited to Giffen-Mack "Scarborough" Funeral
Home and Cremation Centre, 4115 Lawrence Avenue East (just west
of Kingston Road), West Hill, 416-281-6800 for a memorial visitation
on Monday, January 17th from 10-11 a.m. Memorial service will
take place at 11 a.m. in the Chapel. A private family interment
will follow. Inlieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations
to the Osteoporosis Society or the Alzheimer Society.

Peacefully passed away, at Toronto East General Hospital on Monday,
January 31, 2005 in his 90th year. Born in Sydney Mines, Nova
Scotia March 26, 1915, he lived many years in Moncton, New Brunswick
and later Toronto. Dedicated and loving husband of Evelyn, loving
father of Jean and Linda. He will be sadly missed by grandchildren
Martin, Alexandra, Christopher, Kelly and Kevin and great-grandchild
Jenna. Dear brother of Eileen
ORPEN, fondly remembered by Colin,
Andrew and Steven, loved and respected father-in-law of Ken and
David. All have been blessed with his steadfast love and example.
During World War 2 Ned served in the Royal Canadian Air Force
as a pilot instructor, Squadron Leader, Base Commander and acting
Wing Commander. Ned worked for Eatons for 42 years beginning
his career in Moncton as Merchandise Control Manager for the
Maritimes, transferring to head Office in Toronto in 1971. Although
retiring in 1976 he maintained close ties with the many Friends
he made during this period. Throughout his life Ned was an active
participant in community life, a man of endless integrity and
generous spirit. He was a dedicated member of the Gyro Club for
47 years and involved in many charities. He was an accomplished
curler reaching the New Brunswick Provincial finals in 1952 and
an enthusiastic golfer being an active member of Moncton, Scarboro
and later Spring Lakes Golf Clubs. Ned had various hobbies, he
was an accomplished photographer, carpenter, a philatelist, and
he also made his own wine, which was in great demand by family
and Friends. Ned always had a positive outlook on life and could
be relied upon for an anecdote or quip to brighten the day. A
heartfelt thanks to Dr.
McMILLAN and the dedicated staff of Toronto
East General Hospital for their wonderful care and support. The
family will receive Friends at The Simple Alternative Funeral
Centre, 275 Lesmill Rd., North York (416-441-1580) on Friday,
February 4, 2005 from 6 o'clock. Service following in the Chapel
at 7 o'clock. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the
Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation would
be greatly appreciated.

On September 24, 2005, in his 82nd year, at Toronto East General
Hospital; the cause of death was lung cancer. Dear brother of
Jean, and dear brother-in-law of Noreen; step-father of Michael
and grandfather of Brianne; uncle to a large bunch of nieces
and nephews; great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nephews.
Predeceased by his darling wife Joyce, his brothers Cliff, Alan
and Gordon, his sister Ruth, and his sisters-in-law Betty and
Lil. Special friend of Shelagh, Donnie, Tommy and Leslie (his
other family); a friend to many and a shuffleboard competitor
to some of Branch 10 of the Royal Canadian Legion; good friend
to his bridge partners Ruth and Marg. A World War 2 Veteran (Royal
Canadian Artillery), he was a forty-year-plus member of the Toronto
Star composing room. This quiet, good natured and generous man
enjoyed his family, his Friends, his time in the army, his work,
his books, his bridge, his pets, the cottage, the L.A. Dodgers,
the National Football League, and his beer. Special thanks to
the Toronto East General Hospital Emergency, H7, A3, and Palliative
Care Units, the latter a great supporting cast for the last act.
A simple service will be held at 3: 30 p.m. on Tuesday, September
27 at the Heritage Funeral Centre, 50 Overlea Blvd., Toronto
(416-423-1000); visitation for one hour prior, at 2: 30 p.m. If
desired, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion,
Todmorden Branch 10, 1083 Pape Ave., Toronto, M4K 3W7, or to
a charity of choice.
